  • I saw Roger and Zapp perform in San Diego around 1992. I was hooked!! Roger was such a showman. I was a big fan after that, and bought the Greatest Hits CD. I was saddened whan he was killed. RIP Roger.

  • Rufus Troutman (a nephew of Roger) has a Gospel cd (No Compromise) using the Troutman fam and the Talkbox....Zapp funk praising God...you gotta check it out...Much Love!

  • That's sad....sounds like when the money started leaving is when the problems came, they both were probably stressed and things came to a boiling point. The love of money is the root to all evil and to have lots and then lose it is very dangerous....this is mainly why people of their stature kill and commit suicide, shyt is real! RIP to them both and God bless the family

  • That was such a tragic ending to 2 lives, and brothers at that! I remember hearing it on the radio and being so shocked. I am very happy that the other members of Zapp have decided to remain together.

  • now that was deep! thank u for posting this documentary very informative!

  • i read in a book that roger practiced endless hours on that talkbox to define what wa coming out of his motuh, sou you can understand the words that he spoke, many that play the talk box arent clear at all what theyre saying. they said he would even get stomach infection sometimes from having the tube so far back into his throat.

  • sad sad sad man you couldnt imagine something like this happening to a family, and i wonder how much resentment is held against the other brother? this whole thing seems so fishy,to drive away and shoot yourself while drivng, what an selfish act.

  • @hipowerz yes. beyond selfish. It can be dangerous to have so much responsibility without God in your life.

  • thank you for this one.

    beautiful documentary.

    cheers my friend~

  • Just finished watching all parts. Thanks for posting.

My Comcast plan doesn't include TV One.

  • I hope they have healed as a family! they all they got!

  • Don't know what to say, just want to wish the whole family peace

  • Happy birthday Roger ♥

    Gone too soon :'(

    11/29/51 - 4/25/99

  • and what exactly would the CIA have wanted from them at the time? they weren't even at their peak

  • @amtownsyou You never know this music business is evil......It couldve been some blood sacrifice type shit

  • @mrsexxc1 Now that makes better sense, rather than the CIA.....The Music/Hollywood business has a lot of dark stuff going on behind the scenes.

  • @amtownsyou talk to me about this?? i was thinking this whole thing seems fishy, drive away and shoot self?? while driving?

  • auto-tune and talkbox may sound similar, but are entirely different modes of expression. cannot believe T is brought up during this touching documentary about Rog... ya'll are sick.

  • Your accusation of the CIA having been involved in Roger's murder IS definitely going far. That's an extreme accusation and if you don't have any concrete evidence to back it up, then you're simply speculating as well. On the other hand in terms of fratricide, it's very real and although it may be difficult to fathom how one could murder his or her own brother, it does exist.

  • Thanks for posting, xx

  • I saw Roger in Toledo with Zapp And They jammed so tough! I still think of those days with fondness

  • I can't imagine shooting/killing my brother.....SMH

  • @dlastqueen

Right on. Me and my lil bro fight from time to time like all siblings do but we're bros...I can't imagine killing my own brother...that's just...crazy. WTF? RIP Roger!!!

  • I remember seeing Roger at the World Trade Center. He blew my mind.

  • @ionahoopii that had to be the Kiss Fm concert series of 1996 I was there that show was off the Chart killer performance

  • The music is legendary....but how the brothers went out is tragic and sad...my prayers are that the children are at peace and know that it wasn't there fault. This unsung was the hardest for me too look at. Who cares about who used auto tune or a talk box.

  • @ichoosetoworship I see your point, but that's like saying "who cares if Jimi Hendrix played guitar or Guitar Hero?" Or "who cares if Muhammad Ali was a boxer or just played boxing video games on an X-Box?" A lot of people care. Part of the greatness of Roger is that he is the greatest talk box artist of all time. Let's get it right.

  • @friendofthefunk Its really not that serious.....really. Alll I was saying was who cares about the auto tune or talk box when two brothers who loves one another is DEAD..... really not that serious...Get it right.

  • @ichoosetoworship Like I said, I see your point, BUT I hope you can see mine as well: that does matter and it is serious. We're not just mourning two men's deaths, we're also commemorating a man's LIFE. We can never undo the tragedy of Roger's murder, but we can at least uphold his legacy by not conflating his genuine artistic brilliance with some current corny trend.

  • this documentary is cool except for when they contribute to the misconception that tpain uses the talkbox...thats disrespectful to compare tpain to roger troutman...

  • Omg..I know that feeling ...that pain of losing someone you love so much... I wouldn't wish it on anyone... it just sits in your gut and on your heart forever!

  • fucking money......fuckin money

  • God bless Roger and Larry. What a tragedy! I'm glad that his surving brothers and band members have kept the touch going. God bless their children as well!

  • The CIA murdered this wonderful brother like they have murdered so many more.Their goal is to rob the world of its soul. This is satan the devil.

  • @SMOKING5STRING I would not go that far, but you raise a suspicion I've had for years that a very real effort to destroy the R&B band is alive and well. Name one major-label R&B band recording now. I'll wait...

  • @ajiwa69 So if you know that to have some truth to it,why wouldn't you go that far???? Why do people know something is true but would not allow themselves to go that far??? Of course you know the truth, you just said it yourself.......The answer is NONE!!!!

  • @SMOKING5STRING The CIA? explain

  • thanks to Roger Troutman, artists like T-Pain and others have been influenced to entertain the world with the talkbox on their songs

  • @troyboy7962 and after all those comments.. you still have no clue... lol T-pain used auto tune.....not a talkbox

  • Did anyone see Roger Troutman in '97 or so for one of the lunchtime concerts at the World Trade Centre?

  • i've enjoyd zapp and roger for many yearz and still do til this day.. my fondest memory was when i was in 6th grade and "More Bounce To the Ounce" came out.. my oldest brother who is now a part-time dj, had it on a cassette tape. He told me not to touch his stuff...i didnt listen though lolz.. i took it to school with my tape player and jammd it TO DEATH with my friendz..lol.. each yr, i couldnt WAIT to see what they brought out next. good timez.. God bless their familiez. RIP ROGER & LARRY..

  • Forget T-Pain lets slag off lady Kaka

  • Would people stop bashing T-Pain on every damn page? It's annoying.

  • horrible story

  • As far as I'm concerned, T-Pain is a good writer, great producer, but besides this post I'm making, I can't mention him and Roger in the same sentence. If Pain would make a jam using a real talkbox where you actually have to play the notes you want to sing as opposed to programming them on a computer program, I could bend a little. Even still, Roger's musicanship is just unparalleled. Singularly, he's the one artist I can say made me want to do this music. R.I.P. Roger & Larry

  • EVEN THOUGH THEY PUT THE "IN LOVING MEMORY" NOTE AT THE END IT SEEMED THAT THEY MENTIONED ROGER MORE THAN LARRY...

  • @caramelcutie739 And your point is...

  • It a shame we complain about the artist that are out now, but if you have talent do something about it!

  • @erika2012vsu i am :).....

  • All I will say is that I thank God that I had the oppurtunity to dance, skate and enjoy to their music...I am grateful...Rest in Peace.

  • @newme09able Gratitude is the endless well that keeps giving. Thank you

  • you have brought a new joy in your style roger god bless you

    rest in piece

  • The only person they forgot to mention as far as the talkbox is Teddy Riley why wasn't his name mentioned because he deserve more recongnition than T-PAIN

  • I think too much pride made Larry do what he did. He tried to take on 2 much.

  • @roscoegino pride and jealousy that roger was continuing to grow but 4 million in the hole aint that much. especially on the level that they were on.

  • So many of these Unsungs end so sadly. Even the Teena one now that shes gone.

  • Thany you so much for all the UNSUNG uploads , do you have the Sylvester episode? could you upload it, i would be very grateful. thank you again

  • Please understand the difference. If you listen close Autotune sounds different than a Talkbox and does require more skills

  • Thank you for posting this Manyek, very insightful and I'm glad to at least be the owner of Roger and Zapps great music

  • i was at that shoe at the grove by the way im 14 and i love zapp & roger and funk (:

  • @mashsf1 * show aha

  • DJ Quik and the talkbox, YES. T-Pain and Kanye, HELL NO!!!!!

  • ...that is hardly filled today. It's almost unfathomable how someone you don't personally know can touch your heart like that. That's why Roger & Larry came. And now that they're gone, we have a musical & spiritual legacy to build from. All my love & support to the family & fans. RIP Roger, Larry & Roger Lynch.

    One Love ^_^

  • I remember chillin' at North Ave Beach with my 9 month old daughter, and decided to turn on the radio. It was a Sunday, and I switched back & forth between stations. I heard Herb Kent talk about someone in the past tense. He and the other DJs talked about how whatever the circumstances were that no drugs or even alcohol was involved. When I heard someone say Funk Legend Roger Troutman died, I damn near passed out holding my daughter. My heart was totally broken. I had a hole in my heart...

  • Oct 80' I was 18 at Chanute AFB. My cousin was with me, & got tickets to see Commodores. When we got there, there was an opening band playing. I was wondering who these guys were. Then, they broke out into "Alright", and they had my attention. Then, Roger came down on a rope and "More Bounce" started blasting; the place went crazy! I bought every album after that, both Zapp & Roger's. Got a pain in my gut when I heard what happened. It felt like my early years went with Zapp when he left...

  • I remember roger having a radio show and I was on my way to work when I heard about RT. May he and Larry R.I.P.

  • i was on my way to meps to do my physical for the army, & i turned on the radio when the "tjms" broke the news. i was like whoa. to this day i am still kinda like that.....anybody else remember where they was or what they was doing when they heard the sad news

  • @famousfuture .......I can still vividly remember, I was at a friends house on that sunday, and we were all just chilling, playing cards, listening to the radio and the announcer broke in with the news and I swear you could actually hear a pin drop, then we all just started crying, it was so unreal, and til this day still can't believe it, I know that they are both side by side in heaven together and all is forgiven

  • Thank you Roger you never forgotten R.I.P

  • The good book mentions how "Siblings are born Adversaries." The soul chooses the womb. In a previous incarnation they shared some kind of spiritual agreement/spiritual contract. Whatever or whomever you obsess with or over, you'll magnetize to in a next life. All it takes is a thought which the formless realm equate to desire. "I desire," Scorpio's key phrase. Scorpio rules birth, death & transformation, sex... it's hard to connect the cosmic dots here. Listen/read Sonia Barrett's material.

  • tpain fake, roger and quik real

  • talkbox!!!

  • Really appreciate this documentary and love Roger and the Zapp Band!

  • What happened? :( why he do that. He meaning Larry.

  • WOW too this day I think them as a family have resentment towards Larry. I could only imagine how that family got torn apart and they look like they really aren't together as a family still. SOOOOOO very sad!

  • Roger thanks for your example, thank you for inspiring us, thanks for making me believe that anything is possible...

    R.I.P. Roger & Larry

  • DJ Quik quote: There are people to me that immitate the style but don't know where it came from.

    WORD.

  • very sad story

maybe it's the editing, but it doesn't seem like anyone's too broken up about Larry Troutman. I understand he murdered his brother, but I think he had to be in a very bad state of mind to do something that dramatic. Not saying he should be forgiven, but I think the fact that he committed suicide directly afterwards shows that he never intended for things to get out of hand and that he couldn't live with what he'd done....just my thoughts

  • Great story.

  • This has trully brought me 2 tears. This was a tragedy, that no family should have gone through. I hope their family has finally come 2 some kind of peace and calmness. May God bless them.

  • R.I.P Roger Troutman.

  • T-Pain used Autotune, not a talk box

  • @LqrDrnkr757 absolutley right. And on top of that T-Pain has zero talent. We will never be bumping his music in 30 years. Heck we don;t even bump his music from five years ago. It's really ashame how music is total garbage, now.

  • @tknockerson dude man the fuck is t-pain with his AUTOTUNE SCUM SHIT !????? Talkbox is levels higher than autotune. Autotune is for PPL who doesnt know shit about Music !!!!

  • @tknockerson T-Pain has some crappy songs, and he has great songs. Roger has great songs. T-Pain just took the baton from Roger and is making good music for this generation. (I'm sure that James Brown fans were saying Zapp was garbage back in the late 70s/early 80s.)

  • @tknockerson T-Pain doesn't even use a talkbox cause he knows that even with a talkbox, the artist has to put in a lot of work.

  • @tknockerson how would you know that. Hater sht up

  • @smoothcollected What a dumb ass reply to my comment. You hit me up in 30 years if T-Pain's touring doing his old music.

  • @tknockerson no your comment was dumb and obviously without any proof unless your a fucking fortune teller. simply because he obviously done well enough to be noticed by you and i ass crack. Im willing to bet you over 35 and Just so old fashion to see some else be smart enough to use this tool that no one else is. and by the way dick mouth you obviously hadnt heard tp sing without it cuz he can. Like i said you a crab in a barrel

  • @smoothcollected go play after school sports and stop replying to me. T Pain ain't even popping now, so how u think he will be in thirty years. Stay in school lil homie. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

  • @tknockerson dude thats what you need to be doing if you hating on the young bruh

  • @smoothcollected do your thang young bruh. I ain't got no real issues with you. We all have our own opinions. Peace to you rgardless of your musical taste. Peace.

  • @LqrDrnkr757 Thank you!! That's what I be tryna tell people everytime that conversation comes up. Any clown can sing through Auto-Tune, but it actual talks musical talent, knowledge, and skill to use a talk box. Roger is a prime example of that, along with Stevie Wonder, Peter Frampton, and Teddy Riley to name a few.

  • @LqrDrnkr757 thank you I was thinking the same thing.

  • @LqrDrnkr757 to me it's da same thing...

  • @lilbrowneyez69 well it's not, buddy. Autotune is something anybody could use while the talk box actually involves talent to use.

  • @lilbrowneyez69 To you, piss and lemonade might be the same thing. That doesn't mean they are.

  • @LqrDrnkr757 What's the difference? T-Pain has some crappy songs, and he has great songs. Roger has great songs. T-Pain just took the baton from Roger and is making good music for this generation.

  • @thoomolong Comparing T-Pain to Roger is ridiculous. T-Pain plays no instruments. Roger played several instruments, and was the world's greatest at one of them. Furthermore, Roger made legendary, groundbreaking songs like "More Bounce" and "Computer Love." What's T-Pain's "More Bounce"? He doesn't have one. Passing of the baton my ass.

  • @friendofthefunk LOL....you tell 'em!

  • @friendofthefunk the saddest thng is that people who dont know are stupid enough to think that what passes for real music today can be compared to what was done in Roger's time.

  • @LqrDrnkr757 What's the difference? They both distort the voice.

  • @thoomolong The talkbox is a highly expressive instrument with which the player simultaneously plays a melody on a guitar or synthesizer and uses his mouth to shape the instrument's tone into words. Auto-tune is a generic, expressionless pitch-correcting effect added to a voice with the click of a button. So while one is an instrument that combines vocal and instrumental performance, one is a crutch that eliminates the need to be skilled at either. That is a big fucking difference!!!

  • @friendofthefunk AMEN!!!!!
