I've always wanted to watch how maple syrup is made. Best taste in the world !!! Nothing better than some vanilla ice cream and some maple syrup poured over top...MMM MMM !! I even add it to my Frosted Mini Wheats.
Ahhh the sweet smell of Spring in New England! Great to see the Yardleys keepin' it real! Love this clip... Kills me to have my pans sitting idle this season.
I really miss this. When I was a teenager I sugared with three old timers. We put out 1,200 to 1,400 taps on pipe line each year. If you get a chance, make instant coffee from the from the front pan.
we do maple syrup alwell we have just about 800 taps. this year we are doing a vacume system. Last year we just had it all on gravidy. We use a 3x10 evaporator. Ill be posting a documantary within the next month or 2 that my son will be making in his video production class. along with other how to videos around the farm. and of course some other random fun videos as well keep a look out. My son has been doing video for the past 3 years hes a senior in highschool now wok he does very good. :)
Wher are you located> I am in Massachusetts and we have large barrel evaporattor with a 2.75 x 3.75 pan that we made and we do about 100 taps of drop line and 5 tap runs into trashcans and 5gallon pails. What kind of pickup are you collecting with.
Fantastic video. My wife's family also makes maple syrup. Check out my video. Their operation is not as sophisticated but they do have a very good system and the maple syrup and candy is great. Pete started using jugs like yours. Previously he used cannning jars and washed mayo, pickle, etc jars. We do gather sap in the mud some years and some years snow is on the ground. We are from north east Wisconsin, where are you?
Really, REALLY interesting video — it's really much better, and much more informative than those silly films we used to watch in school about "How maple syrup is made". After you've had real maple syrup, you'll never want fake syrup again.

Nice! A REAL wood-fired evaporator - the only way to do it. Thanks for sharing!

how fantastic! but is the tapping time for each tree, limited? Do the trees ever die because they are tapped to much? Do they dehydrate?
