  • Your voice is perfect for this. Great video.

  • I can't find the background music you speak of. :|

  • @ysa722 it's "Echoes" from the band Pink Floyd's 1971 album "Meddle".

  • @groundcat I meant that I found the vid of them performing "Echoes", but I couldn't find the specific part of the song that you used as background music. Anyways, I don't need it anymore XD Thanks, btw.

  • this is a well made clip and the tune is really creepy. good job

  • why is that all character in the stories are children died violently???

  • Edward Gorey is known for his macabre, creepy and off-kilter story. Some of his stories do deal with children who die young. It's just part of his writing style. If that's your sort of thing, you'll really smile at his books. If not, best to avoid it and stick with Harlequin romances. ;D

  • I don't understand the point of doing the Gashlycrumb Tinies this way. The pages flip by a little too fast and it sounds like it's being recited without much thought about the content...as if the lines are just being read normally for a school assignment.

  • I agree. The idea is good, but there's really no enthusiasm in the voice and it's being rushed way too fast.

  • @Neoklaki i like the voice

  • what is the background "music"?

  • Pink Floyd "Echoes" from their album Meddle.

  • Edward Gorey's exhibit: 'Elegant Enigmas' coming to an art museum near you. (McNay Art Museum in San Antonio through September 13, 2009) We took the family yesterday. Interesting art, a little twisted. The Wuggly Ump, The Tuning Fork, etc. Tony award winning costume designer. He also illustrated TS Elliot's 'Old Possum's book of Practical Cats' which later became the 'CATS' musical.

  • I went there just a couple of days ago! I thought his work was amazing! I truly adore him, he's my favorite artist.

  • I read this when I was very little, is this the same guy who wrote the velvet ribbon, and "in a dark dark forest"

They were in a scary story book, accompanied about a boy who meets people with very big teeth... Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • wow, creepy

  • So sad, brilliant and beautiful , great video o_+ !

  • I wish i could find a version of the Gashlycrumb Tinies read by Vincent Price, it would probably be my favorite vid of all time!

  • At the Gorey House Museum, here on Cape Cod, the Ghstlycrumb Tinies have been made into items in a scavenger hunt for you to look for throughout the home. For example, there are legs sticking out from under a rug for George!

    Lots of fun!

  • Gorey has a museum in Cape Cod NH?

    omfg

    I love there

    XDXD

    is

    it expensive to go?

    how wonderful!

  • That's Cape Cod, MA.

It's only $5.00 to get in

  • I know exactly where I want to go for a birthday event now!

  • Omg, Kate always scared the s*** outta me!

  • It's scary but really intruiging.

  • very good, groundcat! sis gave me this book for my birthday cuz gorey's my fave. nice to see it here.

  • Nice rendition of the poem and good choice for background music. :)

  • Great clip!

  • Awesome as always-Thank you Y-tube!!!!!!!

  • That's so creepy but I love it. You should listen to the song "A Gorey Demise" by Creature Feature. They used this book as a model. It's genious. I'm sure you can find it on YouTube.

  • This is fuckin cool i have one of his books and it is really weird but fun!!!

  • what a great cartoon, please check out my animation I did for the same story on my page, thanks!

  • Doesnt quite work in American, it needs a clear English accent really.

  • Why would it need an accent from England? Edward Gorey was born in Chicago and lived in the United States his entire life. In fact, he never even visited England. This is an American work, not an English work.

  • I dunno, it just doesnt seem to "work" in American, I dont know why, I just think it'd work better in a rich/stuffy English accent. If you've seen The Haunted Mansion movie, think Ramsley the butler... that sort of voice, just seems spookier.

  • But its set in victorian style , I dont know, I think it's designed for an english accent as well. That or Morgan Freeman, anything he speaks on turns to gold.

  • Just wanted to add that I recognized Pink Floyd's 'Echoes' immediately - and I wasn't even stoned at the time ! You may certainly be onto something here...

  • I can't believe I found this ! Thankyouthankyouthankyou! Neville and Desmond are my favorites. I waited until my boys were teenagers to share one of mom's most cherished books with them. They love Amphigorey. Yay!

Is that Pink Floyd in the background?

(A REAL horror compilation actually written FOR kids: the German classic 'Der Struwwelpeter.' Scared the s**t out of my boys - and me!)

  • It's frightenly horrific and yet fun at the same time like all of Gorey's works o_O...

  • i love the and i don't know y i thank it funny

  • I wish he wrote a movie

  • i am actually animating this excellent story.

it is pretty much done with the exception of the sound effects. i think you all will be quite happy with my work! (coming soon)

  • Yippee! I'll be first in line to buy a handful of tickets.

  • hehehehe wat a dreaded beautiful book... where is this from?

  • The Gashlycrumb Tinies by Edward Gorey. You can buy it as a book or it's also included in the compliation "Amphigorey"

  • i love this....hehehe made me smile

  • You have a nice reading voice. ^___^ Thats one of my favorite's. Thanks.
