Yea, if you ever watched Life After People, the TV series, it shows how powerplants shut down after it has no maintnence for quite a while. But as of the Hoover Dam powerplant, it can continue to run for as long as Hoover damn has water and the plants remain functional. They say up to a few years that the Hovver Damn powerplant could last.

Nuke powerplants can run for atleast a couple of weeks I think without much maintenece but they would shutdown

yes you are right then the diesel backup would kick in then 3 days later the spent fuel would burn the plant down,,,,coal plant would last a few hours then the backup for 3-4 day......
