@HipHopkins09 Yeah I've seen some of those songs from that concert at the roundhouse and it was lame. I understand completely where your coming from. My favorite FZ records are stuff like Hot Rats, Grand Wazoo, Make a Jazz Noise Here, etc. Although the Q and A in the beginning seemed to be cool

@HipHopkins09 well the varese comparison is a little bit of a stretch but i still think of zorn as a modern day zappa of sorts. with the amount of genre shifting, prolificness, and overall quality of work, the comparison is understandable.

This was totally awesome! It's one of my compulsory listenings for a music course but I'll be sure to listen to these guys in my free time too. All the notes the sax player picked were great, but as a sax player I can't help but say that if he took out the tension in his neck/shoulder his sound would improve so much.

I got a Stalling CD (through Zorn's influence I started listening to that stuff again) and unbeknownst to me when I got it I found there was an essay at the beginning by Zorn . . . fine writer turns out

Over the years, Zorn went from being the most original American musician of his time to being the avant-garde's answer to David Sanborn. It's sad.

What's funny is that David Sanborn played on one of Tim Berne's albums, Diminutive Mysteries (Mostly Hemphill), a single recording whose virtues far exceed most of what could be found on John Zorn's 6 dozen albums.

By the way, Zorn was never the most original Ameican musician. With his recent composed work, I think he's finally starting to bloom out of his 'weird-for-the-sake-of-weird' po-mo bullshit period. The endlessly redundant Masada empire seems to be the funding for all that.
