The officiating in this junior hockey game was pathetic from the start. The fact that they didnt call anything against the blantant charge at the Canadian goalie after a goal was scored as well as numerous other bad calls made that sucker punch that much funnier. Plain and simple, Connolly had enough and was looking for a penalty. The fact that they didnt call it with the ref standing in plain view just proves how badly they need to bring in some good NHL refs in and stop this euro ref nonsense.
Apparently the referee didn't call it because Apalkov embellished his injury by diving and holding his face. He could have given them both a penalty, or neither one. Personally, I see little embellishment.

Yeah, they should have called that. I find it hilarious they didn't, this play is what got Canada going I think.
Russia did get away with quite a few things as well though so, maybe the refs were just making up for it? :P
