Everyone always says something stupid about Marky. All he's saying is that he can do other stuff, he never said he's better. And it's not easy with the cymbals, some drummers can't keep up, especially if they played like Loco Live and hardly pauses. Down strokes are not easy either, at one point you get tired and wanna go up and down. Fuck all you haters
Saying the heavy metal drummers cant do that? Has he ever heard of a blast beat, it's the same wrist motion as he's doing on the cymbals, but Metal drummers do it with both hands, for the cymbals and snare.
He actually is full of it yes it takes stamina to play that way but any seasoned punk musician can play that shit.. And im a guitar player btw... My drummer rips that dude... And if i got to downstroke the whole time in the songs i write or we play, it would be lame... Cool for them ya know but itd be lame.. Their music was as simple as it gets straight up but kudos to them they did their thing and i like them.. If u think im bs goto my page and peep my band
@GSTchecque Im playing the ramones on drums, and really you need to be in perfect condition :D,and after couple of songs I can take a shower with my swet :D xD
I love how the The Ramones never speak shit, they are straight up and to the point. They say exactly what they are thinking and I respect that alot, how often do you see people, especially famous people speak that way?
finally someone (the great Marc Bell himself :D) tells the truth about the fact the ramones songs are actually hard to do...but then I suppose that's the sign of true genius (that you make something difficult look easy)...and the downstrokes thing, yeah, feels like my wrist is gonna come apart after a while of doing that...these guys were talented and skilled, no doubt about it...
First off how do you steal someones girlfriend? That is other than throwing a pillowcase over her head and tossing her over your shoulder? She obviously was not stolen, she had to at some point also want him. Besides they weren't even going out at the time. Also, How can you call someone a jackass when you obviously hate people for their political beliefs?
I've been watching the End of the Century on an extended cable channel and I can't get enough of them. The best rock and roll band ever! Even better than the Stones! It doesn't matter if I am from originally from Queens.
He don't mean they can't do it, he means that they can't do it for 30 songs in 1 hour and 20 minutes straight. Just like Johnny's guitar playing, it's very hard on your wrist. The same goes for Clem, he was a good drummer but more of a pop/jazzy kind of guy, too soft. One of the two shows he played is avalible as a bootleg, and you can tell he's exhausted and starts fucking up early. Remember, it's 16 notes on the hi-hat, not the usual 8. Which is what many bands playing Ramones covers miss.
yea i'm a drummer, and i find it very hard 2 keep the steady sixteenths on the hi-hat when playing ramones songs, i guess that's wat made tommy, marky, and richie unique. noone can play it like they did.
Tommy didn't mention how difficult it is to stay in time through an entire tune when playing at the Ramones tempo. Some drummers can do it for about 15 seconds, but then it falls apart.
These guys have such a good sense of humor too...Marky: 5:26..."if you can get that Juilliard graduate to do that, he would get tired...and say, 'What the fuck are they doing, How do they do this??'..."...Ahh shit..lmao..
I totally lost it lauging my ass off when Joey said "I don't know if I respect him...." (Regarding Springsteen)...lol. These guys are funny.. Especially Dee Dee.
I have endless discussions with musicians that keep saying that Ramones is easy to play, and is crap music, and that is this and that is that.I would like to see those conservatorium kids who can play really dificult classic parts, playing one Ramone song ( but then at the age of 48) Long live the Ramones and thank you for the music.
So true about the drumming and guitars and endurance/stamina...and Dee Dee could do some downstrokes on the bass also full tilt. Forget Hip Hop Abs - fat women trying to lose weight should just get a drum set and play Ramones songs for 2 hours each day.
Richie was probably thier best drummer to be honest, if you havnt heard him you should get the "Ramones-Return to london" LP. its insanley fast, an d he still plays 8th notes.
who was that dj? he was fucking terrible. you have fucking joey ramone in your measly studio, shut up and let him talk we dont care what you think hot dog man.
PT-boat on the way to Havana I used to make a living, man Pickin' the banana. Now I'm a guide for the CIA Hooray for the USA! Baby, baby, make me a loco Baby, baby, make me a mambo Sent to spy on a Cuban talent show First stop- Havana au go-go I used to make a living, man Pickin' the banana Hooray for Havana!
Mark's demo was cool. His work in early metal band Dust (around 1970) had that heavy drumming. He's had an interesting career, voidoids, misfits. As for Johnny's playing, for me its not so much the downstokes (right hand) but the left hand, holding down nothing but barre chords for an hour and a half. that kills, i dare anyone to try that cold... you won't make it past the 3rd or 4th song.
I agree, it's hard. But... You can't say that noone will make it past 3rd or 44th song... If you are a skilled guitar player you can do better than that... Johnny Ramone played the same style over and over againg for almost twenty years, if you do that to, you will do it better...
No, of course you're right, and I can go maybe 15 songs or more (with pain!). Marky made the point too about gradually increasing endurance. But I wrote that no one can do it "cold"... Like Marky said, get a Julliard (sp?) bloke playing like Yngvie Malmsteen and I don't think he'd get far playing along to Loco Live...
Yeah! I met Dust's bassist, Kenny Aronson, when I was out at this blues jam type show, and told him his solo on the song "suicide" was one of my favorite bits in any song... he was happy to hear it,and hugged me, lol. I'm not sure how many other people there were familiar with that part of his career.
Everyone always says something stupid about Marky. All he's saying is that he can do other stuff, he never said he's better. And it's not easy with the cymbals, some drummers can't keep up, especially if they played like Loco Live and hardly pauses.
