  • Outstanding phrasing and dynamics. Keep it up!

  • Sounds like a dragon with matches is loose on the town!

  • funky shit brother. keep on.

  • I want to jam like this, i just can't learn the modes for some reason

  • Very nice!

  • @gratefullybred hy, could you give me any personal opinion between the archtop iv adn the hollowbody??

    thanks

  • @filip1900 i used to have both, and i opted to keep the archtop and let the hollowbody go. the archtop bridge pickup is an unbelievably versatile tone.. that combined with the brazilian rosewood neck is perfect to me.

  • dream to do this

  • @gratefullybred for real...somebody saying that theres only one way to play a tune is the most un-grateful dead thing he could do...what a grateful douche

    nice playing though

  • @limeChime99 just learn the right modes and let it go brother!

  • you rock

  • u got it down bred!

  • Outstanding!!!

  • Still good.

  • what scale are you soloing and what key is it? A?

  • Last one...I promise...gratefullybred, in case you couldn't tell from my previous posts, I dig your vids, and I dig your playing style. Great stuff! Keep it up!

  • awesome, going to put some head phones on and jam some drum to this

  • Nonetheless... this is badass!

  • This is sick man. I like it alot. Couple questions...you using any effects on this at all? (sounds like a faint overdrive, maybe a compressor too??) What type/gauge picks do you use? I really like your tone

  • Wow- really effing smooth man. Great, great feel. Your style has a Jerry-ish tempo, but you were way more fluid than Jerry typically is on "Fire". I too am a guitarist and am very impressed with your swung out, groove-oriented phrasing.

    Keep flying man.

  • ur an idiot, theres n o jerryish to this at all, hes not using the right scales, the phrasing isnt great by any means, dont even compare this kid to garcia

  • @gratefulpat6595 Actually, he IS using the correct scales. And the phrasing is awesome in my opinion. I love it and I think it sounds great. Nowhere in the description of this video is he saying that he's trying to phrase like Jerry...he's JAMMING. Jamming usually means you incorporate your own unique style, which is exactly what he's doing here. Don't slam his vid just because he's putting his own style over a chord progression that he likes and playing something unique...

  • @gratefulpat6595....cont'd....as opposed to covering GD songs exactly as they were recorded, which is all I've seen in your vids...really original. At least give him some props on his tone...its absolutely beautiful. Unlike yours which is dripping with, and ruined by too much reverb...sounds like you're playing inside of a sewer. So no, you're the idiot, please learn to recognize and respect a real musician instead of whining bc someone other than you rec'd a compliment ab a GD related post.

  • @gratefulpat6595

It's in B Mixolydian you retard. You can't really play the wrong scale on this song unless you tried. And yes he is using the proper scale(s). (Mixolydian and pentatonic most likely)

  • @dijonslam I fucking love that "You cant really play the wrong scale on this song unless you tried" aha thats great

  • awolf007 just said this guy is more fluid then jerry......lmao dude this guy doesent even sound like jerry at all. im not trying to talk shit on the playing he sounds good but he doesent sound a bit like jerome

  • sup master of all good sounds- long night of partying and clubbing and i am just chillin here vibing so hard on this. i am still such a fan of you, have been for longer than a year

  • haha, thanks a lot man, hope the club treated you alrite..

  • not much impresses me. only 30 seconds in and this does.

  • glad you enjoyed..!

  • @gratefullybred that was indescribable man! unbelievable playing. how long have you been playing?

  • Wow.

  • Your style reminds me of derek trucks mixed with abunch of other goodies

  • Damn your style is really sick. You pull off the garcia style riffs really well. What scale are you playing?

  • Thanks! Fire on the mountain is just a jam in B mixolydian..

  • nice axe, ive been wanting one for SO long, but SO expensive. hopefully one day i hope to make a jerry "wolf" style guitar, perhaps semihollow or chambered style

  • awesome!

  • I absolutely agree wholeheartedly with okdonkeysmell. as wynton marsalis would say in great music there are no mistakes ..only color.

  • that sounded great... the "sour bends" and "clams" only give music more personality in my opinion!

  • awsome. how bout some floyd?

  • i really like your playing it was very "Garcia-ish" jerry would be proud!

  • great job!

    you r very good :)

  • damn good job, keep it up man, love to hear some clapton

  • Sounds great, man. what kinda rig and guitar are you using?

  • thank you, thats my prs mccarty hollowbody into an analogman silver tubescreamer, into a fender deluxe reverb.

  • what scales or notes are u playing?

  • That's B Mixolydian, with some blues licks.

  • That's dope.

  • that's incredible. you've got some great feeling in your playing!

  • you are an inspiration, really great ideas here

  • thanks a lot brother.

  • He's my teacher and he's gotten a lot better since i last saw him. Good luck on tour and keep rocking.

    Josh

  • That was wicked bro.

This old school tourhead loved it. Keep it comming please.

  • thanks brother, hopefully i can get some video of my band within a few weeks..

  • dag that was dirty

  • woah this really good

i like the more jam style you have to it

    nicely done brother

  • man that was awesome

  • grate!

  • Please tell me the key thats in

  • This tune is in B mixolydian.

  • dude love you're guitar. I want a hollowbody II. need to wait they're friggin expensive!

  • i have not seen something so great on you tube for a while, you definitely have some crucial ass licks and timing. i can definitely dig this right here

  • I still like Jerry better, but this was awesome. I put it in my regular rotation.

  • Cliff, I can't add to the comments you have here from musicians, but I can tell you I am proud of you and stoked to hear more. Hope we can connect this summer. If not - for sure while you are at school this fall!

  • How is the quality of your PRS, because you really have to play the guitar to know what it's like. But my guitar teacher said PRS' are nice, but I would be disappointed since I play a Les Paul. Could you give me some advice, because I'm looking for a new guitar besides another Les Paul.

  • personally, i think the quality of PRS guitars is above and beyond gibson. i used to have a gibbo les paul standard, that was a great guitar, but once i picked up the prs hollowbody, it really couldnt compare so i sold it. dont get me wrong, i love gibson guitars, but i dont think that their quality is as consistant as prs guitars are. i would definetly recommend checking out some prs guitars.

  • You've got your own style, pretty cool adaptation ... by the way, I just noticed after looking at your profile that you are from Jersey as am I, named Cliff as am I, and we both posted videos of ourselves playing Fire. Weird.

  • that is some beautiful playing man...i was just wondering what kind of guitar you have..very much trey-like style

  • thanks a lot. my guitar is a paul reed smith mccarty hollowbody spruce. spruce top, mahogany back and sides. completely hollow. it is an amazing instrument, took me a lot of work in high school to afford!

  • I hope you didn't misunderstand my previous post, all i really meant was more tension. As far as jerry's style is concerned... Jerry was the master of tension/ resolution. I wouldn't describe it as pretentious, maybe... just a little less cliche. Anyway, don't mean to ramble, and i really dig your playing so keep jamming, the more people we have playing the dead the better.

  • i feel you man. in a band situation i would approach playing this song differently, with more tension as you said. i just hate over-theorying such a simple vamp like this! post up some more shit brotha, i was diggin on the jazz clip you have posted up.

  • Well regardless of which altered tones you choose to work with you still only have 12 options regarding what note to play. That being said G mel minor yields a flat 3rd, flat 5, sharp5, and dominant 7. The flat 3rd is really tonality defying, especially over a static jam such as this.

  • Not bad, try incorporating some E melodic minor licks, its a hip way to break out of the standard modes of the major scale and bring out some fresh ideas. The G natural (#9) is a great tension builder once you have exhausted your mixolydian ideas, just use it sparingly.

  • Thanks for the advice. I, personally, would much rather approach non-diatonic playing by using G melodic minor (or, to be more accurate, F# altered, since that would imply a strong need to resolve back to B). But being that I was playing the jerry garcia style, why would I want to use something so pretentious. I'd much rather just let the style be retained & let it groove & feel good.

  • I'm about to buy a shecter hollow body much like your PRS, I play alot like you too, tell me do you like the body? what's your opinion? p.s. sweet licks.

  • you got it bro, you got it..u should put some more dead covers up!

  • bro...u rock ...you have jerry flowing through your fingertips

  • thanks for the compliments. i am in the process of starting a band right now, i definetly will post some videos up of that when the time is right. im thinking of selling my q tron to fund the purchase of a mutron. i need to look into that pedal a little more. is it true bypass? im a stickler for that kind of stuff. i use a pretty straight forward rig, tubescreamers, wah, and a compressor, i hate a muddy signal! how about the line 6 filter modeler? is that cool?

  • awsome that was really cool! are in a band? if you are post a video I bet it would be kick ass.

  • dude you rock.

  • that was excellent

  • thank you!

learn those scales! they are so useful! modes unlock so many possibilities to music!

when i play this song in a band setting i usually use my electro harmonix q tron, which is like a mutron, not the same thing though. ive always wanted one of those... jerry makes it sound so good!

maybe ill post a video with some q tron samples...

  • dude im telling you this is HOT~!~ i own both the q-tron and a mutron, i use the q-tron for my clean envelope playing and kick on the mutron when i want a little distortion, when u turn up the gain on the oG mutron it causes a bit of distortion perfect for those amazing leads in "fire". just bite your tongue and shell out the $450 for a used one on ebay, i did and have never regretted it. keep up the great playing~!vince

  • beautiful, just watching this makes me want to learn those scales. I play a PRS Santana SE, not as nice as your mccarty but im working for a standard 24. ever play that on a mutron?

  • This is fantastic! You put a funkiness to it i've never heard before in this song. Great stuff.

  • im playing in B Mixolydian with a little B pentatonic mixed in here and there.

  • What scale are you playing in, its sounds pretty sweet

  • thanks, its a paul reed smith mccarty hollowbody spruce top. took me a year of work to buy it!

  • not bad man, what kind of guitar is that?

  • thanks a lot! your looking at how ive been spending my christmas break at home! i guess i cant complain that much.. : )

  • great playing dude where are in a dorm room or something
