@aphotog24 "Maybe enxt time promote Sedaris in the description?"
I guess you missed the link to where one can purchase his audiobook in the description box (not to mention everything I had to say about him in the video). Maybe next time you could pay attention.
Oh my god, it's not 6 to 8, it's 6 8 inchers. Saint Nike was touching those black boys! I know there was a reason I should be afraid of men in gowns and beards.
Funny story, but just a little rectification about germany/france : cocorico and kikeriki do not pronounce this way :)
and even if the children get their presents in the christmas evening (germany)/ night (france), most people dont go to church at all. French standard is a LOT of eating the whole evening, german standard is a 3 days celebration (24, 25 and 26). My point is, these customs dont make the celebration more religious, at all...
Thanks for that, Narsil. Quick note: it seems safe to say that he's more after comedy than complete accuracy vis-a-vis details. But I appreciate your sharing the information.
Im probably overreacting but I tend to do so about christmas in particular when one is reminded its so called "christian" origins... I celebrate it a secular way and its important to me because of family.
The uncertainty as to the number of black men might be intentional. A child might think they'd have a chance against six, but there could be as many as eight! The uncertainty builds fear.
When I was in the third grade, I remember participating in a project that required us students to learn about Christmas traditions and Santas of other countries. I guess we never got around to learning about the slave-owning, child-beating Santa of the Netherlands.
Yeah, the Dutch have done a fairly good job keeping him on the down low, it seems. The first I learned of the whole tale was when I read Sedaris's story. I thought I knew about St. Nicholas and, at first, suspected he was making it up for comedic effect. But it's all true. lol
Wow! I've never heard of a girlfriend making off with a guy's best t-shirts. What's that all about, Cadicus? Well, at least you can buy a new copy of "Me Talk Pretty One Day." Sorry about those shirts though.
KUDOS! This is outstanding, great job on the video, Professor :) I literally laughed out loud at several of the pictures as they relate to the stories...

"if you are a professor you need to know that this isn't dutch christmas"
I'm aware of that. Mr. Sedaris's, which I was reading, makes that clear.

Yeah sure this is comedy, and good one.

I feel the same way about Christmas.

I especially like the onomatopoeia... I mean, cock-a-doodle-do? Really? Wow.
Spatzenzunge 4 years ago
Oh dear, it is just not the same without David doing the reading. Nice to get the Sedaris word out, though. People--try to hear the real deal!
Hobokampp 4 years ago
Oh, I agree. Mr. Sedaris does a far better job with his own material, but I did my best.
ProfMTH 4 years ago
That's all one can do, then.
Hobokampp 4 years ago
Indeed. Best for everyone to keep that in mind: the importance of the best presentation of self.

hey! Sinterklaas does NOT beat children.
The Zwarte Pieten (black Petes) do that. And since they are not slaves anymore they are now suppposed to be black from climbing through the chimney.
Madrid (Spain) used to be as abroad as you can get.
And Sinterklaas was here before Santa Clause!
So there! Naughty boyMTH has to get spanked!

This was really, really funny. Sedaris is laugh out loud funny always.
I used to have "Me Talk Pretty One Day<" but an old girlfriend stole it, along with all my best t-shirts.
