I had actually never seen rent before this, it was honestly amazing and I would of never heard of it if it weren't for glee! I don't understand why some people think glee ruins these song because they sing them amazingly and they introduce the younger generation to great musicals, movies and people!

Instead of comparing the song to the original, just be happy that Amber and Lea did the song justice. The writers need to have these two do more duets together. That's my five cents.

This was used as a Diva Off because Mercedes and Rachel were going for each other's throats, and it's a breakupish song which would be hard to find its way into Britana given how strong their relationship is (although I guess around the time this song was sung, Brittany was with Artie iirc, so I guess it could have worked then).

Sorry, both Amber and Lea have great voices, but they didn't do a good job on this. I may be a diehard Rent fan but it's the same with Glee to me. @lvhmsgirl96 It's from RENT. It was on Broadway for years and was also made into a movie. I'm not sure who originally sang it on Broadway, but in the movie it was Idina Menzel (Maureen) and Tracie Thoms (Joanne).
@Dixiepeachez13 Idina Menzel sang it originally on Broadway. Fredi Walker played Joanne though. The actors of Mark, Collins, Angel and Maureen were both on Broadway and the movie, the rest was re-cast for the movie if I can remember correctly.
I love this version, don't get me wrong, but I do think Rent is better. I think glee takes out the whole actual lesbian meaning of the song. Just my opnion.

@lvhmsgirl96 It's from RENT. It was on Broadway for years and was also made into a movie. I'm not sure who originally sang it on Broadway, but in the movie it was Idina Menzel (Maureen) and Tracie Thoms (Joanne).

@Dixiepeachez13 Idina Menzel sang it originally on Broadway. Fredi Walker played Joanne though. The actors of Mark, Collins, Angel and Maureen were both on Broadway and the movie, the rest was re-cast for the movie if I can remember correctly.

I love this version, don't get me wrong, but I do think Rent is better. I think glee takes out the whole actual lesbian meaning of the song. Just my opnion.

im not trying to piss anybody off here but i think based on the more recent episodes mercedes has lost some of the qualities that made people love her and it just basically turned into whining but rachel even though gets controlling and supper annoying had always owned up to what she was and thats what i respect and why shes my favorite of the two
