I'm definitely interested in HAM and CW as well. I know a guy who knows a guy who runs a semi-local radio club and has been doing it for many years. We've already talked about getting in touch to discuss all things HAM as an introductory thing, let's hope something comes out of it!
ive been interested for quite a while in ham radio. i was wondering if you could tell me where to start ( where do you buy equipment, licenses, etc) good vid!
Wow, you learn something new about technology everyday. I did not know they have something to count frequencies near by that are running, cool. I like your channel even more now.
I own two police scanners. I really enjoy them a lot, but don't listen to them all the time, because you will get depressed by what you hear after while.
I have a "scanner" for my iPod Touch. I work in a hospital x-ray department, and twice now I've been able to hear about incoming patients before the ER has by listening to the feed from the fire department. :-)
Plus, a decent 2 meter antenna can be small and easy to disguise, for those situations where you don't want to 'advertise' your capabilities. It can be as cheap and simple as a 19-inch piece of coathanger.
Hi Fred! I too am a Ham. It is very important for emergency communications that we have as many hams as possible to volunteer. Get involved with a club if possible,
I have the FRS handheld motorolas too. I probably paid too much back in the 90's, one of my first internet auctions I bid on. They do take 3 AA batteries, so they aren't as convenient as the rechargeable midland radios you see at outdoor world or cabelas, but will work with rechargeable batteries. I have a sears brand CB radio in the garage, and a few whip antennaes from my convoy days in the 70's. I miss my Cobra CB, I had sparky "open up". it would get out about 10 miles, and step on everybody
I have a set of the older FRS walkie talkies, like yours, and it is my understanding that regular AA batteries can be substituted if necessary. Never tried it... suppose I should.
CB radio is the way to go. ham is power less

@MrColoradowilderness The best place to start is to find a local ham radio club. Try to google words such as ham, radio, club and your location.
