This is the first video I'm watching of Videomaker's, looking forward to other, but just a suggestion- Show the effect you're explaining, at the beginning of the video, so people can see what effect you're talking about!
Just use Greenscreen and it will be looking alot better. This look really bad, tbh, not wanting to insult you who made it, but just shooting the background then greenscreening yourself onto the place will look ALOT better.
How to do this effect that I've seen used in many films, where the foreground seems to be rushing forward while the background recedes further into the distance/horizon?
Usually referred to as a Zolly Shot, this technique is surprisingly easy to do (but takes some practice to master). Check out our video "Handheld Video Camera Shooting Tips" for an explanation on how to achieve it. Cheers.
Thanks! This was something, I was curious about for a long time. But since I didn't even know what the effect was called, I couldn't search for more information about it on the net. Your explanation helps a lot.
@squ34ky It's called a contrazoom. All you need to do is film far away from the subject, but really zoomed in, mount your camera on some form of wheels, move the camera towards your subject and zoom out on your camera at the same time. Have a look at this - watch?v=fr2h9iCDevs
@squ34ky You have to use a dolly, steadicam, or a really steady hand.
Move the dolly or go in closer start out zoomed in on the subject, then as you move in closer zoom out and it will create the illusion, do a few times to get it right.
@squ34ky lol, you got a nice answer fro those guys didn't you? :P
Basically you have to move your camera in two ways, physically and through the lens. So whilst moving your camera forward, you need to change from a long zoom to a wide angle in one swift motion. It's very easy to do, but takes practice. Effect will work best if you use rails.
Thank you very very very very very ++ much for your videos. i'm a video maker in my beginings and your tips are so great, they will help me in my video making career. God Bless you.
Yea this could easily done with a green screen but for those who don't have it... Well this is the way! I can't believe i didn't think of this! It's so simple!!! Thanks dude.
good idea, unless you have dialog...simple concept...like jumping down from an elevated plane, play it backwards, and it seems like a leap up....same concept...... for beginners
is it possible to change the background of a video? exp, i shoot a video in my messed up room,so i wanted to change the background of my video to some other color. please help
I have seen some wild videos where people catch footballs being thrown from a person behind them.. they dont even turn to catch the ball! Just put up a hand and BANG! they have it? Any idea how this is edited?
this seems easy. i wouldve put the character in front of a green screen, shot the footage of the cars moving, then combined the shots. then i wouilve sped up the moving cars. but this is a good way too!
yeah or you could just do the shot in normal motion exactly where he was standing, then make a garbage matte around just him, then speed up the background only
It depends on the effect you're going for. Check out the movie "Accepted." This technique was used in that film to great effect and couldn't have been achieved using a greenscreen (he's standing in the hall with the students rushing around him). Cheers.
@videomaker you have no imagination. i assume your saying it wouldn't be possible to do it that way because they could walk right through him. but say i placed an object such as a pole which forces their movement to avoid where his position will be. also think about the fact that they are extras being directed to perform a task. there could be just some tape on the ground that they are supposed to avoid contact with. i'm just trying to point out that your way doesn't have a natural feel to it.
@videomaker This technique wont work b/c your character will look like he's shivering. What they do is rotoscope the person into the crowd. This allows you to maintaing a good DOF and good movement. It was also used in the music video for "DJ got us falling in love"
@JesseGilbertFiIms or you could film the background, then at the location (to get the lighting right) film the subject doing the action infront of a green screen. Then speed up the background and chroma key out the green screen.
I think using a green screen would somewhat diminish this effect. I think the subtle imperfections make it look a lot better if used in the right setting Chromakey would make it look very superimposed and perfect which might be more effective is some circumstances.
This effect would have been a lot easier and better if they just recorded the guy doing his actions normaly. Than record the passing trafic (2 Diffrent clips) Cut a mask around that guy (Colour correct the diffrences between the two clips) and than slow down the guy, but speed up the backround.
Not the best way, what if the presenter was talking?
Best option, tripod the cam, take some film of the background scene without the presenter, then take some of the presenter doing his/her work either using green-screen and composite back at studio or trace-edit using chroma-key of no green-screen available.
HA Proabably the worst way to do this effect!!!! One if you guys at video maker do some RESEARCH!!! what you need to do is shoot the the background for awhile without your subject then, With the camera still in its exact position, shoot the scene with the subject once you enter the PP phase mask out your subject and keep him in real time then once the subject and the background are seperated speed up the background, once you run out of backdrop footage import the preshot footage. or 3DSANs way
another cool thing you can do with stuff like that is for example, shoot a video of a car window rolled up for a few seconds, then shoot another video with someone sticking their hand through the window when its rolled down. combine the two, add some special effects, and there you go. a video of someone sticking their hand through a rolled up window!
why not shoot the background video sepertely and shoot forground seperately on green screen add both them in a com program and edit it. to shot this effect.
wouldn't it be easy just to film your actor in front of a green screen and then speed up background footage you filmed previously. this process seems really time consuming and one mistake and the effect is ruined
Sorry, but this is ridiculous advice, *especially* for the shot used here! If you just use the same shot TWICE and simply split the sped up background from the normal foreground using a simple, unanimated, soft-edged WIPE TRANSITION at around 60% completion, then the result would be 2000% better and you wouldn't have to do the silly, senseless SLOMO acting crap, which looks stupid EITHER WAY. There no fooling ANYONE with this. Subject looks like he's suffering a CAFFEIN SHOCK, no matter what!
Hmmm... then maybe just plain IGNORE IT??!! If you don't GET IT, then it probably wasn't even FOR YOU, so YOU quite obviously are the one that needs to be "shutting your jaw", huh??!
LOL! Do you actually READ the completely contradictory bullshit you write here?? "I just said it makes no sense to me"... oh well gee EINSTEIN, guess what else you can call that?? I'd say "NOT GETTING IT", so now just STFU, stop bothering the grown-ups and piss off.
while I hate to agree with know-it-alls, lin2log is right. It's theoretically possible to pull off this effect in the manner explained in this video, but Masking (or possibly some clever greenscreening) is the only way to really pull this off convincingly. Plus, it makes it so that wind and smoke aren't really an issue.
i agree with independent30, if u have the resources, just shoot the actor in green screen & time-lapse your background, then chroma key in your editor.
