The reason for the V6 is simple..it fits in the engine bay like it was meant to be there!
The amount of work involved in fitting the Tigers V8 engine in is staggering..and you need to change to the tigers rack and pinion steering (believe me they are like finding chicken lips) because the V8 wont fit round the Alpines recurculating ball unit. If you want a laugh just watch a tiger owner trying to change spark plugs!!
So, it revs high and has a loud exhaust note. It is more than a match for a lowly 4cyl dog. Great. It would trashed by a 3.6 liter (221ci) 1962 Ford V8. (The smallest Ford V8 made at the time) And, big deal, you planted a 21st century engine in an old sled. Congrats.
I'm inheriting one of these... to build from the ground up... It's literally a body with a ton of parts. Any major tips before I start on it? I know nothing about cars, but I have the shop manual...
@badskwrl conversion? Try a 4 CYL 2.3 liter PINTO engine, with dual Webers, that will blow that V6 off the bleedin track. Are all you 20 year-olds that stupid?

wtf happend to the 289 that is supposed to be in that?
happyman199 1 year ago
@happyman199 This is an Alpine,it came with a 4 cyl. The Tiger came with the 260 or 289 V8's. Completely different animal.

@happyman199 "Alpines" didn't come with any powerful engine ever. They were strictly an underpowered little pig, that were able to corner a bit.

bitchin sound!!! lol
nitrojoe9 2 years ago
@nitrojoe9 Try the "bitchin" sound of a 427 Ford at 3000 - 6000 revs, as came in the real Cobras. (same dang basic sled thing as a Tiger)

Beautiful! The V6 is the engine the Alpine should have had from the beginning. Nice work on the conversion.
