This video is quite old. So wondering if your mom is vegan now, still sticking around? as you put it, I can hear your concern for her; I hope she is doing well.
@DanielManahan No, she is not anymore. She stuck to the plant based diet for about a year and improved a lot, now she's back... though she watches her diet she does eat eggs and cheese, and of course meat. The only thing she still consumes is soymilk instead of dairy milk... that's the downside of doing it for health reasons, some people drop it when they get better, because there is no ethical commitment to do it all the way :-(
@porolita22 Try introduce her to the John McDougall diet, it is based on starches and there are no cravings because you will eat until your full, no calorie restriction. You could also introduce the new movie "Earthlings" to her in a gentle kind way.. eliminate free fats and oils from the diet as well... wish you all the best and God bless. =)
It's so ironic that food industries claim that the way they run things is the cheapest way we know how, yet everything they do comes at a cost. It costs 70% of grains being fed to cows and pigs and other animals we use for food, instead of letting them graze and feeding that grain to people in the world who are starving. It comes at the cost of people getting sick and having to pay the money they earned to get better, which ends up costing more than "special vegan products" in the long run.
U post alot of vegan vids but u are a vegetarian which is great but u should become a full vegan to really unleash the full potential of a non animal diet and u won't regret it I promise(:
its true that vegans can get irritations from radioactivity or air pollution but they don't turn into life-damaging diseases like cancer, heart disease, hernia, vision loss, and diabetes.
if you want a life completely free of dangerous diseases going vegan is smart and economical especially in a society that counts on so much radioactivity to generate business now. Going vegan saved my life, made me wealthier, and gave me a good, positive, attitude about a future and God.
Dr Oz show had a cowboy go vegan and my father had triple bypass heart surgery despite being thin and fit, he nearly died by 45. Its karma though. VeganHealth dotorg is a good registered dietician.
@thedreamdealer I really hope she isn't doing such a horrible thing to the cat by making it vegan... cats are carnivores... they cannot tolerate large amounts of plant foods...
Hi! I really feel for you & your mom. I had travel to s. korea and got sick were i can not eat meats eggs. well my points is soy milk and soy product can be danger to your thiriod if taken more then 3 time a week. Please look into a
RawFood diet and make your own milk with nut it is great. what your mom has is hard but she can make if. What i have can not be cured & with blood sugar and high ? plus damage nerve, heart,& brain, she can do it. I am working on me so i know there is hope for her
Porolita, best news ever!!. It happened to my grandpa as well, the guy who used to have steak everyday if he could. After the cleansing he can tell the difference, he basically reversed his diabetes...I guess your mom will come eventually to that realization and keep the dietary lifestyle even after recovering. Cheers and congrats!! Go vegan!

make your own soymilk witha soymilk maker. costs only 50 cents per galon that way and you don't get the processed sugars. tastes great warm too in oatmeal.
she will get better if she is dedicated to her health. once she realizes how good her self esteme gets from doing less harm to animals, she will be set for life on a journey of life long health and happiness.

Thats a good doctor.....I am asthmatic n my doctor has never encouraged me not to eat dairy....I did my own research.....now am vegan n am feeling and looking much better.......not having to take medications that r pack with side effect....
I'm glad that it was a dietitian who gave your mom this advice. Very smart person, I hope to become one one day. I see you bought silk soy milk. Stay away from that, they claim to be organic, but they switched to GMO soybeans awhile ago. I recommend So Nice, it's very good, and organic non-gmo (says it on the label). Don't get So Good either (GMO also). Anyways, I was scared when I saw "doctor's" orders. Doctors don't know anything about nutrition, they don't study it at all during med school.
Sorry to hear your mom's health isn't in the best shape, but she's lucky she has you to help her recover! I'm glad that those conditions such as high blood pressure can be reversible. Keep helping out your mom, and I'm sure she'll do great :) You should read "The China Study"... it's amazing.
if your mom eats too much soy she might be trading her high cholesterol for breast cancer. unfermented soy products such as soy milk and tofu contain Phytoestrogen which mimics estrogen in the body and can cause major hormonal problems, and cancer in hormone-sensitive tissue like the breast.
I don't know the details exactly but soy products are not actually that good for you, especially some women. They have some kind of Estrogen in them wich can affect you. Miso and Tempeh are ok I think. I find Rice milk and Oat milk really good (get the whole grain rice milk). If anyone has more specifics about the soy, that would be great!
Yeah that is a good point. I guess some people would do that though! Especially if they're new to being veg and weren't really sure how to do it. Maybe people are more aware than that these days I dunno, but it's possible to be a very unhealthy vegetarian or vegan! Vegan cheesecake mmmm...
that's true but i ate alot of meat in my teens and early twenties. i got chronic fatigue syndrome and even had to be on medications for trying to fight cancer.
i felt like i was going to die of cancer eventually on drugs and sentient consumption so i went vegan. when i went vegan alot of my environmental-caused exhaustion disappeared and I was able to focus more and get off of drugs.
I have tried a few times to go vegan, and it did not work out for me. But I really would like to. Maybe I can do better if I still eat some dairy. But at this point I am not really sure.
I am open to any advise that you might have on doing better.
@MrRobHere if you like dairy so much, maybe you can find alternative soy products that are really good. I personally don't consume them but maybe that would help you. The longer you don't consume them, the easier it will become. Trust me.
@MrRobHere The reason why it is difficult to get rid of dairy is because of its contents of a type of morphine that creates the addictive sensation and thus the cravings. Just be strong and add in the supplements such as rice milk, soy milk, oat milk, almond milk, hemp milk etc etc. Also look at the John McDougall diet site, I`m on it now but will gradually move towards a more Raw diet as I`m going to a tropical country. =)
@MrRobHere Hey MrRobHere! My friend had to go vegan for medical reasons, she has dietary issues and is gluten intolerant and soy intolerant, and is a former cheese addict! Anyways, my point I'm trying to get to, is that she misses her dairy, and things she loves to drink is Silk Coconut milk, or Silk chocolate almond milk. She always recommends tapioca based cheeses if you don't like soy cheese or rice cheese, since tapioca melts more easily. Also toffutti cream cheese and sour cream are great!
MisterNutrition must have ties to the meat industry. There is far too many reports that show a vast increase in heart disease, cancer, auto-immune, diabetes, to name a few. Read the China Study and I recommend you watch `Food That Kills` on YouTube. Flesh of any kind is full of hormones, antibiotics, herbicides, pesticides and some animals may be diseased when they enter the food chain.
Most are - and in some cases it can be washed or peeled off. I eat organic where ever possible to eliminate the toxins. When you eat flesh, it is far more concentrated.
Well, that's only true for store bought meat. I eat a lot of wild game meat which has none. Free range meat has relatively little as well. Processed meat is equivalent to processed flour, to be fair.
Of course cost is a huge problem now for anything organic with products costing 2-4x's what nonorganics are.
Cost and organic factor aside, all meat / animal products are loaded with saturated fact and is our only outside source of cholesterol. Watch the YouTube clip titled "Food That Kills". Why would anyone want to consume artery clogging food.
That's not truly correct. The research that claims that those things constantly suffers from having not isolated 'meat' in the diet and claims of causation are deeply flawed. It's now a fact that 'meat', obese forms of it, has to be consumed in the presence of high blood sugar to have negative effects-'artery clogging'. And cholesterol is nothing more than 'guilty by association'. Research on it's meds show 0% decrease of MI and strokes when it's lowered. 0%.
The disease worry. Do you cook your meat? Good, cooking will kill all pathogens.
I've run a very brief search for how HGH (in meat) is affected by heat. Turns out it's destroyed by heat (i.e. cooking) very quickly. I'd need more research to really validate this though.
"Artery clogging" Do some research on cholesterol; you will find that the only risk of thrombosis is abnormally small LDP particles. This is controlled by diet but has nothing to do with saturated fats.
Even high heat cooking will not kill Mad Cow disease... were you born yesterday or something? Your statements have absolutely no credibility.. non whatsoever. Do some "REAL" research and stop viewing "junk science". If you feel you need to continue eating animals, than by all means, do so...however you will wind up in trouble. You mention thrombosis... ??? excuse me... I am talking heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure. Why don't you watch "Food That Kills" and then get back to me.
Cooking kills all pathogens: bacteria, protoctists, viruses. "Mad Cow disease" was a decade or so ago.. relevance?
Thrombosis is the cause of heart disease and stroke. The supposed "cholestrol pathway" that leads to these fatal thrombusses is via atherosclerosis: where damage to or a cavity in the endothelium (wall) of an artery is filled with various debris, causing a protrusion for platelets, proteins to form "plaque" a.k.a. a clot.
Your knowledge is from 1 video? You do not know processes
500 word limit makes it hard for me to explain fully. The biological debris (molecules in blood plasma i.e. proteins, cells i.e. lymphocytes) in the endothelium is covered up by new tissue cells, but often becomes inflamed, which exxacerbates the problem. You should look up the anti-inflammatory details of veggie vs. carni diet.
Those conscious and concerned about their health should definitely focus on anti-inflammatory nutrients.
Omega-3 oils, fish being the ideal source until we pollutedsea
Aw, I wish your mom all the best, sweetie! Veganism is really amazing, it changed my life, made me so much healthier and more aware of the foods I eat. I'm sorry your mom had to get sick to be Vegan, but I really hope she feels better. =)
wish my ma would go vegan. But she's so militant in meat-eating. I'm aware of her nasty ailments. Her bias sure clouds her the worse. The cleansing effect which she would deem as "sickness" is one of the main problems. *sigh*
Anyways, even though I was suppose to comment here weeks ago, just thought I'd ramble.
It's great that the dietitian, told her she has to be off flesh and dairy. When you eat these things to be told you have to eliminate all of them at one is overwhelming at first. In reality we know it's not hard. She is so lucky to have you as a daughter to guide her through and make it easy. Keep us updated as to her progress.
I hope your mother's health improves! If there is anything I can do let me know! Have you considered setting a meal plan with her? Maybe you can both sit down and set what you will both eat for the next week and you can keep in contact about the meal preparation etc... It can be a fun thing to do.
Also, have you thought about Rice Milk or other nut milks? I think Almond Milk is great!
Wow, sorry to hear about your mom. It's good that a doctor was able to convince her to stay away from the meat and dairy. It's a shame that so many people have to get ill before they learn the facts about how bad an animal-based diet can be and how much harm it can do. I hope that she gets well soon and I hope she knows how lucky she is that she found out about this in time. She should be glad that she has you to help her as well. Good luck.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
ah so sorry, the fact is that meat is necesary for life and being healthy. that is a fact. it can do no harm, however not eating meat is very harmful, please get some facts
Going vegan is the only way to save her life and live a long and healthy life. Watch EATING the documentary,,,, it's on my playlist right there with EARTHLINGS. If you watch Eating, it will all make sense and you can explain it to everyone so much better.
Also, watch the youtube video titled "Milk - The Deadly Poison - Frightening" and believe me anyone seeing this won't want dairy products again.
LOL I hadn't thought about that... haha. Thanks! I dunno maybe I do look a bit like her. If I didn't straighten my hair maybe I would look even more like her.
sorry to hear about that, i suppose it will be better for you though as i no what its like to live in a family being the only vegan, it gets quite complicated making two meals...so now you can have whole family vegan meals =D
Is your mum going to stop wearing animal clothing? or anything like that...i understand its for health reasons but just wondering if she was going to officially become a vegan
Nah I don't see her doing that anytime soon but I'm not giving up the hopes! She is strictly doing it for diet & health reasons. But she is growing to like it... which is awesome.
I am convincing her of making a video with me, but she's too shy LOL
hope she gets better! people have not been taught anything about nutrition! it's all a business of sickness not health! glad she made some major changes!
Sorry your mom is sick. I hope she gets better soon. On the upside, maybe she will realize how good a vegan diet is for her, and that its not that bad once she gets used to it! haha...and you can make vegan meals together!
I eat vegan and actually enjoy it. I like that soy milk tastes flat..I no longer drink it like water. I've had fun learning to cook vegetables in a low fat way. Since I did 95% of the meat cooking in my family, they are too lazy to cook any..so they are eating less meat too. Tell your mom to rejoice that she is freed from the most expensive of foods. Approached properly, vegan eating is kind of fun.
I hope your mom gets better - and I'm sure she will be a successful vegan with your help, porolita :)
I am slowly turning my family into vegans - since my meat-eating bro lives away from home for college, I have a big say in what groceries to buy. Being a vegan, it forces my parents to cook vegans meals for the family, since they're too lazy to cook separate meat meals for themselves (most of the time). I'm evil.
your mom is lucky to have a daughter who can show her the ropes! that must be pretty neat to have vegan mom now
my husband just took an allergy test & found out he's allergic to gluten, vanilla, tumeric & mustard seed. he's been poisoning himself for years! No more Indian food, no more seitan, wheat, oats.. just hope cooked breads & sweets & a lot of home made broths & sauces now since tumeric & mustard are in practically everything
It's nice to have someone help your way through the process
Everyone always thinks I'm younger than I am. I'm 25. Not too old, not too young. :)
My father & mother-in-law went vegan for about a year and a half & gave it up cause they started managing an old folks home where the meals are regimented. My mom attempted, but my brother pushed her out of it.
As long as you are there she will be excited hopefully. You'll get to bond. Then when you are out of the house she'll have the basics down so she won't feel intimidated being alone with it.
Yesterday I found this "vegan cheese" recipe... It's suposed to taste kinda like mozzarella, and it also melts! I haven't tried it yet, I want to try it today and see how it gets :)
It's great that your mom goes vegan!, but not so great that it was due to health problems :/ I hope your mom gets well soon and also that she stays vegan! :)
Yeah, it's been 2 weeks now and she's feeling better. She has terrible craves though.
Yesterday we went to get pizza for my Sister's special occasion and we both had salad while everyone else munched on the pizza. I was fine but she was like "pizzaaaaaaa" :'(
Forced to go vegan? Hmm... The same thing happens, you know, when you watch one of those PETA vids about Fur, Leather, Wool, and meat. UGH! So scary! But, anyway, does she have to go VEGAN? What's wrong with going VEGETERIAN?!
The thing is, dairy products (which vegetarians consume) are high in fat. So she can't eat them because her Cholesterol is dangerously high and it will only make it worse.

That's only if you eat a ton of soy.

Most vegetarians are unhealthy, lol.
Especially the younger ones who think, oh I eat pizza, I'm a vegetarian.
There are not many choices for vegetarians and esp. vegans when you go out on the street.
The meat and dairy industry have total control on everything are people are absolutely brain-washed and don't want to hear the truth about anything.
The same lies are being told about the economy and people believe it.

DianeDi 2 years ago
The US is trying to pass a Bill S-527 - this bill will seek to overturn the
FDA's ban on feeding brain and spinal tissue back
to cows & companion animals
DianeDi 2 years ago
Gee, aren't fruits and veggies also full of herbicides and pesticides?
trulyheaven777 2 years ago
Most are - and in some cases it can be washed or peeled off. I eat organic where ever possible to eliminate the toxins. When you eat flesh, it is far more concentrated.
DianeDi 2 years ago
Well, that's only true for store bought meat. I eat a lot of wild game meat which has none. Free range meat has relatively little as well. Processed meat is equivalent to processed flour, to be fair.
Of course cost is a huge problem now for anything organic with products costing 2-4x's what nonorganics are.
trulyheaven777 2 years ago
Cost and organic factor aside, all meat / animal products are loaded with saturated fact and is our only outside source of cholesterol. Watch the YouTube clip titled "Food That Kills". Why would anyone want to consume artery clogging food.
DianeDi 2 years ago
That's not truly correct. The research that claims that those things constantly suffers from having not isolated 'meat' in the diet and claims of causation are deeply flawed. It's now a fact that 'meat', obese forms of it, has to be consumed in the presence of high blood sugar to have negative effects-'artery clogging'. And cholesterol is nothing more than 'guilty by association'. Research on it's meds show 0% decrease of MI and strokes when it's lowered. 0%.
trulyheaven777 2 years ago
My contribution:
The disease worry. Do you cook your meat? Good, cooking will kill all pathogens.
I've run a very brief search for how HGH (in meat) is affected by heat. Turns out it's destroyed by heat (i.e. cooking) very quickly. I'd need more research to really validate this though.
"Artery clogging" Do some research on cholesterol; you will find that the only risk of thrombosis is abnormally small LDP particles. This is controlled by diet but has nothing to do with saturated fats.
Teghead 2 years ago
Even high heat cooking will not kill Mad Cow disease... were you born yesterday or something? Your statements have absolutely no credibility.. non whatsoever. Do some "REAL" research and stop viewing "junk science". If you feel you need to continue eating animals, than by all means, do so...however you will wind up in trouble. You mention thrombosis... ??? excuse me... I am talking heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure. Why don't you watch "Food That Kills" and then get back to me.
DianeDi 2 years ago
Cooking kills all pathogens: bacteria, protoctists, viruses. "Mad Cow disease" was a decade or so ago.. relevance?
Thrombosis is the cause of heart disease and stroke. The supposed "cholestrol pathway" that leads to these fatal thrombusses is via atherosclerosis: where damage to or a cavity in the endothelium (wall) of an artery is filled with various debris, causing a protrusion for platelets, proteins to form "plaque" a.k.a. a clot.
Your knowledge is from 1 video? You do not know processes
Teghead 2 years ago
500 word limit makes it hard for me to explain fully. The biological debris (molecules in blood plasma i.e. proteins, cells i.e. lymphocytes) in the endothelium is covered up by new tissue cells, but often becomes inflamed, which exxacerbates the problem. You should look up the anti-inflammatory details of veggie vs. carni diet.
Those conscious and concerned about their health should definitely focus on anti-inflammatory nutrients.
Omega-3 oils, fish being the ideal source until we pollutedsea
Teghead 2 years ago
Omega 3 and 6 for your info is readily available in walnuts, Chia, kiwifruit, Flax, Cowberry, Black Raspberry,Butternuts,
Hempseed/Cannabis, Pecan nuts,
Hazel nuts. I have NEVER eaten FISH in my life, and I am not deficient in any Omega 3 6 or 9 essential nutrients.
Like I said, watch "Food That Kills".

The cholesterol myth will be exposed completely within the next ten years. Big pharma has too much invested in lowering cholesterol levels right now.

I hope your mom is doing well! How is she adjusting to the change in diet? Hopefully she is seeing just how easy and wonderful vegan living can be!!
Love and peace to you!

Wishing you & your mom well. =)

Best wishes, -Joe

Wow, sorry to hear about your mom. It's good that a doctor was able to convince her to stay away from the meat and dairy. It's a shame that so many people have to get ill before they learn the facts about how bad an animal-based diet can be and how much harm it can do. I hope that she gets well soon and I hope she knows how lucky she is that she found out about this in time. She should be glad that she has you to help her as well. Good luck.

Going vegan is the only way to save her life and live a long and healthy life. Watch EATING the documentary,,,, it's on my playlist right there with EARTHLINGS. If you watch Eating, it will all make sense and you can explain it to everyone so much better.
Also, watch the youtube video titled "Milk - The Deadly Poison - Frightening" and believe me anyone seeing this won't want dairy products again.

sorry to hear about that, i suppose it will be better for you though as i no what its like to live in a family being the only vegan, it gets quite complicated making two meals...so now you can have whole family vegan meals =D
Is your mum going to stop wearing animal clothing? or anything like that...i understand its for health reasons but just wondering if she was going to officially become a vegan
nice video though

Nah I don't see her doing that anytime soon but I'm not giving up the hopes! She is strictly doing it for diet & health reasons. But she is growing to like it... which is awesome.
I am convincing her of making a video with me, but she's too shy LOL

I eat vegan and actually enjoy it. I like that soy milk tastes flat..I no longer drink it like water. I've had fun learning to cook vegetables in a low fat way. Since I did 95% of the meat cooking in my family, they are too lazy to cook any..so they are eating less meat too. Tell your mom to rejoice that she is freed from the most expensive of foods. Approached properly, vegan eating is kind of fun.

rjbeaman2007 3 years ago
I hope your mom gets better - and I'm sure she will be a successful vegan with your help, porolita :)
I am slowly turning my family into vegans - since my meat-eating bro lives away from home for college, I have a big say in what groceries to buy. Being a vegan, it forces my parents to cook vegans meals for the family, since they're too lazy to cook separate meat meals for themselves (most of the time). I'm evil.
destructicon500 3 years ago
You're not evil. You are clever ;) muahaha!
porolita22 3 years ago
I've also seen my family members eating less and less meat. Except for my mom; she seems to eat more haha.
KnittyGrittyNatch 3 years ago
your mom is lucky to have a daughter who can show her the ropes! that must be pretty neat to have vegan mom now
my husband just took an allergy test & found out he's allergic to gluten, vanilla, tumeric & mustard seed. he's been poisoning himself for years! No more Indian food, no more seitan, wheat, oats.. just hope cooked breads & sweets & a lot of home made broths & sauces now since tumeric & mustard are in practically everything
It's nice to have someone help your way through the process
shegavemearainbow 3 years ago 2
It sure is, I hope she stays that way!!!
And... You're married? LOL you look so young :-D I am getting married in March... hehe.
porolita22 3 years ago
Everyone always thinks I'm younger than I am. I'm 25. Not too old, not too young. :)
My father & mother-in-law went vegan for about a year and a half & gave it up cause they started managing an old folks home where the meals are regimented. My mom attempted, but my brother pushed her out of it.
As long as you are there she will be excited hopefully. You'll get to bond. Then when you are out of the house she'll have the basics down so she won't feel intimidated being alone with it.
shegavemearainbow 3 years ago
Yesterday I found this "vegan cheese" recipe... It's suposed to taste kinda like mozzarella, and it also melts! I haven't tried it yet, I want to try it today and see how it gets :)

irismac 3 years ago
Sooner or later animal products make your body ill. It's only natural. They are poisonous and cruel.
What more reason do people need to ditch them?
It's not worth to sacrifice an animal's right to a decent life, just for a few seconds of "taste" (ugh), that will poison your body and get you sick.

I hope your mother will be feeling well soon with the new diet. QA lucky coincidence or?
Usually with high cholesterol you get to much of one sort and not enough of another and if the body can not make up the balance than trouble resorts.
NaomiClareNL 3 years ago
Yeah, it's been 2 weeks now and she's feeling better. She has terrible craves though.
Yesterday we went to get pizza for my Sister's special occasion and we both had salad while everyone else munched on the pizza. I was fine but she was like "pizzaaaaaaa" :'(
porolita22 3 years ago
Did the doctor forbid all grains or just wheat?
NaomiClareNL 3 years ago
Just bread, because of the oil. She can still eat home made bread (with olive oil) I am not sure why.
porolita22 3 years ago
Than it is in the type of oil used. Since food companies want to make as much profit as the can they substitue good stuff for bad stuff.
NaomiClareNL 3 years ago
I bet she will feel so much better now :)

Forced to go vegan? Hmm... The same thing happens, you know, when you watch one of those PETA vids about Fur, Leather, Wool, and meat. UGH! So scary! But, anyway, does she have to go VEGAN? What's wrong with going VEGETERIAN?!
LOPONUMER 3 years ago

I explain it there :-)
porolita22 3 years ago
The thing is, dairy products (which vegetarians consume) are high in fat. So she can't eat them because her Cholesterol is dangerously high and it will only make it worse.
