  • nice delay!:D

  • fukin totally out of time delete assole

  • i like him better now !!

  • From around 83 to 90 was the best era for me.So many great players, although the "poodle hair" on a few of them looked funny..:)

  • Everyone played like that in those days - it was the GIT/Berklee style :p

Check out Ritchie now - he's an amazing singer and plays a pretty bluesy style these days. See /watch?v=I-WQwHxJqSo

  • ...Who?

  • fender is mar kak en lyk kak

  • I have to admit.."Unsafe at any Speed" bent my ear...after listening to many many progressive metal bands and songs...but with my luck if i check it out to play ill probly think its the stupidest thing ever...so...i'm going to now play safe and say...this does not at all sound like early or late Steve Vai...but it Totally sounds Like Jason Becker

  • His brief tenure with Poison was interesting. I thought it quite ironic that he was a better singer than Bret Michaels!

  • Korny !!!!

  • i love this era...im born on wrong era....lol

  • he graduated shred, but his debut album was pretty damn good

  • thanks god he switched to Fender after this!

  • Man wtf is it with all the 80s/early 90s instructional videos and pinball machines?!

  • Number ONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • it's tottally out of sinc!!!!

  • @xuxis2008 OR.... he was just faster than sound already u.u

  • Cool paint job on the guitar.

  • He grew out of this style alot of guitarists get bored of the whole shredding thing

  • Yeah, they do because they want create more melodic stuff.

  • Can someone please put up "Strut it" from his first album???

  • @pitbull73 I just uploaded that song in my channel... in case you still wanna hear it... Laterz!

  • johnny B goode at the intro xDD

  • I initially was upset to hear him go to the blues and vocal style but I love it now. Electric Joy was the first thing I got to test out my first CD player. I thought that CD players had made the album sound too clean and might have somehow removed the vocals. It was just the way the album sounded. When I got to the track "High Wire" I repeated it like ten times. Then I listened to Dr. Glee to wind down. When I got to Deece Song I felt like I had heard the most special music ever created.

  • 19 years old and pure talent, one of most complete musician that i've ever seen.i meet him in verona...kind guy.

  • for the ones who doesn't know... this song is called "plaid plesiosaur", from his first self title album Richie Kotzen (1989).

anyway, it`s kind of true that he made this album to show but it's just awesome and you could see this cos his next album (fever dream) is kind of different and then with electric joy (3rd album) change his whole style into blues or jazz....

I like this version more than the original one, except for the tapping that it's on the original record.

  • he change his style cos he want to play blues and stuff like that... he recorded that record to show off.... anyway i listen to it every day... just awesome

i like this version more than the real one...

  • his old tone i dont like it, now fender + cornford kickass!

  • This video is out of sync

    @ wickedgame26

wow dude i think your crazy no offense richie is still good but he changed styles and went to one of those metophore guitarists now hes still great but he sure as hell is not really a shredder anymore.... well in a sense i guess because he doesnt shred although his technique is still near flawless and falwless against many others

His old tone was killer these sure were the days

  • Yea, it's out of sync by a couple of seconds, great playing though.

The eighties, where every guitarist was great and had one thing in common: color blindness. :p

  • his name "Kotzen" means "to puke" in german lol

  • Yea cause of his "SICK" playin hahaha yea man he's awesome =)

  • the tapping part @ 1:34 is awsome

  • This isn't ritchie kotzens normal stuff

And if your saying go check out greg howe insted.

Greg Howe is a big fan of Kotzen and vise versa, the have both collaborated in the past

  • his guitar looks like the bloody remnants of my exploded ballsack.

  • wow. that sucks...your balls are exploded?

  • kotzen means vomit in german^^

  • hahaa it does!

  • very cool Ibanez

  • i love his guitar

  • very underated player

  • wie kann einer nur echt kotzen heißen? xD

  • That riff at 1:03 is so awesome!

"Plaid Plesiosaur" is my favorite Kotzen song actually.

  • A long time ago i found a great site that showed a lot of signature Ibanez models and various guitars they've made for musicians over the years, and on the site they had a bunch of Kotzen's guitars including this one and you can barely tell in the video but the paint job is of retro horror movie posters and such lol one of his other guitars had the famous cover of "the shining" on the back i.e. Jack Nicholson's face through the door. Pretty original lol.

  • that guitar has a strange resemblance to the one John petrucci played during the early 90s and on his 'rock discipline' video

  • well, they are both ibanez's and both abstract style paintings, but petrucci's is a Picasso painting

  • HAHAH this is so cheezy but its real good!

  • here he sounds pretty much like vai

  • hahah this guy kicks the shit out of c.c.deville

  • i wish the arcade in my town had a Richie Kotzen pinball game

  • That Ibanez has scaloped neck?

  • just the 22nd to the 24th

  • i like the solo from 1:02 -1:30

from his debute album wich was co-produced by JASON BECKER

i wish varney wil remaster it sometime

the original album sounds like shit!!

  • it really does

  • it make me shit on my pants :O

  • does anybody knows where i can find the full video for download??.-

ritchie really smoked the guitar back then, not saying that he doesn t now a days,

i would really like to see his legato and fast arpeggio tecknique a bit slower hahaha.

  • Ah, the good old days of shred improv! ^_^

  • Richie is bad ass, so young, so talented.

  • richie you are the best guitarist i ever see

  • Look at richie back then. When I heard his solo album, I thought that he was inhuman. However, his tone really sucked. Now his tone is inhuman, and while his technique suffers because of the fat ass guitar neck he plays, he is way more techincal than most. And soulful when he wants to be. And he sings. Great. Makes me sick, the guy is so talented.

  • earthshaker, hmm...i think this would be a lot better if the backboard was a mirror, and i can watch myself jerk off in front of it. good player though.

  • Una delle cose più anni '80 che abbia mai visto

  • this ego intro sucks.

  • hauhauahuhaa

  • dimarzio super distorsion!

  • Which pups does he have in his Ibanez

  • those would be dimarzios my friend they appear to be the evolution series i think the best players play the best pickup lol

  • could be paf or tonezone also

  • Love that section of the video! Great legato and tapping licks. Richie is one of the best!

  • after see that, i will practic more and more...

  • Back when he was good.

  • such an under-rated guitarist. his use of a floating bridge is just amazing. i love to hear those notes come from the grave. probably on of the hardest techniques to make good use of. takes a perfect touch or it sounds like ass!

  • he's really great, he uses the wang bar very much like jeff beck does...as part of his style...not like gimmicky etc.

  • allan holdsworth, greg howe, brett garsed, and kotzen here all ahve the sickest, most amazing legato technique

  • yea followed by joe satriani (for "the sickest, most amazing legato technique") haha

  • agreed

  • Brett Garsed?

  • Marshall Harrison?

  • Lil Scrappy?

  • o cabra é um monstro de bom!!!

  • Anyone know what model that Ibanez is (minus the custom paintjob)...and those dimarzios look and sound sooo sick.

  • its an RG custom model

  • well yeah but what model would it be closet to? a 570?

  • its closest to any rg model but mainly the 370 i believe.

  • i think it is closest to the classic 550.

  • this is the first ive heard him play and i kinda like his style =D

  • that guitar wasnt made for him till 1989, after his debut on shrapnel was released

  • Does anybody know the model of that ibanez?

  • It was never released for the public, was created specifically for Richie by Ibanez.

  • Wrong. I worked for Richie's band, Arthurs Museum, in the 80s. He had that guitar then, before he was ever sponsored by anybody.

  • Oh I see.

Sorry for posting wrong information, could of sworn I read it Jemsite.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

  • As i used to say... everybody palys better on an ibanez... including john petrucci...

  • i disagree, even tho over half of my guitar collection is comprised of ibanez, its not the best guitar company

  • is this why people like joe steve etc use them? i own fenders, esps, ibanezs and others and safely i say that the iba takes the kudos... such control on on it

  • ibanez isnt exactly a boutique guitar company. comfortable neck yes, and at the time when ibanez came out in the 80s there was no competition for the contour of the wizard neck, but you have to realize that ibanez doesnt cater to your every want and need. you can't buy a mahogany neckthru ibanez with a kahler and scalloped frets, flamed maple top, and any type of pick up, locking tuner, etc etc right from the company you buy what they make, and YOU modify it. they aren't $3000 luthier material

  • Nah man, here Richie sounds like every other big-hair shredder ever.. give him a Fender and you'll see the soul coming out. I have an RG, and I much rather play my strat or PRS because they bring out the best of me as a musician, RG's feel like toys to me.

  • the only reason people even endorse guitar companies in the first place is for MONEY.. if you get big bucks, guitarists will play any guitar, thats why dave mustaine went to dean.. ive got nothing against ibanez, they are nice guitars, but i personally cant play them because my hand just cant feel comfortable around a wizard.. again, im not tryin to knock ibanez but when it comes to guitars its all just personal opinion.

  • man thanks for posting these. takes me back to when playing the guitar meant really knowing your fretboard. any one what hes doing these days. got asome lessons one time, the nicest guy really laid back..funny as hell though.

  • Kotzen plays the crap out of that Ibanez , Yowee!

  • And is also a great singer...

  • incredible guitar control, jeez he is a guitar god

  • I posted the ending solo if you wanna see it.

  • thanks someone had it posted at the early part of last year but they took it down so thnaks for posting it again..........sick shred

  • i agree. kotzen is absolutely one of the best controlled legato players ever. Even vai can not keep up with kotzen in my opinion

  • lol. der arme junge ist bestraft für sein ganzes Leben!!

wie kann man nur Kotzen heißen!!! hahahaha! ...kotzen xD einfach nur LOL

  • I think he's talking about Petrucci's old ibanez, not his music man.

  • der i know, the picasso one, it looks nothing like it man, u cant see it that clear in this vid anyway man!, nut head

  • WHAT????? that guitar looks nothing like petrucci's ***shakes head...

  • His guitar looks like Petruchi's guitar

  • hes a womanizer lol. bfore. not anymore though. anyways, hes one of the best legato players i've ever seen/heard!

  • jajaja damm this guy has changed... at least it was for good

  • What the hell ever happened to this guy?

  • he is still making CD's

  • he became a pop star.

  • well that's right for some reason he's playing some slow pop chords songs that I dont get conected to.

Hey anyone has the lesson 25 & 26 that's on this vid???

  • he became a musican, this is only shred. now hes doing really good songs, more rock, more blues, less shred. just that.

  • He was a musician before. Just a better genre. Listen to chype fluxx.

  • Kotz du sau!

  • xD wenn der wüsste was kotzen auf deutsch heisst^^....

  • Hes fine until he starts picking then it sounds sloppy. Good legato licks.

  • his pickings not that sloppy. I suppose youre reffering to the part that starts at :51. Sounds fine to me...

  • Yeah!!!

  • kotzen is the german word for 'to puke', a fact which has no bearing on the man nor his playing.

  • imho he REALLY "pukes" when he plays...he pukes tons of gallons of notes per seconds...i think it's just enough to call it "puking"

  • spewing perhaps?

  • i will say....i like this guys playng more than vais and its because i hate vais weird noises...if vai wrote more stuff like eugenes trick bag he would be awesome but until that i think Kotzen is a guitar mastaaa

  • when guitarist get this good its just about the songs the have wrote.. this guys playing is amazing tho

  • muy srio, nada como la basura de michal angelo

  • Ritchie,...best intro in reh video

  • geez! what time is kotzens train he's got catch! he's playing like hes in some sort of mad rush!! lol

  • idk about him being better then vai, but richie is a damn good player.

  • Richie is so much better than Vai. I don't wanna sound like an asshole but Richie is one of the best in the world.

  • I prefer Vai as a player but Ritchie is certainly more technical and just as versitile.

  • oh the 80's

  • post more rock chops videos

  • richie doesn't use whaamy nor tapping nowadays but he was a killer concerning those technics. and he was so young. his evolution his great but his shredder things were great too. everything seems to work with this guy. My favorite musician of all time.

  • pretty "vai-ish" at some points. but richie is one hell of a player, dammit! i dig his stuff more than vai's, especially his vertu stuff.

  • If I'm not mistaken he recorded this video in 1989 before Vai's Passion and Warfare was released worldwide. And Ritchie was like 19 at the time. He has a style all his own. I think there is a better improv solo at the end of this video that should be here on youtube but no one has put it up. I have it but I don't know how to upload VHS stuff. He has this song called " Chyppe Flux" on the guitars that rule the world cd that is one of the most technicnally sound tracks that I've ever heard.

  • fuck it, im buying some bobbin topper pickup stickers so i can make my pickups pink and green as well

  • AMAZING. best parts are at 1:18-1:30. WOW

  • what an exquisitive beautiful feeling..kind of reminds me george lyinch in a way...shred with feeling omf what a beautiful thing..

  • someone put some other fuckin clips of that mofo on here!

  • puta mare que ricoo feeling !!

  • man his whammy tech is killer for that day in age...

  • i agree..ritchie is amazing and even greater nowadays....but holdsworth did thosethings in the late 60's:)

  • dude this guy kicks! those are some slippery licks! I MUST NOW GO ON A QUEST TO GET ALL HIS INSTRUCTIONALS!

  • un verdadero guitarrista ningun gil¡¡¡¡un capo¡

  • back on topic...

this vid gets better every time i c it. kotzen is an underrated motherfucker.

  • shane gibson is well ... kinda boreing ... but hey thats just me ok

  • that intro solo sucks, shit tone, but the outro solo is better. check out the nutty, shredder's most wanted, shane gibson aka Mr. Stork

  • i hate it when people sell an image...

  • this kotzen guy is good...well..he's okay..not that its because he's not fast...even though he is..he's just well an amateur

  • this is almost 20 years ago if not more... he's gotten a lot better needless to say haha. An incredible player, and classy too. It's just too bad his recent stuff is shitty rock

  • haha, dude u tripping if u think kotzen is a amateur.

  • he's amazing, there should be a fifty foot high golden statue of him in every capital city, and other large cities. And people would hve to kneel by it 3 times a day.

  • 18 years old... big!!

  • dave sharman sucks, check out shane gibson, not just a bunch of licks, but a real compositional shred master.

  • Mate, ur a dickhead n u obviously know nothin about guitarists, Dave Sharman was voted guitar god in waiting by guitar 4 the practising musician mag which is one of the biggest in the usa, stop speakin shit, go listen to the guy properly instead of this crap on u tube, u even heard a proper DS album?

  • download RICHIE KOTZEN 100% YOUNG GUITAR COMPLETE VIDEO AND WITH THE TABS HERE:

    0 n l y s h i t.m u l t i p l y.c o m/j o u r n a l

  • aaa hahahahahahahaha v funni!

  • this game would be better if it was a richie kotzen game haha

  • I had the pleasure of seeing him in small clubs when he was like 17 or 18 years old. A rare talent. No doubt in my mind then that he was going to be a star. The cat can shred.

  • Wish there was some live Electric Joy stuff, that is one of the best guitar albums ever.

  • That introduction bit would have been so much better if it wasn't actually him saying: "This would be so much better if it were a Richie Kotzen game"

I thought that was pretty weird.

  • Richie was ultimate in 80's , totally different approach. a weird arppegios

  • wippy fuckin do you seen one you seen em all

  • i believe he was 20yo. monster!

  • his style is was so different than now!! people get more musically mature with the years... i like more his early style

  • yet to mature eh?...lol

  • lol
