Watching him on BookTV on CSPAN 2. And just like there are those evangelicals that Love the early work of AW Tozier but don't much care for his later stuff. I a Christian Orthodox will stick to Frank Schaeffers early works and don't much care for his current works.
It's my experience that when it comes to religion and conversion you can't really change people's minds in one single debate by force of argument alone, the best you can do is present your case as well as you can.
This is because conversion is such a personal and intimate journey for every individual, all you can do is sow the seed.
If someone would have told me I would become a Christian back when I was an atheist I would have laughed in his face.
@dlsbucur I'd be very much interested in hearing the story of how you ultimately became a Christian. Would you mind sharing it? You could send me a PM if you like.
I agree that he goes a bit far with the jokes and that's a flaw in his style of preaching/lecturing.
But his arguments are valid and his critique of protestantism is very accurate.
If you wish to refute any of his arguments Mr Dawson you're welcome to try, but making a blanket statement about "questionable statements" and then making an appeal to age (lol) is just absurd.
To your credit at least you're watching this, which is more than most protestants will ever do.
@dlsbucur The comment about age came as a reply when the site owner mentioned it I should have said if age matters between us I would have won hands down
@dlsbucur You assume too much sir. I won't debate here, but like anyone else I am entitled to my opinion just as you are. I still would not want him to represent any denomination that I would belong to.
Perhaps, for my part when he is tired of Orthodoxy, you will hear the same about you all.I think it would be good to check out other videos and statments he has made in the past, say before 2010 on youtube. There are some questionable statements from him
lumping all other christians in the same boat just sweeping generalizations about " everybody else" I have lived much more than half of my life as a protestant , and much older than he. Reading what Jesus says about His church gives me pause.
@irondawson We do not attempt to control what people believe in every facet of their life. He is Orthodox because he believes in Orthodox doctrine. Nothing states you have to be a conservative republican to be a Christian.
Frankie is an interesting speaker.Hyperbole is his middle name and he grew up in Hyperbole.I find it shameful to make jokes and to denegrate other denominational forms of Christianity.
He gets by because he is a good speaker. He has injected some grains of truth which makes his criticism of the other denominations so viable.I would not want him to speak for my denomination even if Orthodoxy is" right on".
@irondawson He's making jokes because he has lived more than half his life in Protestantism and knows it like the back of his hand. He has seen it all.
Jesus was The Truth, yet He also said some words which appeared very scandalous. It is sort of the same here; as long as one is doing the will of God, it is okay to speak out and be very bold. God understands, just as Jesus understood when he gave warnings about Hellfire and Gehenna. He was scandalous, but b/c He did God's will, he was justified
@irondawson This is a response typical of someone who is really reaching for a reason NOT to convert to Orthodoxy. Truth is truth. Believe in what Christianity is not what you want it to be.
