  • One question :) I really really love blues, it's nothing wrong if i play this licks in a bluesy way sound right? Of course over the right chords and everything like that. By the way, you rock but... you already know that :D

  • He is more than a "really good teacher." He is the best of the best!

  • I just got a bit confused in the first lick... Sometimes you put in the C# note (11th fret on the D string), and other times you leave it out.

  • how come when that black guy plays every one says somthing racist but nooo when the white guy plays its all okay isnt it pisses me off

  • What a fuxing badass lesson!

  • Hi

  • @FadlanEffendiMusic The numbers are the notes of the scale, so in key of B: 1 is B, 2 is C, 3 is D etc. b means flat- a semitone lower than the note mentioned.

  • still, marty schwartz is better ;)

  • nice dude your a great teacher

  • must i have some pedal for this?

  • You're the MAN

  • hey David, I hv been playing guitar for over 2 years now.......... I have been using a HSS config strat....... I play blues rock, progressive rock, pink floyd, iron maiden, megadeth and similar sounding bands....... I hv tried a lot of guitars which can cover such a wide variety of genres...........

I had shortlisted PRS tremonti becoz of its tonal variety but I prefer a strat feel over other guitars......... shall i replace my neck pickup with hot-rod and continue with same guitar or buy prs??

  • Is there a tutorial video for the part 10:07 to 10:10?

I realy want to learn that! :)

  • This dude is my favorite guitarist out of the lot :) \m/

  • Im pretty sure its a carvin model

  • @brostomper your sure whats a carvin? it sure isnt the guitar hes useing in this video!!

  • ei mr david ive been watchimg your lesson 4 a long tym and i want to know what is really the purpose of the modes i cant apply it,

  • david rocks

  • Sounds like a toy guitar for 9,99$ from woolworth!

What you try to teach here, knows every kid who plays guitar!

  • u just opened my eyes and ears from this video, thanks honestly. u truly showed ur talent on this video.

  • MOTHERFUCKER! ( In a good way )

  • dude u r gr8....rockon!!!

  • you re great thanks!!

  • Great example of an extensive knowledge of theory but now concept of tone. All the talent in the world wont make people want to listen to you if you can start off with a good sound

  • @jamamigo thank you!

  • why wont it let me favorite this?

  • Hey guys. Go get the JAM amigo iPhone app for learning/practicing solos and improvisation, it's pretty cool. Just search for "jam amigo" on iTunes/AppStore to get it, and check my youtube channel. Cheers!

  • I have seen many videos but you are by far the best, explaining it all in time, and right as it should be done....no unneeded theory crap, just what we actualy need and use, exact problem and how to shoot it! thanks for help and attidude towards music!

  • What a mess.

  • I like ur quote. "Dont learn the lick, learn FROM the lick." You are a GREAT instructor and u should make more...do u have one on tap fingering?

  • omg so awesome man i subbed rated and commented so awesome thats sick u really helped thanks so much

  • luke boss: u rock,eternally indebted

  • Awfall Tone

  • are the inlays supposed to be that color or are they just dirty

  • @dunokuba did you ever see a guitar in real life? those are mother of pearl inlays.

but the fretboard is dirty as hell

  • lol, prs uses pearl inlays, its actually clean but the way the light reflects off of them makes them look dirty

  • eh prs hmmp ibanez is the lead shit. i once used an ibanez to save village from a pack of man eating wolves. after doing so a beautiful blonde swed took me to her room and we started a family who later became the countries fiercests vikings. my friend used a prs. though it was a good guitar the wolves raped him before he was eaten alive

  • for one, this guy is a really good teacher, i allways learn something new, Second hes a verry nice and friendly person, damn if the world would have more people like him in every domain of activity

  • YOu know, when i first watched this i thought it would be extremely hard, but the way he taught it made it easy for me. This was a great lesson.

  • very badass first lick

  • wow...a guitar!..........

  • this guy is amazing!

  • Great licks but a veryyyyy bad sound

  • a question for the author of the video or for somebody to read.

How is equalizes the amplifier to sound so like the video?

    the treble, bass ...

  • sounds very Satriani like.

  • omg speechless

  • hey dave, really helpful lesson as always, can you tell me what settings you were using on your amp? really nice sound to be honest :)

  • Start of the 3rd lick sounds a bit Daft Punk... ha ha Strange

  • what guitar is that?

  • looks like a PRS guitar, a VERY expensive kind a guitar, alot of either old players use or rythem guitarists use

  • rhythm lol

  • you full of crap, alot of metal bands use them, they re getting more populr then Gibsons, it a prs

  • yeah i know its a prs dip shit, i know alot of metal bands use them also, but i see more old players or rythem guitarists use them too

  • really, becuase, i thnk dont seem like you do, and a lot of lead guitarists, as my self, use them, you said alot of old or rythm guitarists use them, meaning, that you have to be a old geaser or a rhythm guitarist to use them, more lead guitarists use them, most rhtyhm guitarists use gibson les pauls or fender strats, PRS guitarss aer usually lead, and i love my PRS, and i play lead, and i aint old,, and watch your mouth, you need to wash it out with soap, ya ma ever tell its not nice to cuss?

  • didnt your ma ever teach you proper english and aint aint a word?

  • she tried, and my teachers did try, but they failed, and if it aint a word why are you using it, hypocrite? idk bout you dude, lol jk no i know wat ya mean but i aint good at english but it dont effect me guitar playing or anyting so i dont care

  • @disciplefreak100 hmmmm ok obviously you've never seen Yngwie Malmsteen on a strat or Zakk Wylde on a Les Paul... its all preference to sound and playability.

  • @disciplefreak100 Fucking hell, go back to school! You're obviously a Londoner like me, and your use of language is horrendous. Really man! I know people who write English as a 3rd language better than you, and it's your 1st.

Really, I'm not saying this to be nasty, it's for your own good. You come across as completely thick, even though it may not be the case.

Good on you for being serious at guitar though.

  • PRS

  • this dude rocks seriously... a Great teacher

some ppl make good players but not good teachers u know?

  • this guy is just awesome, i love his lessons..

  • nice, that's what i need

  • this guy shreds

  • Everytime that I watch this guy's videos I learn something new. He's really helpful!

  • nice

  • what amp is he using?

  • line 6 i think

  • Thanks mate

  • David Taûb, you are a guitar GOD! keep making videos like these, Ive learned so much. Do the world a favor and keep making videos.

  • Thanks a lot for this video! Thrilled to see more rock/metal from NLG!

  • Awesome lesson, Love the idea of you soloing and subtitling what your playing, that really helped me!

  • i cnt stop looking at the add :)

  • Nice lesson and very great player

  • wow

  • it's like to take a lesson from Dethklok... vey usefull! xD but funny 'cuz the voice and the style just reminds me their guitarrist

  • its a PRS look at the headstock.

  • You can see it's a PRS on the whole bodyshape..

  • i had a go on one of them prs guitars the other day there awsome

  • Hi I really want a les paul, and was wandering if i should wait, and get a gibson, or just get an epiphone.

  • if u dont have 2000 dollars just get the epihpone its almost the exact same

  • gibsons are not 1200 dollars better than the high end epiphone, yes they are better, but its not worth saving.

  • dave's face is awesome while he plays...its like an im cool and you know it face.

    rock on

  • I really like that this lesson is clearly meant for more advanced players, it always bugs me a little when you guys take a long time in explaining what notes your playing, what an interval is, and what the notes are, etc. Here it's just "this is this, and this is that", which I appreciate. Thanks for laying it down, Dave, great licks!

  • Interesting choice of tone for hotrodded licks-sounds very classic rock

  • G&L

  • It looks like a PRS Custom 24.. but; no bird inlays... maybe an SE instead of the US made model?

  • i think SE

  • SE has flat top, doh...

  • Hi the guitar I use in this lesson is my mid 1990s Paul Reed Smith Classic Electric or CE - keep on rocking!

    take care

    DT

  • @rockongoodpeople You have an incredible guitar!

  • its a CE Custom

  • What kinda guitar is that?

  • i believe thats a PRS. not sure of the exact model

  • Your guitar sounds awesome, Dave. hot with just enough top end, really brings out the arpeggios

  • Ive learned so much stuff from you guys thank you so fucking much

  • I see you've played guitar before,nice lesson.

  • If *I* had a 24-fret PRS, I could play like David, too ..... (Hahohohoahahhaha :-)

  • Damn David, I musta missed the part where you played it slow lol.........

  • around 145 it sounds like the scale or whatever used in one by metallica

  • Amazing, in the 10 months I haven't taken lessons this was a great alternative.

  • this is great keep posting intermediet/ advanced lessons please

  • u guys rock

  • Damn David, that was impressive.

  • WHERE'S MARTY

  • guitarjamzdotcom

  • Hey David,

Another great tutorial. Exactly the stuff we need! Awesome playing towards the end as usual.

It makes me laugh, the people who say, "Yeah, it's not that great...", I don't see any videos of them showing their 'incredible' guitar skills. They should show some respect and appreciate the effort that NLG go to for us with these vids! I WISH I could play some of those riffs like David!

  • this is great post more lessons like this

  • wow you basterd so good

  • dude that some Poison Was The Cure arpeggios from Megadeth i thot i recognised it

  • dave can you help me please be as good as you im 15 and I want to be as ggood as you

  • it's very simple my friend...KEEP PRACTICING

I'm 16 and I started playing guitar 3 years ago...

I play everyday and I get better and better with the time

Trust me, practice and time are everything:D

  • yup. practice is what makes it.

  • relax man... i am 17 this year, and have been playing for 1 year ++, just keep practicing and then slowly, you will get it... I haven't tried these licks, but I will try them when I have the time :]

  • If you wanna get good at guitar all you need to do is practice every day, or sell your sould either one workds great. (Don't acctually sell your soul lol XD)

  • I practice every day ive been playing for only half of a year and I want to learn scales but i cant find any books

  • why not try online tabs?

  • use the internet..

  • is that will billy's guitar?

  • nope, it's his guitar

  • what? you think is his guitar that makes him good? you are stupid lol

  • some people... all they have to say is... "bad tone"?

    Good vid good tips! thx

  • Damn! and I can barely hold a pick!!

  • I don't even use one....

  • Dave is ROCKIN !!! :D

blues lick from 10:05 blew me away :)

  • glad to see they're finally getting the super advanced stuff back on

  • Thanks Dave... Thanks Dave....Thanks Dave...did i say thank you Dave? No i didnt...Thank you Dave LOL. - Thomas

  • damn this guys better than i thought haha, but damn the arpageiois are pretty tricky to nail down!!

  • thats a CE 24 man...but i prefer a CU24...so but it's a PRS...

  • Watching him play those licks is a real pleasure :D

  • wow thats amazing thanks!

  • wow david THREW IT DOWN!! havent seen this in awhile!

  • Cool lesson, but im getting tired of this same PRS guitar all the time latly.

  • It's an amazing guitar! but i know what you mean

  • This stuff sounded sooo hard and i didnt know if i should try it yet or not but i watched the video and he breaks it down sooo good that it was really easy for me to learn it

it learned it pretty quick too

    Thanks!

  • is that the new prs guitar

  • Holy shit, Dave's playing here was just... Outstanding. That's some of the best soloing I've heard.

  • That was´not really that great. It was good but nothing where it is worth to say that it is outstanding.

  • best lesson of late

  • what are licks?

  • any progression of notes played in a row, a section of a solo for instance is a lick

  • oh, thanks !!

  • ive watched next level from the beginning almost now im getting a stratocaster thats been a long time

  • to be able to know the root note is you know what key of the song >>

  • Thank you!!!

  • PRS CE 24 w/ the bolt on maple neck.

  • This guy is a great teacher. Very good at getting the point across. Great player. Thanks for the lesson.

  • I'm glad to see more advanced lessons, keep em' coming! :)

  • Most of the time it's based upon the root note of the lick.

  • Sorry to ask this, but how do you tell the root note? I was told that it was the lowest note played (like A is higher than C) or something like that, but I don't know if that was a credible source. I'm so ignorant in this subject.

  • learn your notes on the fret board...

  • You should first learn the pentatonic scales because that is the base of the seven modes (ionian, frigian, dorian...) Then learn the minor scales. By time you will recognize the pattern and will be able to figure out exactly in what key the lick is. If you are new to scales then practise them every day and connect them together once you know them. This takes time, hard practise and dedication.

  • where could I LEARN SCALES?

  • go to chordbook (.) com you would find most of the major minor pentatonics and other scales

  • from books
