That is just an awesome tv show, the characters have all that human emotions and have to deal with it in a hard place, even with the bizarre situations.

I love the guy who plays JD simply because he loses himself in his character and does the most ridiculous things as this character, knowing fully that he is going to be on TV and millions of people are going to see him acting like an idiot. Brave guy. of course the show is just awesome.

Personally though, Kelso is my favorite. I always seem to root for the bad guy, because it always seems like he's the guy who needs me in his corner. They've always got a story that nobody wants to hear.

Janitor is awesome too, but they never really develop his story very far.

Kelso has that "Necessary Villain" thing going for him, a kind of 'lonely at the top' theme. They reveal it properly in a later episode, when Kelso finally retires, but it's always hinted at. He's this mean, heartless ogre who is sarcastic and rude and always ducking work, but he has a hard job.

Every decision he makes is for the hospital, and people hate him for it, and he just has to live with that.

Well, I guess it's hard to compare the two, they're both quite different.

Of course the janitor does have his own compelling backstory too, even if it isnt brought to clearly into focus in the series. He's sort of hiding from himself, acts all tough and confident, but really he's quite sensitive, and a little ashamed of his job. It's fun, but he's not a doctor, and maybe that's as close as he could actually get to the job he really wanted.

@Etimos Funny thing is Ken Jenkins is the total opposite of Kelso in real life. One of the nicest people ever.

@saix1498 But that's why I like Kelso's character. He seems evil, but he's really not, he'd be such a nice guy, but he's the coal-man in the belly of the beast, keeping the machine running with his own blood and sweat, and it just takes so much out of him that it turns him into a monster. He's cold and callous because it's the only way he can deal with being the one who has to make the unpopular decisions, the one everyone hates, because it's what has to be done.
