this is my faviorate sew item. please inter me into your giveaway. i have both back and neck pain. i make my bags long do i can wrap them across my shoulders and around my neck. i made a small bag to pur onto my moms arthritic hsnds. she loves it. thanks for the many videos . i use the videos several times. it is so good to be scribed to your channel. i have sent friends and family to the site so they have access to your wondreful videos.

I made smaller ones last year because they're great, cute, and inexpensive things to put in your pockets to keep your hands warm. I also put scented aroma beads inside so that they don't smell like rice

@ummabdurrahman1 I used a linen blend for the lining and cotton for the outer. For my second one I used a t-shirt for the outer. Not sure how the rice burned...I know people use flannel for these all the time. Don't microwave the bag for more then 2 minutes at a time, then check the heat and if it's not hot enough do another 30 to 60 seconds.

About how long does your rice bag stay hot? I'm thinking of making one with a flannel fabric on the outside, hoping it would stay hot longer, any suggestions? I'm also wondering about making both layers with velcro so that the rice can be easily replaced after it gets old and icky...again, any suggestions?

I really like this. I've always seen rice heat bags and have wanted to make one, but never got around to it. My dad has arthritis in his right hand and I also have a bandanna with motorcycles all over it that I haven't figured out what to use it for. My dad (and practically whole family, lol) is into motorcycles. Now I know what to do with the danna! =)

I like the 2 layers of fabric...makes it easier to change if the surface layer becomes soiled.

I used to have a barley bag and it was wonderful...I've done rice ones but have had them catch fire in microwave...however, that was due to hubby overheating it methinks..just be careful not to zap too long. I have read that cherry pits are better to use in regards to micro bacteria and what not. We are going to try cherry bags...plan on doing for Christmas but will probably be late since we are trying to buy a sewing machine presently.

I love making these, but be careful because some times the rice packs can have steam when you get them out of the microwave. Those burn a bit I just carefully shake them a bit when I get them out so they dont burn my neck :) Great video!

\what a great tutorial! I've heard about self heating bags with cherry seads, but not filled with rice. Is it much lighter?

By the way, If you have neck and back aches, you should check your position during working with you computer or sewing machine. A bad position could cause headache, and that's not great.

i am very proud of myself i made each of my nieces and nephews a different color and shape so they will know which is theirs and made them 2 so that they can have one for cold and one for warm....did you know you can put them in the freezer to use as an ice pack too.....i have an old machine like that but im too scared to even plug it in till i have it checked out i dont want to wreck it

Whitney this is ingenious!! I always wanted one of these, but they are so expensive. Now I can make it out of scraps! A fun suggestion I was thinking of would be to take the fabric first and hand wash it in a sink with soap, water, and 1 or 2 drops of a favorite scented oil for relaxation :)

Here in Finland they commonly sell those bags in stores, and here the most common filling is wheat. I don't know does it behave any differently compared to rice, but I love the smell of warm wheat. :)

Does the grain size of the rice make a difference?

@YenieD13 You can use any size rice as long as it regular cooking rice (no minute or instant rice!) Long grain is what you will most commonly find.

@AshleySaves2121 That is a great question...I don't know how flax seed would work. You could google it to see if other people have tried using it and liked the outcome or try it out yourself. If you try it I would love to hear how it turns out :)
