  • I've got reflective satellite dishes and fresnel lenses all over the place. I took out the heat exchangers from a dehumidifier small ones and they would work nice for this and thought about it spray them black with high temp paint run a pump and like you go for itl. Its a nice water heating system.

  • Thanks! I have considered an Air Conditioner A-coil, Perhaps just half of it.. I will be trying other rigs because I want to go a bit larger for future experiments.. My next item is another parabolic mirror. The more the better!

  • Nice work .. Bigger and badder is needed tho i reccon .. Boiling a few drips at a time into a hot steam and collected would be great for building up a nice stash of piping hot water. some realy fine pipes might help .. I found very fine 2mm copper tube on an old fridge system just out of interest . 5/5 mate

  • I agree with you, somewhat.. I want to go double in size and have 2 mirrors or just a larger one with a fresnel for the top.. I am also debating to try a clear bottom pyrex first and paint all the pipes flat black, I could also try a fresnel lens at the top for this. I want to use the same thickness in pipe and make about 4 x's the rounds... I will start at the bottom, and overlap with a second set of rounds for the top.. More oil, but also more heating with another mirror or a bigger one.

  • If I reduce the thickness in pipe, again I reduce the amount of possible flow. I think it is reasonable.. Reduced flow means more time for water to cool off in container. This has a reasonable flow allowance. I wouldn't go less, unless it was strictly used for steam, then for sure ;)

  • I will probably just go for a second mirror initially because I do not want the temp in one area to get too high causing the pyrex to melt.

  • This thickness is well suited for both steam and hot water, given the amount of flow, and the amount of heat... This is a prototype to show how cheaply this can be done, and to see even more impressive results (about double this size) will still be very cheap.. Under 100$ for everything! Much under if you reuse things. My next project with this will be double this, around 4x's the coils and lots more oil! I will have more surface to heat so I'll need bigger or one more mirror.

  • Humm Ya know that is a good set up there. If you could heat enough water you could make a steam generator for power. Great video.

  • Definately could. I can get steam with this if I reduce the flow to very slow droplets. So it could easily have 2 purposes. Also, I could seal both ends, and hold at most half the pipe with water, so the rest of the space will be for steam, and have a pressure guage so I know when the pressure is strong enough. Also for saftety reasons. Steam is very powerful! One other thing that would be highly usefull is And Auto Refill System, that only adds specific amounts of water, so their's always space
