  • but will it run crysis?

  • @robotninjaassasin Who the fuck cares about that dumb ass video game?

  • Comment removed

  • @hakemon it was just a joke dude

  • @robotninjaassasin So was I, but I keep getting that same joke for the past 3 years, it's SO old by now, and annoying.

  • how do you get it online?

  • We had labs full of these in high school (1998 era)..yeah our school was behind. They network booted into a novell os and ran word perfect 5.1, no hard drives though. Now our state wholesale property is selling tons of these to the public for $10 each with keyboard...some are "eduquest" and others are various versions of the model 25, some color, some black and white. Baseband type network cards (use RJ12 instead of 45). Thanks for sharing! LOVE IT!

  • @Anubis737373

The minimum system Wolfenstein will play on is a 286, but somebody hacked it to work on an 8086. It's sloooooow, though.

  • Can it play *.MODs? My oldest computer is just 386DX/33mhz, so that's different thing ;)

  • Better than Virtual BOX, :S

Virtual BOX and Win.311 hate each other.

  • wow i love that computer!!!! :D

...the music reminds me of the good old gameboy-color =P

  • My first PC was an Escom (AMD) 80386 in 1992. That HDD-Noise was usefull. so you knew the system was busy ^^. Power supply fan rotated louder anyway. Today I can't even tell if my machine is switched on, because its so quiet.

  • MFM hard drives sound sort of like a floppy drive

  • I hate when people go around on old pc videos and ask if it can run crisis. So retarted.

  • @dq476 not to mention that it's so fucking lame! heck since when it was?

  • Can it run crysis?

  • Outstanding piece of hardware you have there. Thank you for sharing

  • Where can i get one of these?

  • Dude don't you ever get pissed of waiting for it to load and respawn?

  • A KEY?!?!? LOLZ

  • Now that, is a cool old IBM! I've never seen one like that one before. Towers, and wider models, but not that version!

I think it's funny that your 8086 loads the 'net through a modem faster than my Pentium II does through a LAN.

  • This thing needs a fucking key. Thats so damn awesome...

  • I miss the sound of floppy drives

  • you literly unlock it

  • is it possible to have viruses on it? :D

  • Dude it's the 21 century...Get a NORMAL PC!

Not a microwave with a screen on it!

And i loled so hard at the *BEEP* at the beginning :D

  • @speedfreak9961

Of course it's the 21st century, back before 2000, there was DOS, no android, Iphones, just computers, used for storing information, etc, computers didn't start when windows 7 came out

  • why did you put a key in there

  • can you watch youtube videos on there

  • Of course not..

  • @hakemon Maybe in 4 gray scales as a client

  • how did you upload the video on there

  • do you use the old mouse and keyboard whit the modern computer too?

  • you're hitting the keys like crazy ;-) in most cases a gentle pressing is enough...

  • Ugh man, is it bad that I remember using stuff like that, and old C64s because my school was poor as hell?

  • is windows 3.0 running in standard mode or enhanced mode just wondering

  • Neither, it's an 8086, therefore Real Mode..

  • Go into the BIOS and change the boot order. IBM has always been weird this way so I can't help you there..

  • I'm not mad.

  • Dude, an 8086 can't even run windows 3.1... You think it's going to run 95? No..

  • I would like to have one of these with a hard drive in it. They were cool little machines. The MCGA graphics were pretty good for the day and the screen was sharp and readable. I also like the form factor. Definitely prefer the color screen to the monochrome screen though

  • The color models didn't have such a good clear CRT as the monochrome models had.

Mine is upgraded to VGA via some hacking of wires and VGA card (because luckily the BIOS still looks for addon video cards).

  • all you have to do to quit dr is sware at him repiditly and he will termanate the program its in the code :)

  • Ok I give up, why did it have a key? Was this a security feature before password protection? I has an old Apple? gave to me once. I didn't know what it was, the screen and key board were in the same cabinet and when you typed the letters were green on a black background. Does anyone know what I'm blabbering on about ?

  • Oak Technology! Ahh memories. :)

Nice vid. Weird as they were, the PS/2 systems were near bulletproof and so well made. I still use a PS/2 keyboard with my current core2 duo desktop. :)

    Cheers, nice post.

  • cool man,,love it,i wish we still had ours, mine was slightly different, but it was the same model,286 and all,,i remember playing the sharreware version of wolfenstein 3d,and using prodigy to go on what internet we had at the time,,its great to see one still being actually used, brings back memories,

  • This model isn't 286 based. It's an 8086 based system, XT.

  • cool pc is a car

  • COOL VID .....A MILLION THX DUDE !!!!! i think IBM is totally king kong of all machines eveRRRR includin pc . inever had ur model ibm but i did hav several other ibm pc and they were all a joy ESPecially to fix i mean the engineering is superb simply d best i know of and i work on many diffferent company / brands . ok

  • Yeay i like old pcs because they ant complcated and they do stuf good.

    I still use my one

    5 stars.

  • it needs a fuckin key to turn it on

  • master what program are using in DOS to get access to the internet ?

  • he's not accessing the internet from this machine actually, he's connecting by telnet to another computer which probably runs some kind of *nix and then he's using that another computer to navigate the internet with lynx, this computer is actually just acting as a terminal, it just displays whatever the other computer send to it, you can access the internet with DOS, actually you can do it graphically but you need a more powerful one.

  • Lynx for DOS

    (just google search it)

  • Ha ha! What a loser. My IBM PS/2 30-286 owned that piece of crap you call a computer! Model 30 FTW!

  • Calling me a loser over what vintage computer I use is very foolish.

Think about it, you likely don't even use yours anymore day to day like I do with mine.

  • Sarcasm bro... sarcasm.

  • nice pc :)

  • I've used that exact same pc. When I was in first and second grade. I remember playing that one elf catching game on there were you had to solve their riddle and then you'd get points for it and when you go enough points you'd get to go up a ladder and open a chest. I also remember playing a game I think it was called Toggle ,and Oregon trail. I wanted to buy one of these puppies from my old school ,but they wouldn't sell it to me. I have so many fond memories of this machine. I wish I had one.

  • I Think Internet Explorer Will Run On Windows 3.0

  • No, and even if it did, it sure as hell wouldn't run on an 8086.

  • how did you get the internal monitor to work with vga?

  • Easy, the internal CRT has H Sync, V Sync, and LUMA.

I merely combined the RGB signals by using a weighted pulldown via resistors, attaching that to Luma, and then attaching H and V Sync directly to the CRT connection.

Can't use ANY resolution it didn't already do, as the CRT will immediately burn out. Example being EGA 350 line mode, that will fry the CRT immediately after a short cry from the tube itself.

  • stupid retard internet

  • windows 3.0 was a revolution ;)

  • is it in colour or black and white

  • color

  • no thats the amaican spelling im australian

  • The CRT on this machine is black and white. It contains no color.

  • This machine is black and white.

  • remember using this shit in school

not much use for it at all

  • sounds like the voice off of the movie war games

  • Nah. This voice is more deep. WarGames voice was metallic.

  • I like the 2 midi files that you play, where can i get it ? :)

    Thank

  • what kind of slots does it have in the mother Bord i own a model 90 with a 386 they are really rare but one problem i have is that it has some weird slots mca i think i don't know where to get hard ware for it i want to add in a video card and a Ethernet card

  • 8-bit ISA. This was the only PS/2 not to use MCA.

  • where will I be able to buy computers like this? I've been wanting an old computer for ages!

  • awesome!!!!!1

and it goes on freakin internet!!!!!!

  • its true ibms never die apart from my old thinkpad which locked itself and ibm said "you have no garranty so u have to buy a new one" i only had it 6 fucking months" tip dont by ibm laptops please!!!

  • This is the most amazing thing I've ever seen. I am very close to tears. God, I love computers.

  • How much would it cost for an old IBM like this one today lol. this is realy cool.

  • absolutely awsome i would love to have one of those lol the sound it makes is just cool. No kidding man nice computer.

  • Also, I wonder if you could run Tank Wars (BOMB), Scorched Earth, or some of those old games? I remember playing the very first Prince of Persia on a 286, and all the old King's Quests and Commander Keen 1. It's just not the same using DosBox as it is the real thing ;)

  • Scorched Earth will not work as it uses 350 line EGA modes, and this IBM's CRT does NOT support 350 line. Only 400/70Hz and 480/60Hz.

  • You're absolutely right. It sure is "not the same using DosBox as it is 'the real thing'". I REALLY want an old computer just like this one. Untl then, I'm forced to use that stupid DB to run DOS games. I don't see why everyone likes that program - all it is is a tool to run DOS games on newer computers. Nothing to really like. In fact, I'm planning on making a list of reasons why I hate DB. My main reason is that it isn't "the real thing".

  • And some more reasons include:

    It isn't an official program.

    It's a third-party program.

It has no affiliation with Microsoft, IBM, or any developers of DOS games.

    It's not American.

It was made by descendants of Nazis.

It doesn't run in full-screen by default.

You start the program with a drive that does not exist on your computer.

You have to mount a drive before you can use it.

  • Once you mount a particular directory in your C drive, you're stuck with that directory and any directories after it - you cannot go back from directory, not even with "cd..".

Some games, such as Return to Zork, have content that only works if the CD is in. But in DosBox, that content doesn't work even with the CD - you have to enter a command that goes something like "mount d d:\ -t cdrom usecd -ioctl".

  • The text is darker and shorter than it is in DOS.

There is a useless "status window" which, if closed, also closes the main program.

The first time I used DB, I found it nearly impossible to use because of the awkward mount system.

That's all I can think of for now.

  • Wait, I have another DB departure, but I'm not sure if it's true:

You can't play floppy games directly from the floppies; you have to copy the files to your hard drive. Which eliminates the "Please insert Disk X" screens. As annoying as those screens could be, they're nostalgic. I have a downloaded copy of Lesiure Suit Larry 3 on my modern computer. I have a friend who has the original LSL3 floppies and an actual DOS computer.

  • Last month, I went over to my friend's house and played LSL3 in its full nostalgic glory, complete with NES-style music and the "Insert Disk X" screens. Now, DosBox has made it so you never run into those screens - bad because those screens were a feature of DOS games.

  • If the DB team is reading anything here: You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

  • And yet another problem: It runs even when minimised! DOS doesn't do that!

  • ANOTHER problem: The 0 is different from DOS's 0. DOS's 0 has a slash, DB's 0 has a dot that doesn't touch the main 0!

  • Comment removed

  • And how could I forget this one: With the DIR command, DB capitalises the word "bytes" (DOS doesn't) and also adds a full stop (which DOS doesn't have).

  • And another one: they changed the messages that you get for bad commands/file names, not specifying a file to delete, etc.

  • That program I remember a LONG time ago. I had a 286 with a sound blaster compatible. It reminds me of Elisa, (can't remember exact name), but it would talk to you and get input.

  • wow its amazing how win 3 works so well with so little. these were true machines.

  • Haha I used one of these throughout grade school. Playing Oregon Trail was the best!

  • dude i played that only we used mac i hate mac

  • beautiful computer!!

  • is that still the same hard drive?

  • Yes

  • Why do you have that key? All it takes is to disconnect one wire from the motherboard, and it'll be entirely disabled.

  • Incorrect. That lock also locks down the system case, it can't be taken apart when locked, making the whole system fairly secure enough that a crook is just going to give up. Let alone them actually care for something so old.

  • It's nice to see I'm not alone in putting old DOS boxes to use. I think I'll attempt to put the IBM XT I have online up tonight.

  • I'm going to make a vid exclusive to this thing on the net.

I cheated "slightly" though. You can speed up the text browser by simply telnetting into a PC running a telnet server, with lynx. A server of which that is far faster, like a 486.. In my case, I telnetted into the homes domain controller.

It still makes it "technically" online, it's just a terminal/mainframe relationship.

  • OMG! i'm so jealous...

kudos on getting online with it. do you think it will be possible to run internet explorer 5 on it? (microsoft released a version for windows 3.1)

  • It's running Windows 3.0, not 3.1...

IE 5 requires a 486 I think. This CPU is only 16-bits, and technically an 186 (upgrade).

  • Do you think it might be possible to upgrade to Win3.1 on that machine?

  • No, that requires a 286 or higher. This system is NOT a 286 class machine. Windows 3.0 is the highest.
