knowing what i know from msx1 hardware, and knowing TI99/4A has so close hardware (maybe the same), this game could be hugelly better, maybe even close to the arcade original (of course, with some glitch noises from the hardware limitation in 'text' (pattern) mode): watch?v=NUU_F9TvXco
@nitturo TheTI99/4A uses the same graphics and sound chips that were used in MSX and the Colecovision. However the TI99/4A used a different CPU. MSX and Colecovision both use an 8 bit Z80 while the TI99/4A used a 16-bit TMS9900. And of course the memory addresses where the chips were located on all three machines were all different. With some code editing MSX and Colocovision software can be converted to work on each other, this isn't possible with the TI99 because the CPU is different.
I feel that this is Atarisoft's weakest effort on the TI. The audio is good, but the graphics and animation are poor. I suppose the gameplay is passable though. Thanks for the video.
I sort of agree with you on this: you have to press the joystick up to increase the speed of your racer (press down to slow down, of course). The fire button is your gear shift. The up and down motion of the stick doesn't work well on sharp areas of the track where you must gear down and/or brake (there is no brake button on this version).
Atarisoft was supposed to have released this title for the ColecoVision in 1984, but that didn't happen due to the video game crash. This version is as close as the CV version would get...
I like the way the wheels jig up and down in the car's animation.

The TI was never developed for the gaming market..More on the lines of scientific and educational ...
That's why it was never a hit with kids...
