  • First day i was there i ate at the burger place right near the station and other than that i would walk down the street with my classmate (yeah one) to get my lunch.

  • HAH Soo get thiss!!! I've watched your videos since before i went to japan for the month of July. And while i was in japan i went to the same language school as you for about 3 weeks. I have my member card but can't read the sensei name sorry. Man i wish I would of known you were around there.

  • I used to live near Iidabashi, near Korakuen. There was a gaijin-house called Orchid house and that's where I lived. That was back in the mid 90s. I had so much fun living there.

  • ohh you are so annoying

  • lol, you remind me so much of Tom Green.

  • Oh my gosh please tell me you didn't get seen in that yellow suit by anyone!

    Itadakimasu, baby!

  • oh I forgot another thing: customer service...very nice.

  • hmm Japan for me was "meh".. I mean I loved it from afar and it didn't really disappoint but...there was just a....not a great feeling about it...not a great energy...these types of things are intangible...I dunno the I just found the energy not that great. I liked Tokyo best...things I liked best: Tokyo station, convenience store snacks, the hot drink/coffee in a can vending machines, Kirin beer, the shinkansen, japanese girls, Tokyo style..

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the piano music in this video? I think it's from Amelie but I really like it and it's bugging me because I can't find out what it is.....thanks

  • @goldghoti the song is from Amelie. i love this song!! i can't remember the name of it but you will definitely find it if you put in the piano song from Amelie.

  • @goldghoti the title of the track is Comptine d'un Autre Ete - L'Apres Midi

  • I already made the decision of living in Japan when i'm older :3 Just gotta learn Japanese though :3

  • haha

    ahhh i love this video

  • my one and only dream is to be a doctor in Japan.

  • that's a nice dream to have, but why a Japanese doctor? Is there something about Japanese doctors I am missing or is it just the (frankly awesome) combination of being a doctor and life in Japan that you like?

I agree, that would be nice, I'm biochemist though :D

  • Pretty much. I love the different culture there and being a doctor has always been my goal.

  • yeah, me too. I wanna be move to Japan and be a geneticist, which means a lot of study but it'll be worth it :D. Maybe I will study there, see how I like it before I decide to move permanently

  • Its amazing how most self proclaimed comedians are humourless..

  • seeking japanese residents.. im a 20 year old male from canada, looking to go back to japan to the country I love, I can pay for my flight out to japan but can't really afford the accommodation. Looking for a japanese male around my age I can stay with and hangout with, show me around and educate me further on your culture, I will do the same on my part in return.

  • @liquidchill You are a rapist.

  • only when it comes to dogs and farm animals

  • @liquidchill hehe

  • while you were eatting your child head i was eyeing a Mcdonald behind you ;) I WANTO LIVE WHERE U LIVE! lol no not your house...japan :)

  • the way you slurp up soba is perfect! Have you ever had teuchi-soba? if not, try it. it is a handmade soba with using a springwater. you can have soba restaurant serves it wherever great springwater is found.

  • You're amazing and talented on making videos Kevin, and i know it wasnt as easy as people think to be there, you're da man ;). Hope we can drink some coffee together sometimes, im coming there in a few weeks again to record some songs. Have a good 2010 mate. Achemasite omedetoo!

  • Take your time learning the language, from what my friend has taught me, there are three forms of Japanese...

Hiragana, Katakana, Kanji, and Romaji. So say you were typing a paper, the keyboards in Japan have a button you press once. You type in Romaji and out comes Hiragana. There's also a button that puts the extra something in a certain symbol, I forgot what my friend said it was.

  • ramen ftw

  • I LOVE Iidabashi! The Tokyo Youth Hostel used to be located on the top two floors or the station building there. They had an awesome bath; all black marble, and one whole wall was glass, with a view of Shinjuku in the distance.

  • hah, I like your videos, they're funny!

  • your background music is so familiar? is it from Yann Tiersen?

  • LOVE the vids kevin :D

  • Anybody saying his lucky... He's not!!!! You people are so annoying he worked to get where he is right now. Nobody is just gunna come up on the street and be like" wanna go to japan and live?" if you really wanted to go to japan you could, you just need to be determined!

  • Thank you. Its nice to know somebody out there gets that.

  • wow, you do reply!

  • @tokyocooney Similar to my story. I don't know how long it took you, but for me it was like:

"I want to go to Japan!"

    5 years later

"Hello Tokyo!" ... Most sushi is the same as my favorite sushi shops in USA except in Japan nobody talks to you...

  • @tokyocooney Yeah, Im determined to live in Japan after ive passed my computergamesdesign degree at Abertay Uni.

  • @suramour could of not said it better myself. Right now i am in college and working on getting a degree after college. Then i will find a job in japan and start living their.

  • @suramour

    thanks

    thats what im aiming for

  • @suramour Well luck can be perceived in many different perspectives. Of course I know that he must've worked hard in order to get where he is now but I still see him as lucky because of his opportunity to do so. I, who envy and worship Japan, know that I will never have the chance to go to Japan because of my physical ties to family here. Not everyone has that opportunity, so yes, indeed, I do see him as "lucky"

  • @suramour So true, you have to work your best to get to where you want to be.

But I would have to disagree with 'nobody is jus gonna come up and ask u' part. Luck is certainly real and so is random luck like finding a bag full of $ in it.

I watched a Japanese TV show where some American girl was LITERALLY just asked to come to Japan, jus out of nowhere. Although she is a infamous Youtube vlogger (I think it was Magi-something). They literally walked up to her house and was asked to come to Japan

  • @suramour sorry dude, but it's actually pretty easy to go to Japan, China, Vietnam etc and teach English, I know because I did it for 2 years (in China). The first step takes courage, but after that it's a breeze. I'd definitely recommend it to people.

  • @suramour I think your overexagerating things wayyy to much. This is coming from an immigrant who came here with no knowledge of the language or culture and it wasn't that hard.

Plenty of loser white dudes go to Asian countries to teach english (which requires no effort at all) sometimes they don't even check if you have a degree or not and just hires you as long as your white. When they are there, they are treated like Kings. Unlike Asians who have to work there asses off in Western nations

  • @KoolJayJ okay, maybe it's not as hard for some people, but that still doesn't mean that he's "lucky" which is what the comment is addressing. whatever -shrug-

  • @suramour

    I second that.

  • you ever realize how lucky you are?

  • omg i wanna go now T_T

    japan!! JAPAN! JAPANNN~!

  • instead of pumpkin paste they should put strawberry jelly so it would looks more like blood lol

  • haha you had a ramen coma

  • RAMEN POWER!!

  • My absolute favorite video you've posted, Iidabashi looks so peaceful and nice, good music selection also.

  • @imfbeo: it is not considered impolite to slurp soba noodles, and in fact many people do it because, traditionally, this was a way to express interest in and gratitude for the food.

It's a shame that 7 people could take the time to mark down your comment, but none of those jerks could actually answer your question.

  • @johnfactorial: You're right about that slurping soba noodles is not considered impolite in Japan. But it's not because this is a way to express interest in or gratitude for the food. We are not allowed to slurp soup or any other food except noodles.

There is a good reason for that. Slurping up noodles fast would allow you to simultaneously have noodles with some soup in one, and especially for soba, to enjoy the aroma of buckwheat.

  • @akaharahitori Interesting! Thanks for that information!

  • if you ever watch ponyo by hayao miyazaki (studio ghibli), there's a scene here the girl ponyo does exactly the same over a hot bowl of ramen. please make a video of the studio ghibli museum...pretty please..

  • interesting use of donny hathaway. i love that man.

  • Oh mannnn hot towels. I miss those...

  • lol i was eating ramen while eating the video and all of a sudden he starts eating ramen too =)

  • Pasta is very good only Italy!

In the rest of the world it is orrible!

  • i like ramen better too hehe

  • There are some nice spots around Higashi-Ginza & even Roppongi Hills...even near Nerima Ward=b....

  • Soba noodle wo slurp shimashita ka?

  • Yay music from Amelie Poulain!

  • man i wanna go to japan.....=(

  • Comment removed

  • Idabashi does sound like a peaceful, as well as a traditional, area in Tokyo, even though, like you mentioned as well, it's slowly losing it's charm of how it used to be.

Awesome video, though. You seem very happy, haha

  • I've heard that in good taste in japan is to put portions of food as a whole pieces like sushi and stuff without bite a piece off chew it and then bite again.

I would like to see that trick with this gigantic thing... ▲

    ▲ ▲

  • My favorite part of eating ramen... Drinking the broth.

  • MADNESS !! No THIS IS SPARTAAAAAA!! o-o

  • You need a katana and a trident to eat that thing =D

  • You always seem so lonely in your videos. Doing everything yourself :D

  • We totally stole your favourite places in Iidabashi over the last two days after watching your vlog! cheers, Janeto & Sharon.

  • Your videos make me larf. Good work!

  • That video was sweet. Enjoyed the tour of the cool places. The eating of the kids head was good stuff.

  • I LOVE YANN TIERSEN :D hahah french music for french town, I get it :)

  • you should be on the travel channel already! lol :D

  • at the beginning i thought u were going to say you were gay haha sorry ur awesome

  • u eat noodles like a true asain, i commend you!

  • It's so intense.

  • I really, really love this one. The music is soooo beautiful. Very nicely done.

  • @_@ its the second time so far you've used music from the Amélie soundtrack but this time it hit me.. you look like Nino Quincampoix from the movie <3 .. omfgwtfbbq hes so cute T_T

  • ze frenchie rule!

  • i can see my university!!

    that huge building :D

    hosei university.

and ive been to this cafe few times.

    its great place!

  • madness !

    no, THIS IS SPARTA!

  • Wow, I just have to say this.

I thought my musicplayer had exidently started because I was listening to "Comptine d'Un Autre Etre" before I watched that video... wierd.

  • dude i got the shit scared out of me Comptine d'Un Autre Etre is what my piano teacher is teaching me and i was like holy fuck what he is in my house NOOOO!!!!!

  • BWAHAHAHA! that must have been freeky ;OD

  • I remember being around some parts of that area and around Ebisu and thinking, man, some of these streets look really French. I thought it was just my imagination. Holy crap that dumpling is crazy, I would buy some pre-made dumpling wrappers to go along with that cause it would be a lot of meat to deal with. You have mad noodle eating skills.

  • Forcefully raising a currency?! Are you crazy? By doing that Korea would by increasing the cost of manufacture and the cost of sale. LG, Samsung and Daewoo would record massive loss, not to mention it's the whole reason we have stock markets. Government interferance in flucutating economies is dangerous at best. Nazi Germany tried it and we saw massive inflation. You wanna have to have three people carry lumps of cash just for a loaf of bread?

  • Well inflation is perminently destined to rise, so the future of money is most lkely ganna be predominately digital.

  • So pumpkin patch kids? I guess cabbage patch kids weren't too far off...

  • thats a BIG dumpling!!! XD

  • how long did it take you to learn to read that stuff? dumplings hahaha

  • Haha love the vid man...also your tie is very funy!!!

  • dude the dumpling rant was awesome keep rockin tokyo cooney

  • men, Korean won keep rising if the govenment hasnt been trying to keep it down by relasing billions of dollars every year. High money value is not good. North Korean moeny was 4 times higher than Korea once.

  • Hey man dont worry about economy

every countri is bad now US, Jpn, Russia, Korea...

We have to join our forces to solve this rather than becoming bad-mouthed other countris right, :)

  • Hey bro what wrong with all the hatred toward Japan? What`s wrong w/ ya?

Korea rises Won value as same as Yen...I think that`s dream world. Even now Won is so cheap and Korea loses lots of money in export

Do you have some hatred toward Japan?

  • lol Don't you know that Korean nation's GDP is lesser than Tokyo'S GDP!?XD before raising your country's economy, I think your country might better stop your anti-japan education.

  • its childish to attempt to win this ''look im better than you!'' argument.

koreans and japanese are equal, both people ya know.

    hey cooney! love the video's!

  • actually no, the western world is ill informed so the wester world likes japan and hates all korea just for what north korea has done

  • what about Sony and Panasonic, both japaneese and make the 2 most high tech tvs avaliable, bravia and vierra

  • That was pretty insulting towards the french there at the beginning, but I really shouldn't be insulted as I'm French Canadian, Not French.

  • Re: the larger sized gyoza... obviously you have yet to meet Gal Sone on your travels there. :)

  • gazeboo. hehe so gay baby

  • Anpanman!

  • The sound of that train made me think there was a monolith in the area :0

  • That's some crazy slurping action.

  • i wanna move to tokyo~

  • lol i would eat that gigantic dumpling XD

  • id rather buy that mega dumpling instead of the $100 melon

  • is there halal-حلال chicken in japan

    4 muslims like me

  • There is a lot of halal in Sweden. There's many Muslims in Sweden.

  • japan not sweden

  • yeah I know. I said that if you want halal you can get a lot in Sweden. And i didn't really understood your weird comment...

  • Just noticed the gangsta jewelry tokyocooney. Awesome.

  • Can't dip that gyozilla into a tiny sauce dish. Probably need to pour the sauce over top...or better yet, dump it in a bucket of sauce and let it soak :P

  • This is what reminds me of heaven. :) I cant wait.

  • when are you going?

  • I must eat one of those GIANT gyoza! That thing is huge

    great vid as always cooney!

  • Their brain matter is sweet and delicious! hahahaha

  • 500 yen coffe!!! thas like £3.50 or $5.50 ish

  • оригинально

  • WOW! That is one huge fucking gyoza!!

  • Shhhh! I like ramen better. :D AWESOME

  • An absolut torture for Japanese living overseas having to see someone slurping on a delicious Soba!! And even Ramen!!

  • Because they have a school for French childredn in Iidabashi, that is why they have many French ppl there.

  • Nice Yann Tiersen insert...but it didnt make me think of japan though because of Amelie and Goodbye Lenin, instead Paris and Berlin. lol.

    Good song otherwise.

  • more Yann Tiersen :)

Comptine d'un autre ete: l'apres midi

didn't another vid of yours have la noyee?

  • And struck again by the ramen coma : )

  • what happened to #63?

  • It looks like you have mastered the fine art of eating Japanese noodles! :-) Now I'm hungry!!

  • Man the japanese always got the cool stuff >:(

  • Yeah.. just like

    Flashing spider ring!

  • I really love to see also something about "less famous" tokyo places!

    Thank you!

  • Well from what I have learned, when you slurp your noodles, it's a way of showing that you really injoy it, because long ago and even now when you slurp, it's a way of cooling off your food on the way in as fast as you can like inwardly blowing on your food. In other words eating it as fast as you can shows you love it.

  • OMG dude i love Comptine d'un Autre Ete l'apres Midi

i play piano and this song is on my account check it out

  • And I just noticed that those soba noodles are a different colour to the ones served at The Noodle Box. It's so nice to experience culture.

  • I have heard somewhere that when eating ramen (nudles, whatever), you must slurp, and if you dont it's considered kinda rude. My parents were in china once, and they heard similar things about eating messy means you like the food and thats "good" maners, does the same thing go for Japan? Is this true?

  • Its not considered rude, to not slurp. But it is definitely OK to do so. Its the properway to eat them... slurpping that is.

  • I've heard that slurping = giving your regards to the chef so tp speak, letting him know that it tastes good. However, never ever blow your nose!

  • Is it just me, or is the HD version lagging?

  • It's lagging for me too, but then again, I am downloading like 5 different torrents right now too lol.

  • ha! your way to eat soba is perfect. Almost like a Japanese.
