ESPN equals retarded, when it comes to hockey. Gretzky had seasons where he scored more than 90 goals. His second last season he scored 40 goals. Ovie will never catch Gretzky. If you count his WHA goals (same level as NHL) Gretzky had over 1000 career goals.

altough some great scorers do also tend to fight, take Iginla, Thornton, Getzlaf and Lecavalier for example

but you are right people like ovechkin and crosby are not to be judged by their (lack of) fighting but by their scoring skills which is the best in the leauge

Like I explained in another video.. You fight because of 2 reasons:

1.Momentum.

2. Frustration.

Where do you think Crosby fits?

And if his way of getting momentum is by fighting, in his superstar status, then I don't admire him at all!

Taking 10 penalty minutes in the last period is NOT the way to win.. Way to go Crosby!

Those other figures you presented, they fight for the REASON, and they know when and how to do it.

It's obvious you've never seen Lemieux play, goal scorers can be fighters. Lemieux is the only player to score more points than the most assists gretzky recorded in a single season. So the second greatest scorer in hockeys history was a fighter nice try. What about Gordie Howe (801 career goals more than Crosby or Ovechkin will ever have), what was Gordie Howe hat trick again, a goal, an assist, and a fight.

I doubt it, that's averaging 40 goals per year over a twenty year career. It's just not likely, that's assuming he plays in the NHL till he's forty. Most pure scorers quit in their mid 30's. And to get a 1000 goals he'd have to average 50 goals per year over a twenty year career. If Gretzky had played in the NHL from the beginning of his career like Ovechkin did he would have had well over a thousand NHL goals so no Ovi doesn't compare.
