hamsters get stressed very easy so dont think its your fault if they do, simple things like changing cages or food can stress them out, if they get wet tail (diarria) go to the petstore and buy medicine asap. If you treat it before it gets bad the hamster will be fine
Hamsters dont poop in the ball when they are scared they poop wen they have to. And i they are used to the balls, which they are why would they be scared? And everyone gets scared and hamsters do to, doesnt shorten their lives. maybe your thinking of stress, hamsters get stressed out REALLY easy and when stressed they get wettail, Maple accually has wet tail right now, and it is fatal, but i have her on medicine and she is doing alot better, she isnt that serious, she just got a little stressed.
We would just like to inform all our fans that one of steffis hamsters, Minnie has died :( she had a tumor so she was at the vet and they said she wouldnt make it and she was in alot of pain so they euthanized her. she is in a better place now. keep hr in your hearts.

When the hamster poops in the ball, take the hamster out right away!! It means its scared, and your shortening its life when it gets scared
