Awesome, just totally awesome. But was it really live? I shouldn't doubt...I have learned to have huge respect 4 the Bangles. But no drummer?? Pre recorded? The rest surely seems 2 be live. Michael is my favorite too, But they all get my respect as musicians...musicians who love 2 have fun on stage, & really deliver 2 the audience. Oh, and hot!
wish i attended this concert.love the big hair, great live video but looks better when i change my tv to 4:3 from wide screen. the fake wide screen stretching makes the band look husky.
Wow... I have been looking for this video for years since some random guy in college walked up to me on campus and said he saw me on MTV dancing on a balcony. Just watched it for the first time and there I was in frame 2:41 dancing in a white shirt with my hands over my head. Guess that uses up 3-4 seconds of my 15 minutes! Thanks so much for posting this! Bryan
@sarcee1960 The color must be off. It's actually a red dress and some fan stole it after one of their shows. Too bad, they sometimes auction their clothes off for charity and I bet that dress would've raised a nice little bit.
Oh man, those WERE the days!! Great music, FUN concerts, and a FINE lookin bassist. Those were times when people went to concerts to have fun, dance and enjoy the great music. Nowadays, well, ya couldnt get me into a concert. Toooo dangerous. People my age have our memories of good times and good music, and, well, that is good enough for us. Thanks girls..Michael, Debbie and Vicki. Oh yeah, you too Poodle Hoffs.
Wanna See Something really Cool? Buy a a copy of The All-Nighter,Starring Susannah Hoffs of The Bangles, and Deedee Pfeiffer,Michelles sister, who was in Grease 2!!!
I can remember driving around in my '65 malibu SS, in high school, late at nite, listening to these girls rock it. I always by myself, for fear of being embarassed by me jamming out to them. Male ego thing, lol. I've always thought these were the perfect looking women back then, and I'm still in love with Suzanna, and Miki to this day!
This is what it was like when ppl had fun on concerts and musician just had fun and enjoy the music. I love those women. :) Btw, can anyone tell me names of the women that sing 2nd and 3rd verse? Ty. :)
Saw this show in San Diego, this is the Different Light tour 3 nights in a row 2 @ the sports arena & 1 @ SDSU which was the best of the 3 cuz it was a real small venue but the brought all the sound gear from the big show and just kicked our asses. I Love this band and I'm so happy to say I had a chance to see all 4 of them together in their prime as a group... 3 real special nights in my life I'm 52 now and seeing this show again here on You Tube is fantastic Thanx. PretzelFarmer...!!!
@zackgreer in answer to your question there was a man in the background off to the right on synthesizer and the part where you think it sounds like a whistle nope it is the man in the background providing that. Kind of funny how the Bangles have managed to get away with that through the decades. Canned drumming suuucks. They should have borrowed Neil Pert from Rush.
@zackgreer speaking of the Go-Go's someone did an extended cut of Our Lips Are Sealed. However I do like to go a little back in time to the days of the Runaways and then fast forward to a little L7 myself. Don't listen to much of the new material Joan Jett puts out however did pick up Lita Ford's latest. Somewhat like the Donnas as well. Regardless of the drumming SNAFU on walk like an egyptian, I still like the Bangles and only many years later I discover no drummer on Walk Like an Egyptian:)
I only saw them perform in a small club setting (probably in 1985), and missed the dynamics of their larger concert shows. They're obviously having a blast performing to this quite responsive crowd!
Debbi's not playing on this song is a mixed blessing. She may not be playing, but it got her out from behind her kit so we can see what a attractive, statuesque beauty she is!
I don"t know HOW PretzelFarmer got all these videos he has posted of the Bangles from Pittsburgh Pa. but they are the BEST on the wed !! What a great performance by all the Girls!!
Too bad I was still in diapers in 86 as a toddler to see these hot girls performing. These women turn me on that they rocked and I have a guitar today but don't play like they do. Just a beginner. Learning chords. Love rock. There all beautiful and hot!
Notice the look on Michael face when some man threw his shirt and it hit her microphone! Thank god for Pittsburgh! If not yoiu wouln't see this video!!
FYI, in the original song recording, Debbi Peterson was replaced at drums by a contract musician, as their producer David Kahne did not think Debbi was capable of getting the drums right for this song. And so in the original video for "Walk Like an Egyptian", and in all of their live performances, Debbi does not do drums on this song. There is instead always a drum track playing in the background, probably a drum machine or a recording.
@rjpancerniCAUSA Yes, i am very serious. Do a Google search and read up on the history of the Bangles and their producer, David Kahne. Debbi Peterson was forever bitter about this episode, which is why she never does the drums in live shows of this song. Apparently this has become increasingly common practice for a lot of studio recordings of rock bands, to replace the original band members with much more skilled contract players (lots of them in the LA area!) for the recording.
@rjpancerniCAUSA Actually, the Beatles first album is all Ringo. It's only the original single version of Love Me Do that features a session drummer.
@vrmgi To be precise, she wasn't replaced by a contract musician on this song but by worse...a drum machine!! She said it herself on VH1 behind the music. It is true however that all members of the band have been overdubbed by session musicians for the second album with the exception of Michael Steele on bass.
Originally, Walk like an Egyptian was supposed to be sing solely by Debbi but Kahne didn't like her voice so he removed her from the song entirely.
@wendifur Okay, so when did the recording sound like this? Yes they are using a drum machine, but the keyboards, guitars, tamborine, and voices are all live. Please listen and look for the differences before commenting.
PretzelFarmer--Wow, many thanks for posting this whole concert. For me, tnis is who the bangles will always be - not Susanna Hoffs in my room trying on all my clothes (not that there's anything wrong with that), but a talented, tight, take-no-prisoners rock band that performs with great energy and joy and verve. Oh, and sex, of course. Verve and sex.
Awesome, just totally awesome. But was it really live? I shouldn't doubt...I have learned to have huge respect 4 the Bangles. But no drummer?? Pre recorded? The rest surely seems 2 be live.
