Asmara is definitely one of the most cleanliness cities in Africa. I will be visiting Asmara next summer, and I'm very excited about traveling to the entire horn of Africa region.

I had the great pleasure of making friends with many Eritreans in Santa Clara, California. I am American, of half Italian origin, and all the Eritreans told me that the Italians built grand edifices, roads, and hospitals in Eritrea, AND many Italians married Eritreans and their children still live in Eritrea to this day! Ethnically, I believe Eritrea is relatively diverse, however Eritrea is still a country to this day, because its people fought a long, bloody war with Ethiopia for their independence not because they were so different from Ethiopians. To me, if the people care enough to sacrifice their comfort and possibly even their lives to be their own country then they deserve to be independent. Your point is moot, ethnic differences don't always fuel rebellions.
