Didn't realize back in the 60's & 70's how much good music we had until the beginning of the 80's til now. I guess that saying is true, "you never miss your water til your well runs dry" and the well is completely dry and dead....how sad!!!
I can't understand why this group wasn't as famous as the Platters and other doo-wop groups. At least, thanks to YouTube, young ppl are learning about them. Elisabeth
Well Clarence Burke Jr. and Hopefully some other original members will be part of the 5th Annual Classic R&B Weekend in The Poconos (Pa.) along with The Dramatics, Atlantic Starr, Blue Magic, Slave, and D-Train for the big concert portion on Saturday November 12, 2011. On friday there is a salute to Black Ivory and Cliff Perkins of Soul generation. A full weekend of adult entertainment!
@jodya077 Yes they were. They too like the jacksons, were a family group, with a siter included and recorded on one of the only historically black owned record labels, The windy City label, owned by the late Curtis Mayfield.
teh jackson 5 and micheal were great in their time as were the five stairsteps. everyone has there time on this earth. both groups share a special place in my heart
I thing that seperate the Stairsteps from the Jacksons is the fact that the Stairsteps were writing their own songs while being produced by Curtis Mayfield. They family was tight thanks to Papa Burke who was a Chicago Detective.
"You Waited Too Long," charted number 16 in the Billboard R&B chart in spring of 1966.
The Chicago group was dubbed 'First Family of Soul' . Invisible Man's Band. Featured on this self-titled debut, released in 1980 by Island Records, was the heavily discofied hit, "All Night Thing,"
1982's Changes, yielded his biggest solo hit, "Risin' to the Top," which peaked at number 63 R&B in late summer 1982. "Risin' to the Top" has been sampled by Doug E. Fresh ("Keep Risin' to the Top"),
I did, but then there was competition between those two groups. but any how the jackson 5 bust out. the world fell in love and so this I...and you know the rest of the story.
TAKE ME BACK! THE BEST YEARS OF MY LIFE!

I am all over this music. Why were they not more main stream? Love them and they went unnoticed even with Curtis promoting? Why did we wait so long?
