Gene Simmons ruined the band. Now he claims that Ace Frehley had nothing to do with what KISS became.He even stoops low enough to call Ace a Nazi. As a Bass player, he at best mediocre. He couldn't touch Geddy Lee on Bass.. Gene needs to just disappear for good. Gene turned me against KISS years ago.

Denny Sanders!!! I grew up listening to him in Cleveland on WMMS, and I remember this interview. I was 11 years old and a huge KISS fan. I am a member of the KISS Army to this day!!! I made my parents and sisters watch this interview, and I distinctly remember my Dad saying "Aww, this is garbage!" Fast-forward to today, I got a text from my Dad recently and he was praising Gene Simmons for all the work he's doing on behalf of our American soldiers around the world! Hahaha!!! Classic...

It's simply amazing that you can pretty much take any interview with Simmons from any era of KISS - 70's, 80's, 90's, etc. - and they are all practically carbon copies. It's so repetitive and predictable. To me, Gene is a very bright guy and I think he has a lot to say about many different things. The difference in Gene's attitude is not his arrogance or fame or riches. It's the cultural impact that he himself was a part of. In this interview, KISS were still rebels; Gene was still arrogant and narcissistic, but approaching it from an angle of being OUTSIDE the establishment - today, Gene and KISS *ARE* the establishment, so his attitude has morphed accordingly.
Funny how Kiss was SO great, then actually thought that they could hang without the makeup. Kiss was the experience. Once the makeup was gone, Gene thought the band could survive on the talent level alone.. Sorry Gene, you can't cut it as a bass player LOL!! Gene has always been a very good speaker. He's quite intellectual. This interview, I think, is telling how humble he was back then. They had hit it big by then but were still young. Today, he's a lot more involved with business outside of the band is more cocky. Of course, he's older, has a family, and is set for life. He's paid his dues and can afford to be cocky. I'm not criticizing, just making an observation.
I agree ACE is a one of a kind. Tommy IS by far a better guitat player than Ace Tommy can play songs from ALL KISS era's Tommy played about 95% of Ace's parts on Pysho Circus. And Tommy had to reteach ace how to play his riffs on the renuion tour. Look I'm a huge KISS fan and I love ALL KISS. ANd no one can ever replace Ace. But remeber this Ace chose to not come back after the Farwell Tour.

If i were that guy interviewing gene, I"d get him to sign all those kiss magazines and put them all in a safe and don't open till when the originals all got back together in the reunion tour and sell them and keep one. The one gene looked at i belive is the one with their blood in the paint. I had one a long time ago in the 70's.

Gene has always been a very good speaker. He's quite intellectual. This interview, I think, is telling how humble he was back then. They had hit it big by then but were still young. Today, he's a lot more involved with business outside of the band is more cocky. Of course, he's older, has a family, and is set for life. He's paid his dues and can afford to be cocky. I'm not criticizing, just making an observation.

I agree ACE is a one of a kind. Tommy IS by far a better guitat player than Ace Tommy can play songs from ALL KISS era's Tommy played about 95% of Ace's parts on Pysho Circus. And Tommy had to reteach ace how to play his riffs on the renuion tour. Look I'm a huge KISS fan and I love ALL KISS. ANd no one can ever replace Ace. But remeber this Ace chose to not come back after the Farwell Tour.

Very interesting video. Right around 3 minute mark, you can tell Gene is taken back by the success of the comic books. And it seems like he is starting to understand that the fans are becoming true die-hards. Great vid!
