your braids came out amazing!!! please don't take this offensively but not a lot of caucasian women can braid hair but you are awesome!!!....and you have beautiful children by the way!
Good video, but u should use a different gel because thats locing gel for dreds, and it combines the hair together. Try the olive oil cream, its better and much healther for the hair!!!! :)
I have been trying for years on my little sisters and my daughters and I still can't cornrow. I am tired of paying ppl to do my girls hair so I hope watching your videos I will finally master this........THANKS I'M DETERMINE!
@claaaareeee - no it isn't the same. French braiding is done over hand (that is the HUGE difference) but also you add hair in from the sides. For cornrows you braid under hand and add hair to the middle. My cornrows are exactly the same as anyone elses cornrows, I just hold my hands differently when I put them in.
You are truly a inspiration. I like this way of corn rolling and I'm going to try this on my daughters hair. I tried the flat twist on my daughters hair and I was very impressed:). The more that I watch, the more I learn. Thank you!
Thank you for this video! i'm struggling to try learn how to cornrow my own hair/hairline and I've picked up some tips from you! You're an inspiration! I think its great that you took the time to learn to properly care for all the hair textures in your family! And all of your girls have gorgeous hair!
@peachyquween - The swim caps I use are from TYR.com the sleep caps are ordered from a woman in Canada, but I don't think she is selling them anymore. My friend and I have a hair blog and we are trying to find out about the sleep caps. If you follow our blog we might post something on there when we find out about the caps. We are also on facebook. The link is up in the description of this video.
OMG!!!! You are Good!! I absolutely love the style that you did. I'm going to bread my 2 years old daughter like that. Keep up the good work and may God bless you.
no, it doesn't take as long to do the braid when I am not trying to show/explain how to do it. But if you include the time to make the parts and comb out each section before I braid it, then yeah, it takes a long time!
i can braid but when i try to braid anybody's hair that is not long, i have problems at about the crown of the head with the ends of the hair from the front of the head coming out, or not getting tucked. what am i doing wrong???????
hi u must braid very well the way people comment your videos but i didnt get to see it maybe its just my computer but ill try again and comment later cause im just a begginner tryin to learn more
I love watching your videos I am so inspired to start braiding hair. Your daughters hair is beautiful i just want to go jump in the video and braid her hair haha. Love all you vids im addicted to watching you braid. Please post more videos even if its just of you braiding its very entertaining. Im still not sure when to add hair and exactly how.
I agree lame-It's great to see how much both of her daughter's hair have grown because she takes care of their hair so well. She's inspiring for all mothers of all children
u did good girl~and i was wonderin y u were using ur whole hands braidin like that seem un comfortable.but if that wat work for u and yo brainds come out lookin that good!ho head then!jus take a long time to do like that
Oh my how her hair has grown. I am loving the videos. Two questions if I may. What do you use on her hair and do you use anything at night to make it last. Thanks
HELLO!!!! I've been watching you tube vidoes and even bought a cornrow video and i get the technique HOWEVER my cornrows arent tight enough, but after watching your video and practicing on my daughter, YOUR TECHNIQUE IS THE BEST!!! My cornrows, using your technique, are much much tighter and after a few more practices i can achieve my goal and start to do sew in weaves. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH.
I'm really excited to try this technique because I've never heard of just adding hair to the middle strand! That sounds MUCH easier than adding hair to each side strand. I've tried cornrowing in the past, but i could never get them to lay flat, neat and tight. I hope this works :) thanks
Wow! katelynylyn thank you so much for this video. I sat down with my daughter's doll, watched your video and practiced until I could cornrows. I love all of your videos I was struggaling with my daughter's hair until I found your channel. Thank you so much and please keep making more videos. Although there are some people who have lost sight of the point of your videos there are lots of us who haven't. So please don't stop doing what you do.
I did not read on katelynylyn's info box, that she want's comments only giving her compliments. She is also not pre approving comments, therefore, I can write whatever opinion I want of her video here. I respectfully gave an opinion, unlike you that is using uppercase words to indicate yelling, which is rude. She is not obligated on changing her technique because I say that she is not doing cornrows a certain way. You took my comment to her in a personal way, u need 2 relax.
The braids look nice, but your technique is not the correct way to do cornrow. From carefully looking at this video and your other video on criss crossing, you are only adding hair when you cross over the left strand. It should be that you add hair to both strands, left and right. So the cornrow is attached to the hair from one side only of the row. If you would like me to send you a link with instructions or a video response let me know.
I don't really think there is a WRONG way to cornrow, just different techniques. I actually add hair to the middle strand not ever to the sides. The hair I grab spans the entire row, it does not come from one side or the other and I do two passes with the hair between each time that I add hair.
I have been braiding this way for years with great results.
BUT....
I would like to learn how to cornrow with my fingertips but every video I have ever watched really didn't explain HOW to do it. They all just say you need to use these three fingers and do this, then they start braiding and don't explain anything or show you step by step what to do. If you know of a good video. PLEASE share :)
I found two videos that may help you see how it's done. One person uses almost your same hand position to grab hair. Check out breezzalicious channel. The other video I found has a view from a different angle, sort of from the back and slightly under the braid, with the more common finger pinching position technique. Check ehow channel, How to Braid Cornrows : How to Create Basic Cornrows.
You say you grab hair every two passes. There is the difference of your technique. You need to grab hair for every pass. The technique you use works very well to make dutch crown braids.
You Nee To Quit Hatin On Her.. He Technique Is Correct If She Feels Like It Works For Her... She Did A Wonderful Job ALL Her Videos Her Daughter Hair Be Hella Tight And She Does It Herself!! She Could Be The Typical White Mom And Pay Some Young Black Girl To Do It... But NO She Learned And Saves Some Change In The Process!! A Cornrow Is A Cornrow... I normally don't comment on these things.. but great job on styling your daughters hair.. I read your profile and am glad you transitioned to coconut oil instead of gel. I actually need to learn to do my own corn rows and I like your technique. Thanks.
i was a little judgmental when i first saw a video you did but after reading your actual page I must applaud your commitment to doing your daughter's hair. her hair looks gorgeous and you are doing an awesome job. KEEP IT UP!!!
Very good job!! I love your video. And your daughter is so patient while you do her hair. I am going to try this on my sons hair. Thanks for the info. Hugs!!

hell yea when i went to DR for the summer this hatian girl braided my hair and my hair was only like 10 inches cuz im a guy.. and she did it sooooooo fast and good
haha awwe that was so cute when you said you were done and your daughter (that's your daughter, right?) got up with a sigh or relief. hahaha soo adorable
Thank you so much for this video! I bought a video on cornrows and looked at countless of videos using the traditional way of cornrowing and just couldn't catch on and the technique hurt my fingers. Watching this video made it easier for me and now I'm cornrowing! Im getting faster each time I do it. Like you said there are different ways to cornrow and everyone should use the method that works for them!
It is sooooo much easier doing this on someone else's head but for ppl like myself trying to do it on my own im going to need a crash dummy course and also a view like from the TOP of the head to see whats going on. Come on Katelyn show the dummies please.
Thank yhw soo much for postiin diiz viid.ii so needed iit. mii boiifrend wantz me 2 braid his hair but all ii can do iiz twiits and doo doo braiids.lol.thanx sooooo much.=)
shes making it sound more complicated than it needs to be. start doing a braid for a couple knots then add a small piece of hair to the middle string of hair and repeat again and again until you want to stop.
Can u post a vid showing a cornrow tutorial plz? With starts and stops and repititions cause doing this with ur own hair is a hassle and im just not catching it. I need a serious 'Cornrows for Dummies' course.
Is it ok to leave braids in for 2 months? It's been a month, and my braids are starting to come out, but they were braiding really tightly so they're not out completely. What will happen if I leave them in too long?
looks good but ur technique seem sooooo hard. i have been braiding hair since i was 11 years old. im gonna try it ur way just 2c if i can do it that way. her hair is really pretty.
Hi katelynylyn! I am a 40 yr old black woman who taught herself to cornrow at age 23. You and I cornrow the SAME EXACT WAY!! I had to teach myself, because neither my mom or other female relatives knew how/ever did it. I cornrow my own hair from time to time, but I never knew how to get the very beginning of the cornrow to look neat and sharp until I saw this. Thank you. Thank you for giving and treating our hair with respect. I don't know of any or many "others" that would do that.
your braids came out amazing!!! please don't take this offensively but not a lot of caucasian women can braid hair but you are awesome!!!....and you have beautiful children by the way!

Wow...that takes dedication...great job, and so much healthier than those harsh chemical treatments, especially with young children.

It is sooooo much easier doing this on someone else's head but for ppl like myself trying to do it on my own im going to need a crash dummy course and also a view like from the TOP of the head to see whats going on. Come on Katelyn show the dummies please.

I just get confused completely..
I really badly wanna learn, I can do French plaits which is similar but when i try this the plait gets all twisted and weird ¬_¬
xtinafan4444 3 years ago
shes making it sound more complicated than it needs to be. start doing a braid for a couple knots then add a small piece of hair to the middle string of hair and repeat again and again until you want to stop.

What will happen if I leave them in too long?
busymike 3 years ago
If you keep them in for too long they could lock, and the only way to remove them is by cutting the hair off.

I don't know of any or many "others" that would do that.

can someone tell me if its really necessary to braid under and not over and why?
Iluvmannyfresh 3 years ago
if you don't braid under it won't be a cornrow, it will be a french braid

I think she previously stated that she is her adopted daughter. Either way it's her daughter and she's doing a wonderful job.
