  • That was awesome! What a great little slice of history. Not the kind of thing you'd see on a History Channel program about the war. Glad someone felt this "mundane" moment was worth putting on film. Thanks for sharing!

  • I liked the part at 1.36 where the guy was using a knife to eat the rations right out of the can and he accidently cut his tongue off.. and he ran around screaming in agony and fear with blood spewing out of his mouth all over everyone and their lunch. That was my favorite part of it!

  • FANTASTIC video thanks for posting it

  • When I watch this vid I picture my grand-father and all his war buddies having some chow before a battle. RIP Nono Vincent

  • man when you are hungry you 'll eat anything

  • WWII fork is your knife :D

  • that guy eating with his knife...

    that's cool.

this makes me happy because they looked so happy..

    :/ WARS SUCK.

  • I wish I can find a photo of what chef boyardee rations cans looked like he was the largest ration supplyier to the U.S. and To our Alies,,he signed a contract with the army and navy to pack C and K food rations to the troops,,wish I can find a photo of what chef boyardee ration cans looked like,,

  • @Dolphindream15

what did they primarily can? there usual products they can today?

  • really puts a human face to it all.

  • this almost looks fake from its reality

  • they look so happy and peaceful :P

  • @YumeWire = agreed, its so sad the war had to happen in the first place

  • man it looks like they really love those beans. makes me want some beans all of a sudden too.

  • Interesting to see how a simple can of C-RAT pork and beans can replenish the morale of soldiers at war.

    Great video.

  • man FLPatrick i am actually eating a c ration while watching this it has crackers, cofee, sugar, cofee creamer, beans in tomato soup,3slices of ham, chocolate covered cookies they gave me 2 spoons some napkins and wonder why they gave me matches lol

  • the matches are for lighting your farts from eating the beans lol.

  • instant favorite. never seen footage of c rations!

  • Incredible footage. Thank you for sharing.

  • Looks tasty...but messy XP

  • Man those were some messy rations they got.

  • i thought ham and beans was the most revolting item in the C-ration

  • Combat soldiers or air crew mechanics? Great vid? Can anyone read lips and translate for us?

  • Must have been a lot of farting at that table (maybe that's why there was no audio)

    JUST KIDDING!! =-)

  • Man, everyone else is using a spoon and that guy was using a knife!

  • thats what you have to do in war time "Use what you get" is what my great grand papy used to tell me

  • I love seeing their faces!!! They're sooo happy!!! Even with a meal that we'd spit out for dinner these days, these guys take it like a feast. I bet those guys are very lucky to have chow like this, in comparison to Easy Company in Bastogne! :(

  • it is a feast back in "the old days" my great grand papy loved the c ration he ate all 3 courses at once before. May he rest in peace

  • @darkarm3rocks I wish I could've given you a thumbs up but here I can't. So I'll just say that your Grand Pappy sounded like a great man.

  • mmm eat ,eat oll the beans ,... maybe is your last dinner!

  • mmm eat ,eat ....maybe is your last dinner!

  • mmm, eat ,eat .... maybe is your last meal.... ha ha ha

  • why dont they heat them up? They not in combat it seems from footage, so no reason not too.

Strange US personell ate k, c, cold. British always tried to heat theirs. cold rations are bad for morale.

  • Those actually look better then the MRE's. I am a WWII reenactor and have wondered how they taste. Are they hard to come by or where can you get reproductions?.

  • 1:18...hardcore Lol

  • Awesome video. :)

  • NOTE:it as been about 40 minuets since i had my c-ration meal. It has been about 30 seconds since the toilet was used.

  • I made some c-ration today.(baked beans in tomato sauce with SPAM). I can see why the army had a ration of 20 beans: 1 SPAM chunk. SPAM IS REVOLTING. C-ration didnt taste that bad though.

  • I made some c-ration today, (baked beans and SPAM). I can see why the beans: SPAM ration is in favour of beans.......

  • Terrific footage, thanks for putting it up. My first thought on seeing a closeup of the "meat and beans" can was: okay I see the beans, where's the meat?

  • wait a second, correct me if i am wrong, but werent beans a k and not a c ration?

  • No. WW2 C-ration M-unit (Meat unit) came in 3 types initially - Meat and Veg Stew, Meat and Beans, and one other that I can't remember...

  • Dude eating with his knife at 1:18. Boss.

  • lol yea he is using his bayanette, i think i spelled that correctly

  • bayonet is how its spelled

  • What a Great Video!! Those were the Good Ole days when the United States was actually Loved and Appreciated by many many Countries!! GOD Bless the United States!!

  • Fantastic footage. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • This is a real treasure.

    Great post.

  • when I see this kind of material, I always wonder what happened to all of them afterwards and how were their lives ...

  • Hmmm...using his knife like a spoon...

  • Wonder if all these guys made it out.

  • home video? wow!

  • this is amazing, best ww2 footage i've ever seen. it seems the cameraman had the foresight to run the filmspeed a lot faster than conventional speeds, making it look more "normal" paced than usual of the time period. he overshot it a little, making it slightly slow motion at times- was probably run somewhere near 35/40fps.

24fps for film is the standard for today, for those unfamiliar.

whoever made this was ahead of his time.

    thanks for sharing this.

  • Very interesting piece. Color film was rare in the Italian Campaign, even among newsreel cameramen. Was this shot by Signal Corps personnel? It may have been shot by the 196th Signal Photo Company.

  • Does anybody know the names of these soldiers?

  • Someone should show this to every wise-cracking re-enactor who thinks that EVERY soldier in WW2 was 18 years old and thin and didn't wear glasses...

  • right on!!
