Believe it or not, Luigi was originally greedy and snobbish, but later, those traits were changed and given to Wario. That, and Wario was even given the yellow shirt.

Mario on the other hand had a blue hat to match his overalls. This movie was released in 1986 which is after Super Mario Bros on the Famicom.

Dude it's Japanese Anime This was created by the time Luigi was. The time they made this Luigi didn't have an official color for anything so they mixed it up with him.

he's blue and yellow because this was a japanese cartoon made a looong time ago. and while the tried making a brother for mario, they wanted some significant diffrences between them. so the thats 1 reason. and if you had mario's red color switched to an oppisite color pallete, it would be green. but yeah they went with yellow instead cause they didn't think green looked good at the time
