  • so its just a minnow trap but lower so they can climb in and with bigger holes

  • Cable ties !! *smacks head* simple but genius !! great video

  • Made one using a nylon soft mesh, flexable but catched the same and works.

Used box tape on either end to stiffen a bit "the waterproof stuff" plubers use

you can really use ANYTHING, so long as the end result looks like this.

  • Do you cook your bacon or do you put the bacon in your trap raw

  • skip to 3:00 to start building

  • Sweet. I built a trap up this morning based on your design. I changed a few things around, but it's pretty much the same. Thanks for the walk through! Now I just gotta go throw it in the water...

  • i live in cali and i have a creek down my canyon but its not really mine but yeah any way i just started to catch em and i didnt have this stuff and wanted to see if it was fun and hell yeah it was so wat i did first before the traps i made is i caught the hahahah with a buckit but yeah and then i moved to a net and that worked for me best till i get these type of traps but then i just made it out of 2 liter bottle and i made like 8 and the next day i had 8

  • I live in Washington too. At gatherings our parents used to send into the lake with a cloth sack and we would dive for them. Damn good.

  • Thanks for this video, I just got into looking for crawdads so I'm going to have to make one of these traps and check it out for myself.

  • how come every time i use this i always get a tun of minos

  • what kind of bait

  • Do not hurt them. They are harmless creters.I am studing crayfish and we pick them up and its so awsome and cool

  • @MrSPS6786 pussi

  • @MrSPS6786 I wouldn't hurt 'em, just eat 'em! They're good eatin'!

  • @iamnotdikkie hell ya

  • @MrSPS6786 These harmless little sweeties will take a chunk out of your finger if they are mature enough.

  • @shawnferd When I was little I would blindly reach my hand up under rocks in ditches to catch little ones, To my surprise one the size of a baby lobster grabbed a hold of my finger and scared the hell of of me, but it didn't even break skin. Now a blue crab on the other hand.... I've had the tip of my finger sliced in half by one.

  • @shawnferd sweeties really

  • @shawnferd sweeties really i mean like good eats

  • @MrSPS6786 i live in washington and there is one variety of native crawfish but theyre getting killed of by other invasive non native species, because theyre cannabilistic and they move in on the food source, so more people need to fish em. NO ANIMAL is harmless if left unchecked all animals will over run an ecosystem, humans are a good example but there are many others, i will assume that your opinion is based on the fact that you have one in your classroom at school, but its not that simple

  • great video...can you make a crab trap....

  • i made one a year ago and had the get stitches on my hand cause i sliped when putting the thing in... lol

  • how do they not get out my crayfish usually climb out of my tank

  • i built a couple of these traps not to sure if they would work. threw one in overnight and caught 20 crayfish overnight.a great way to catch some bait for catching those lunkers at the big lake.

  • i have just recently discovered there are mudbugs in a local lake and stream. i have been looking at traps and refused to pay the ransom for the commercial ones available. I LOVE YOUR TRAP!!! i love do it yourself anyway and i love the simple ideas that are flashes of brilliance. i had come up with a design that wasn't as simple but i kept having a problem trying to figure out how to do a trapdoor catch and a baitbox. thank you for the wonderfully simple, idiot proof design.

  • I don't exactly get it. If there are entry holes on each side, can't the crawfish just come out? Or if you had bait wouldn't they stay in?

  • @0XSpartaX0 the entry holes ane inverted, and when the craws go through the cone they fall like 3 inches and they cant get back up :D.

  • Best video I've seen on how to make one, thanks!

  • does anybody know where i can get some 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch black mesh. i heard mesh makes a better funnel so i figured id give it a try.

  • hog tie's work far better than zip ties

  • thanks for sharing, I'm gonna start building my own traps in stead of buying them.

  • wow man

    this vid is great

    it really helped me out!

    5/5

    -Kevin

    p.s.

    mind checking out my vids???

  • They're easy to cook to!

Let Them Starve for 24 hours (For the guts to get empty) then (with their head first) put them in the boiling water!

    Sorry For Ma' Bad English

  • do you just keep em in a large water bucket for a day before you cook em

  • @WVliberty You can but I have had better luck with pulling the ceter top scale off of their tail fin and pulling the vein out of their body. Then I cook them right away.

  • @PivotSweden You dont have to let them sit just put a fuck load of salt on them and let them sit in the salt and some water for 15 min then hose them off

  • Does anyone know the Laws an regulations on crawfish in California?

  • @BensGeckos

Go to the Ca. Fish and Game website and download the PDF file for the Freshwater Sportfishing Regulations Booklet. Go to section 5.35 and that should answer your questions. Basically the regulations are pretty liberal and best of all, there's no limit which is great because they sure are tasty.

  • nice series, try using vinyl coated hardware cloth for the funnels (or spray 'em yourself) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • where do you get vinyl for spraying?

  • I built 4 traps following your instuctions. Mine are not nearly a as neat as yours but do the job just fine. The last one I build I added 50% to the diameter. I think I will build my new ones that way. I had over 50 crawdads in my trap overnight. The smaller traps worked just fine too. I too found the homemade traps far outproduced my one store bought trap. Thanks for the videos. They were great.

  • So far I've made eight traps based on this design with a few modifications. I estimate the cost to build each trap at about $6.00 or so in materials. Compared to two different commercially made traps I've bought, this design consistently produces better results, at least in the creek I fish from. And if that isn't enough....they're actually fun to make.

  • i have my own pond so i can catch them and sell them as bait or keep them in my or one of my many aquariums

  • as bait ???? just boil them and eat them

  • yea bait you catch big fish with crayfish in all my crayfishing days ive never ate one

  • nice trap thanks for the detailed info on how to buid one of these. i have made three of them and they work very good, thanks
