Actually, you can apply DRY fertilizer in the rain as most are clay-based and require water to be released into the yard.
The problems stated in this video is all due to inexperienced people with no knowledge of how to apply fertilizers and herbicides. Thats why you should hire a professional lawn care service such as TruGreen (who I worked for the past three years) You should keep your pets off the lawn at least for 4-6 hours.
Get a clue. Fertilizer is nitrogen! The weed control joe blow uses has 2-4D in it. Most major companies don't use 2-4D for its known effects. But if you're going to go to this level, you might as well say to never go outside or dont eat because you might choke!
All lawn care companies use some kind of chemical weed control and/or chemical fertilizers. All are bad. Chemical fertilizer run off is a major cause of pollution in our lakes, streams, rivers etc. The pesticides applied pose many other concerns for people, pets and the environment. EPA testing is inedequate and inherently flawed since it is done in vacuum and not in any real world situations.
thats why you don't apply fertilizations and weed control to lawns when it's raining. to prevent off of chemicals. also, most major lawn care companies don't use pesticides that seep into ground water. as long as it has time to dry and/or dust settles, then it's safe for humans/animals
1. the reason all of the labels say its a hazard is to cover their butts in a legal case! humans and pets have natural allergic reactions to all sorts of things.
2. I deal with this exact issue every day. I have alot of concerned pet owners that I take care of the lawn for. So what I do to put their mind at ease is send out what's called the MSDS to their vet. It has a complete list of the products we put on the lawn. After they recieve it, they apologize for wasting my time.
No chemical is completely safe included what we wash our clothes with or even toothpaste has warnings not to ingest on it. More risk is from the misuse of a product. Also, dust is settles shortly after the granules are applied and is very minimal.
This is just stupid. Dont you think that if there was a problem with the chemicals that are used, the business would be illegal? And the "inert ingredients" ARE WATER!
Lets just think a minute... using your logic, then wouldn't cigarrettes be illegal? Wake up and smell the manure pal, fertilizers ARE killing our pets and NO, it won't be made illegal to sell them anytime soon because they are powerful and RICH companies who send lobbists to Washington to get clearance to sell POISON.
Pesticides are not safe, that is why they kill plants and animals. It's just a matter of degree - some are more toxic and last longer, but none are inert substances with no ill effects on life. Increasing pesticides in our water supply and food we eat (through bioaccumulation) is NOT a good thing.
if you want sick pets and even sicker kids, hire Chemlawn/Tru-Green.
