Oh, man! I remember when this was a big hit in the early 1960s. My parents were sharecroppers. We moved away from the farm in August 1964. But this song told the truth about our life at that time. You don't really know what it means to be busted until you're broke and you don't know anyone who isn't broke.

Ray did get busted for H here in Boston Logan Airport back in 65. I am glad I got to see one of his last concerts on the Charles River ,Boston back in 95. Of course he played this song. As this song plyed the harbor master busted these college kids for having to many people in a boat and drinking beer on the river! It was ausome I wished I had videoed it !!!

"Busted" was written by country music songwriter Harlan Howard in 1962. It was a hit for Ray Charles and for Johnny Cash. It was also covered by Nazareth. That was the first version that I knew. I didn't know it was a cover until I heard the Ray Charles version on public radio.
