hi, your vids are really cool ! i've a question: i'm pretty interrested by the einstein, this head sound really good . do you think this amp can be good for death metal stuff ?
i'm a little bored with my engl se preamp and i think it's time to change ^^.
I used to use the Einstein just for Jazz stuff, but have been using it more and more for Metal recently, and have been very impressed by how it performs. I reckon it would do a good job as a Death Metal amp \m/ \m/
@dorthian My death metal band (Composted) has used the Diezel Einstein for 2 CDs so far. It's definitely a bit more sophisticated sounding than what most death metal bands may go far, but I think it's perfect: chugs come out tight and clear without sacrificing the beefy/crunchy quality, mids cut through the mix perfectly and there's a really nice atmosphere, I guess you could call it.
Free energy is finaly here! But the coverup is very strong,Go to LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM and get the blueprints for a genuine magnet motor ,take part in the revolution!
@CliveJevons DAMNN!! Could you do me a huge favor man? I'd really like to talk to you about the blueface, I just have some questions. I'd really appreciate if you could email me
Diezel heads are the shit i was always a mesa guy until i played a diezel einstein thru a marshall cab at a music store near where i live diezel is alot like the mesa but i like it because its like my vox it has a tight bottom end
i've played a lot of high end amps bogners vht etc and my favorite amp heads are diezels NO contest i have yet to try an engl but i doubt my opinion will change i'll probably get an axe-fx when i come into some money however.
I really like the idea of an axe-fx, but haven't had a chance to play on one yet. But the sheer versatility of it strikes me as ideal for practise and studio situations ... if the qualities right - which, by the account of all the reports I've read, it is.
@PrsFenderJackson1980 there's loads of good ones out there!! And it will really come down to taste in the end. But here are some which you should try out IMHO to help you decide: Diezel Einstein / VH4 / Herbert (of course ;)), EVH 5150 III, Peavy JSX / 6505 / 3120, Mesa Boogie Mk V, Engl SE E 670 / Steve Morse sig / Powerball II, Egnator Tourmaster 4100 .... there are many, many more which I haven't tried and couldn't comment on ... just get out there and try as many as you can :D
@PrsFenderJackson1980 OH - and if you can, make sure to try each one out with the cabinet which the vendor matched with the head (I believe almost all of them have one). E.g. with the Diezel VH4, try it out with a Diezel 4x12 (both front loaded and rear loaded if you can), with the EVH 5150 iii, use the EVH cab, etc etc.
@CliveJevons Thank you for quick reply. I actually have a list, but I ask everyone on ther opinion. Don't want to buy a new top the line half stack and its has too much gain or not enough. List of potential amps are follows; Marshall Vintage Modern, Marshall JVM 210H, Soldano Decatone 100, Mesa Boogie Stiletto Trident, Engl Savage 120, and last but not least Diezel Einstein 100.
@PrsFenderJackson1980 Out of the ones you mention, I'd personally go with the Einstein - but I will say that I haven't tried either the Soldano or the Mesa - so I couldn't comment on how they are relative to the Diezel. As I said before though, its a highly personal choice, so only one you can make ;) I'd say that the ones you list should pretty much all be on par with each other as far as quality is concerned.
The Diezel will definitely offer you full control over gain ;)
@ssi1121 I'd have to say the Herbert. But out of the two I own (VH4S and Einstein), I'd say they're pretty equal - maybe the VH4S has a touch more ...
LOL - yeah, not the cheapest, but I like to think of it this way: a standard Gibson LP can cost around 6000 Euros over here, ditto a PRS Moder Eagle II ... and the Blackmachine is at *least* their equal, if not better, so considering that, its actually quite cheap hehe
@tarokos HA! Really? Have you ever played one!?!? In fact, the Blackmachine is much better at Rock and Jazz sounds than Metal sounds - which is why I'm mostly using my Hufschmid for Metal now. The Blackmachine has some really gorgeous sweet, smooth Jazz tones.
So please shut about things you don't know the first thing about!!
And YES, I *have* played on both custom Gibsons and a PRS Modern Eagle II!! (And the latter is a *really* gorgeous guitar, I'll grant you - but twice as expensive ;)).
Its a pretty versatile amp, so I'm guessing it could be used in that context - but its not a style of music I play, so I'd have to defer to other people reading this who maybe haved used the amp in that context.
Danke :D Habe damals umgerechnet um die 3000 Euro bezahlt ... kostet inzwischen aber glaube ich mehr (obwohl ja der Pfund gegenüber dem Euro etwas eingebrochen ist ...).
... which is why I'm having a better sounding one made by Patrick Hufschmid LOL
Seriously, though - I've found that my BM really doesn't do Metal very well, which is a crying shame, because I *love* the instrument per se - just doesn't sound convincing in a Metal setting. It does Jazz stuff really really well though - check out some of the newer vids of me doing clean stuff.
Hey mate, how does the Einstein sound at low volumes? Also, how easy is it to have it modified so that the three modes in channel one are adjustable with a footswitch?
Your gear is incredibly enviable. Are you in a band? Though, I'm not one of those blokes who thinks you can't have gear if you're not, I'm genuinely interested.
It works surprisingly well at low volumes - although there's only so low you can go with the Einstein (well, connected to a 4x12 at least ;)).
I saw instructions on modding ch1 so you can switch it via pedal a while back - looked like someone who's good with electronics would be able to do it - but that's not me, so I didn't even try lol
Yup - I play in a Metal band called Bludgeoned (just add a dot and a net) and a Jazz band called Orange Lounge (Myspace: orangeloungejazz)
The VH4S is my preferred amp for distorted tones, but I prefer the Einstein for warmer jazzy stuff - both at low and high volumes. I also think that the VH4S does the 'crunch' sounds better - but there's not much in it between the two there.
Overall, the Diezels are good at retaining fairly good tone at low volumes, unlike some other all-tube amps, which you have to really tear open to get good tone. But the Diezels also sound better cranked up, of course ;)
I know I can't afford the VH4S, but the used market offers the VH4 for about £1800... which is doable. But I'd rather spend less and get the Einstein. They are very hard to find and try out, though, that's the problem. I don't need the VH4's power. I don't need 50 watts, either, but there's no substitute.
Try emailing Peter Stapfer directly and aks him if he knows any Diezel distributors near you - either that, or go see them at one of the music trade fairs (they're usually at all the big ones :)).
Yeah - the one in the vid is a B6 - that's the closest Doug does to a series production guitar - got to play it at the last Frankfurt Musik Messe; awesome guitar!! I'm sure Bulb also has an F8 eight string from Doug, but I didn't spot that in the vid ... maybe in a later one :D \m/
... yeah, that's the Illustrated Luthier 8 string he's got ... if you check on sevenstring with a dot and an org you should also be able to find some pics of his Blackmachine F8 ... I *think* its in the Guitar Of The Month forum for the Extended Range Guitar voting ... IIRC, that is ;)
*however*: I haven't by any means tried all the amps in the world (amongst which are Bogner :( ) ... so I can't guarantee that you *won't* find anything better LOL
But IMHO you really can't go wrong with either the VH4 or the Einstein. If you've got the money, go with the VH4 - I do consider it the better amp and the midi switching makes it way more versatile live.
I hope all this aimless rambling has been of some help LOL
hey dude if you had to choose between the diezel einstein or vh4 no questions asked and just based on feeling which would you pick im thinking of getting the einstein because i play classic rock, blues and hard rock and physecadelic rock. and prog. i currently own a peavey classic 30 its alright but sometimes on its own it sounds a bit gay. i use a t-rex overdrive with it to make it reallly sound like something else. and what would you recommend for my style, diezel wise?
I consider the VH4 the better amp for everything apart from clean sounds - I prefer those on the Einstein (not that the clean on the VH4 isn't good - I just prefer that of the Einstein) ;)
Its obviously also a budget question - the VH4 is a good 1000 Euro more expensive! Plus the VH4 has midi switching, which the Einstein doesn't. BUT the Einstein is a really good and versatile amp, and IMHO you'll be hard pressed to find anything better at that price point ;)
I've played the Herbert at the Frankfurt Musik Messe (trade fair) a bunch of times. IMHO its cut our for Metal, whereas the Einstein has a warmer, possibly more 'classic' sound to it - which obviously *can* be used for Metal, but I prefer it for jazzier / bluesier stuff.
Yeah - it was some kind of change to the circuitry. But as it was Peter Diezel who did it, I didn't really ask for details, instead relying on his expertise and instincts lol :)
Hi man! You're really awesome! Could you recommend me which tubes i have to put in my diezel einstein to have the best metal sound? 6L6, El34, or KT88/6550? And what about the preamp tubes? Thanks!
Oh boy - that's a difficult one!! Generally, EL34 are a good choice for Metal ;)
The problem is that even within the same batch of the same make of the same model, each tube will sound slightly different! So the best thing is to go round to a repair shop which has LOADS of them and try different ones out until you get the sound you're looking for. Takes a while, but its time well spent :DDD
Yes, you're right...Actually i have two 6L6GC electro hamonix in the poweramp (i've bought the head used so they were already loaded) , but i hear too much basses.. I have to keep the bass and deep at 12' o'clock, and treble and presence to 15-16 o' clock to have a good sound. Than if i raise too much the gain the sound becomes too doughy. The tone is really amazing, it is hot and brutal, but i want to have the best sound i can pull out from this head :)
You could get in touch with either of the Peters via the official Diezel support email address - they're sure to know how all different types of tubes effect the various Diezel amps, as they're always experimenting with these types of things ;) And they're both real nice, friendly and willing to help out their users, so no need to be shy ;))
Hey Clive, i've sent an email to them 3 days ago but i'm still waiting! Anyway, i'm going to buy a pair of JJ el34 tubes, maybe i'll have a better sound. I have a last question: don't you think that the tone is too doughy when you raise the gain?I had a 5150 and comparing to it, the einstein has a warmer and liquid tone (that i love), but it has not that chunky and dry sound for the rhythmic! What do you think about it?
Have you heard back from the yet? It can take Peter a while, its only the two of them doing all the emails, after all ;)
Yeah - the Einstein definitely isn't as crisp as my VH4S in the high gain areas. Which channel were you running on, though? I find that ch1 mode 3 is crisper than ch2 ... I even had Peter Diezel tune my ch2 a bit to more closely resemble ch1 m3. If you've got any valve amp experts in your area, they may be able to do the same for you?
These Diezels are amazing but the Herbert and VH4 are really overkill. 180 watts of output in a Herbert! That's even louder than my Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.. which is LOUD!
i have a paranoia that everythnig i've heard recently sounds to me like somethnig else that i can't remember what is... it's strange and after few days i forgot it... but i only want to say that your sound is damn good! i' ve fallen in love with sound of that amp... i want to buy one"
Do the Diezels respond well to OD pedals? Not that you'd ever really need one, but I hear a lot of people say that the focused sound of German amps like Engl and Diezel don't like OD's. What do you think?
To be honest, I've never tried an OD pedal with the Diezels, so I've no idea how well it would work lol :) I think I've got an old Ibby distortion pedal lying around somewhere, so I might give it a go if I find the time - if so, I'll send you a message with the results ;) \m/
Im my honest opinion, I'm not sure I've found it yet lol ;)
As of now, I'm loving my VH4S the most. The Einstein's good, but I don't find it to be quite as defined or aggressive as the VH4S ... mind you, we're talking nuances here! ;) But the sheer brutality of chugging a low Bb power chord on the VH4S ripped wide open and physically punching me in the gut with every hit of the pick? FTW, my friend, FTW!! ;)
Awesome sounds. How do you feel the Diezel models like your VH4 compare to the Einstein in terms of overall sound and gain stage. I've read a few reviews saying the Einstein is really punchy sounding, but not as tight and in-your-face as the Herbert or the VH4.
It certainly does rip cranked up! I love the physicality of it when its loud ... punches your right in the gut and makes your trousers flap ;) Speaking of which - I must find some time to nip round the practise room and do just that again \m/
lol :) To top it off, I've grown up in both Britain and Germany, so I've got a weird-assed mix of all kinds of accents!! :))) There' s a bit of Bristolian, a bit of Yorkshire, a bit of Queen's English and a dash of Bavarian ... an accent Mutt, if you will lol
awesome video mate. i was just wondering, are Blackmachine guitars actually available in UK? i can't for the life of me find where one would buy them. i'd love to get the B7
anyway, keep making these vids mate, the tone is great
Thnx :) Yup - they're made in the UK (London to be precise) by a chap called Doug Cambell. Check out Blackmachine with a dot and a net added. He's got contact details on there - just give him a call on his mobile - that's the best way to get in touch with him :)
They're Celestion G12K100s. Give Peter Stapfer a call or send him a mail to find out which distributor you can get one from :) (He gives his contact details in the last part of my video interview series with him :)).
those amps must sound like ratz in a cage in that tiny room @_@ As a working recording engineer, it's just as much about the room as it is the amp. ymmv............................
You're so right :) We've just been recording in a studio, and the sound I got there with my VH4S is in a completely different league than the recording here in a small room with a camcorder mic ;) lol
I'm hoping to try to record the amp close-mic'd and sync it with the video like sean's started doing on his vids ... maybe that'll help make it sound a bit more like it actually does :)
Fuck'n crushing tone......and thanx for demonstrating palm muted power-chords on the low f string, very interesting to see that...never seen other 8 string axe videos do that, and it has been bugging my mind to wonder how it would sound......finally it has been answered.
Yeah it is quite a bit ;) But I've been accruing it over almost two decades now ... admittedly all the good stuff in the last five years or so ;) But I don't go on holiday or have an expensive car; I just buy guitar and music equipment - so I guess I'm not spending more than other people would - I just spend it differently lol :D
I'm definitely going to be doing some more vids with the 8 :D \m/ ... I'm definitely used to having the extra string now and am working on more material making use of it, so there's certainly be more low riffage coming ;)
And yes, I'm also into Meshuggah, although I consider my style to be quite a bit different to theirs - I'm more into bigger chord voicings rather than single string riffing ... on an aside, isn't obZen simply an amazing, crushing, brutal, jaw dropping experience!?!?! \m/
Holy shit dude, those are some killer harmonics you're hitting there.
Obviously I can't say how the sound would fit in the mix live, but it's a bit too fuzzy around the edges during the riffing, I think. On the other hand, I used to think that was the only bad quality of Loomis's (rhythm) tone, but that's been growing on me as well. Definitely not suited for tech death (from what I can tell) but definitely good for a lot of the more Suffocation style riffs.
I do tend to have a lot of distortion in as I'm the only guitarist in Bludgeoned and have a lot of sonic room to fill lol :) If there was a second guitar in there, I'd probably roll back the gain a bit. But the Diezel's response is amazing - you can stop on a dime with them :D But hey - everyone has their personal preferences as far as tone goes ;)
Ahh sweet! I've been dieing to play a blackmachine, and a diezel to be fair.

I actually meant 6550's... sorry. I assume you knew what I meant, anyway.
How does it sound? Which amp has more note definition and better tones at low volumes?
angrygoldfish 2 years ago
The VH4S is my preferred amp for distorted tones, but I prefer the Einstein for warmer jazzy stuff - both at low and high volumes. I also think that the VH4S does the 'crunch' sounds better - but there's not much in it between the two there.
Overall, the Diezels are good at retaining fairly good tone at low volumes, unlike some other all-tube amps, which you have to really tear open to get good tone. But the Diezels also sound better cranked up, of course ;)
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 2 years ago
I know I can't afford the VH4S, but the used market offers the VH4 for about £1800... which is doable. But I'd rather spend less and get the Einstein. They are very hard to find and try out, though, that's the problem. I don't need the VH4's power. I don't need 50 watts, either, but there's no substitute.
angrygoldfish 2 years ago
Try emailing Peter Stapfer directly and aks him if he knows any Diezel distributors near you - either that, or go see them at one of the music trade fairs (they're usually at all the big ones :)).
Cheers,
C

I've actually tried emailing Diezel twice, but never received anything. I'll keep trying. They can't ignore me forever. :)
Thanks for the words.
I'm liking both bands, btw. The vocals aren't my cup of tea, though. XD

Maybe.. I don't know these guitars but the one they're curently using for their recordings is a 6 strings as we can see in their crazy videos.
Your guitar look like a MONSTER !!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah they do !!!!
KCDise 2 years ago
Yeah - the one in the vid is a B6 - that's the closest Doug does to a series production guitar - got to play it at the last Frankfurt Musik Messe; awesome guitar!! I'm sure Bulb also has an F8 eight string from Doug, but I didn't spot that in the vid ... maybe in a later one :D \m/

yes they have an 8 strings, I saw the pictures on Bulb's myspace.
It's got sort of a weird green flamed body

... yeah, that's the Illustrated Luthier 8 string he's got ... if you check on sevenstring with a dot and an org you should also be able to find some pics of his Blackmachine F8 ... I *think* its in the Guitar Of The Month forum for the Extended Range Guitar voting ... IIRC, that is ;)

and how do they compare with bogner?
NickWeiland 2 years ago
*however*: I haven't by any means tried all the amps in the world (amongst which are Bogner :( ) ... so I can't guarantee that you *won't* find anything better LOL
But IMHO you really can't go wrong with either the VH4 or the Einstein. If you've got the money, go with the VH4 - I do consider it the better amp and the midi switching makes it way more versatile live.
I hope all this aimless rambling has been of some help LOL
Cheers,

Also depends WHICH bogner your talking about.
BlueBarrier782 2 years ago
hey dude if you had to choose between the diezel einstein or vh4 no questions asked and just based on feeling which would you pick im thinking of getting the einstein because i play classic rock, blues and hard rock and physecadelic rock. and prog. i currently own a peavey classic 30 its alright but sometimes on its own it sounds a bit gay. i use a t-rex overdrive with it to make it reallly sound like something else. and what would you recommend for my style, diezel wise?
NickWeiland 2 years ago
I consider the VH4 the better amp for everything apart from clean sounds - I prefer those on the Einstein (not that the clean on the VH4 isn't good - I just prefer that of the Einstein) ;)
Its obviously also a budget question - the VH4 is a good 1000 Euro more expensive! Plus the VH4 has midi switching, which the Einstein doesn't. BUT the Einstein is a really good and versatile amp, and IMHO you'll be hard pressed to find anything better at that price point ;)

also, have you tested the diezel herbert? if so, how would you compare it to the einstein?
sfc121 2 years ago
I've played the Herbert at the Frankfurt Musik Messe (trade fair) a bunch of times. IMHO its cut our for Metal, whereas the Einstein has a warmer, possibly more 'classic' sound to it - which obviously *can* be used for Metal, but I prefer it for jazzier / bluesier stuff.
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 2 years ago
what did the mod consist of? was it a change to the actual channel two circuitry? thanks.
sfc121 2 years ago
Yeah - it was some kind of change to the circuitry. But as it was Peter Diezel who did it, I didn't really ask for details, instead relying on his expertise and instincts lol :)

Hi man! You're really awesome! Could you recommend me which tubes i have to put in my diezel einstein to have the best metal sound? 6L6, El34, or KT88/6550? And what about the preamp tubes? Thanks!
vaffanculo8555 2 years ago
Hey there,
Thanks! :)
\m/
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 2 years ago
Yes, you're right...Actually i have two 6L6GC electro hamonix in the poweramp (i've bought the head used so they were already loaded) , but i hear too much basses.. I have to keep the bass and deep at 12' o'clock, and treble and presence to 15-16 o' clock to have a good sound. Than if i raise too much the gain the sound becomes too doughy. The tone is really amazing, it is hot and brutal, but i want to have the best sound i can pull out from this head :)
vaffanculo8555 2 years ago
PS. What do you think about changing poweramp tubes with a pair of KT88 or 6550??
vaffanculo8555 2 years ago
I've never tried either of those ...
You could get in touch with either of the Peters via the official Diezel support email address - they're sure to know how all different types of tubes effect the various Diezel amps, as they're always experimenting with these types of things ;) And they're both real nice, friendly and willing to help out their users, so no need to be shy ;))
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 2 years ago
Hey Clive, i've sent an email to them 3 days ago but i'm still waiting! Anyway, i'm going to buy a pair of JJ el34 tubes, maybe i'll have a better sound. I have a last question: don't you think that the tone is too doughy when you raise the gain?I had a 5150 and comparing to it, the einstein has a warmer and liquid tone (that i love), but it has not that chunky and dry sound for the rhythmic! What do you think about it?
vaffanculo8555 2 years ago
Have you heard back from the yet? It can take Peter a while, its only the two of them doing all the emails, after all ;)
Yeah - the Einstein definitely isn't as crisp as my VH4S in the high gain areas. Which channel were you running on, though? I find that ch1 mode 3 is crisper than ch2 ... I even had Peter Diezel tune my ch2 a bit to more closely resemble ch1 m3. If you've got any valve amp experts in your area, they may be able to do the same for you?
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 2 years ago
These Diezels are amazing but the Herbert and VH4 are really overkill. 180 watts of output in a Herbert! That's even louder than my Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.. which is LOUD!
vontetzianos 3 years ago
i have a paranoia that everythnig i've heard recently sounds to me like somethnig else that i can't remember what is... it's strange and after few days i forgot it... but i only want to say that your sound is damn good! i' ve fallen in love with sound of that amp... i want to buy one"

Hi Clive,
Do the Diezels respond well to OD pedals? Not that you'd ever really need one, but I hear a lot of people say that the focused sound of German amps like Engl and Diezel don't like OD's. What do you think?
vontetzianos 3 years ago
Hey there,
To be honest, I've never tried an OD pedal with the Diezels, so I've no idea how well it would work lol :) I think I've got an old Ibby distortion pedal lying around somewhere, so I might give it a go if I find the time - if so, I'll send you a message with the results ;) \m/

In your honest opinion , what is the ultimate metal amp ?.
JACKSONAXER 3 years ago
Im my honest opinion, I'm not sure I've found it yet lol ;)
As of now, I'm loving my VH4S the most. The Einstein's good, but I don't find it to be quite as defined or aggressive as the VH4S ... mind you, we're talking nuances here! ;) But the sheer brutality of chugging a low Bb power chord on the VH4S ripped wide open and physically punching me in the gut with every hit of the pick? FTW, my friend, FTW!! ;)

Hi Clive,
Awesome sounds. How do you feel the Diezel models like your VH4 compare to the Einstein in terms of overall sound and gain stage. I've read a few reviews saying the Einstein is really punchy sounding, but not as tight and in-your-face as the Herbert or the VH4.
Thanks.

That is a fucking beast of a guitar, good to hear the Diezel through an 8 string.
Could you possibly upload a video playing down on the 8th string a fair bit? Maybe play some Meshuggah if you're into them as well ;)
Opeth2012 3 years ago
I'm definitely going to be doing some more vids with the 8 :D \m/ ... I'm definitely used to having the extra string now and am working on more material making use of it, so there's certainly be more low riffage coming ;)
And yes, I'm also into Meshuggah, although I consider my style to be quite a bit different to theirs - I'm more into bigger chord voicings rather than single string riffing ... on an aside, isn't obZen simply an amazing, crushing, brutal, jaw dropping experience!?!?! \m/
C
CliveJevons 3 years ago
By the way, how the hell ARE you hitting those really high harmonics in the beginning off the what, low A or D string?
jongpilyun 3 years ago
:) Its 'just' a squeal on the first fret of the D string ... I'm not aware of doing anything out of the ordinary, though ...
\m/
Cheers,
C
CliveJevons 3 years ago
Holy shit dude, those are some killer harmonics you're hitting there.
Obviously I can't say how the sound would fit in the mix live, but it's a bit too fuzzy around the edges during the riffing, I think. On the other hand, I used to think that was the only bad quality of Loomis's (rhythm) tone, but that's been growing on me as well. Definitely not suited for tech death (from what I can tell) but definitely good for a lot of the more Suffocation style riffs.
jongpilyun 3 years ago
Thnx :)
Cheers,
