Interesting race. Impressed by the astra considering it's a heavier car and probably has whatever gearbox vauxhall had lying around. The puma is based on a fiesta after all. The vauxhall engine is a torquey beast so interval times may be in the astras favour. It would be unfair to compare handling though as the mk5 fiesta chassis in the puma is a good 'un and ford tuned it well. It's design brief was to be a drivers car whereas i would imagine the coupe was just designed to move cars.

ford use more of there own engines then other people the only diesal engines they use from other companies are the 1.6 and 2.0 even then they are a joint effort by ford and Citroen/peugoet the only petrol they use from another company is the 2.5

It is an A++ at accelerating from 70MPh
@swez2000 an fr diesel is 150bhp it would wipe most things... dont always go by what sites say.... my old corsa was over a second faster 0-60 that it was suposed to be (completly standard).

I currently own a 1.8 astra coupe and it isnt as fast as my 1.8 focus was off the mark (especially after i fitted a decat and 4 branch manifold to the focus). However, above 120 the bertone is relentless and keeps pulling all the way to 135 mph... It might have a more slippery shape, i'e' a lower drag coefficient. By the book my astra does 0-60 mph in 8.5 and the 1.8 focus was 9.8, but my focus was much quicker off the line.

ford use more of there own engines then other people the only diesal engines they use from other companies are the 1.6 and 2.0 even then they are a joint effort by ford and Citroen/peugoet the only petrol they use from another company is the 2.5

Your entitled to your own opinion and yes some older ford's have reliabiltiy problems but so does most older car's. a pinto is a late 80's engine? my dad had a mondeo zetec and it ran 280,000 miles? You can say what you like but the numbers and figures show that ford are more reliable than their competition, your biased opinion will never change that.

Neither, just cheap reliable motoring, just because you can't see past the end of your nose doesn't mean im lying, we also had a Sierra 1.8 that ran 170k with no trouble, just regular oil changes and services. My brother had a fiesta for his first car and that was fine and then an escort which also had no problems. My mums best friend has a 2001 Astra 1.416v shes had endless engine problems with it! burnt the cyliner head out 3 times and now the engine keeps randomly cutting out like every 4 minutes! incase you didn't see any of my own videos, I had a Ford Transit connect 1.8 Tddi work van for a year and a half and I had no problems with it exept for the sidelight playing up and the windscreen wipers falling off in torrential rain - that was a hilerious moment! Ive had my laughs in a Ford but I wouldn't buy one cos I don't trust them

Well that's your beef with ford, Ford's are cheap, reliable and nice to drive and tick all the right boxes, nearly ALL of the european and American population agree, even though fords are below par in the states. Just because you had a couple of faults with a van you decide to insult there entire range and history, to me this shows a complete lack of understanding, vauxhall's are not comparable to Ford, Ford are way higher up the market now chasing the sights of german rivals such as VW and BMW.

Because most vauxhall's are rep mobiles used for long journeys and cover good mileage which hold's their value, but when you split hairs and compare the little differences the Ford shapes up better.
Honestly, read this years AutoCar 2009 car reviews, 100 cars rated by the public for things such as performance and ride, The highest vauxhall was the new Corsa in 47th place, the highest Ford was the Mondeo in 12th. The new astra was 86th and the Vectra was 97th! Overall Ford was 21st and Vxl 33rd.

I guess mines quite quick but its missing a great deal of potential. 1.4 16V corsas and 1.6 16V escorts and Rovers never seem to be very far behind me in my mirror when i rip through 1,500-4,000 RPM on full throttle at 0-60 which dissapoints me as it is supposed to be 150Bhp but then again. It is an A++ at accelerating from 70MPh

I currently own a 1.8 astra coupe and it isnt as fast as my 1.8 focus was off the mark (especially after i fitted a decat and 4 branch manifold to the focus). However, above 120 the bertone is relentless and keeps pulling all the way to 135 mph... It might have a more slippery shape, i'e' a lower drag coefficient. By the book my astra does 0-60 mph in 8.5 and the 1.8 focus was 9.8, but my focus was much quicker off the line.

The Puma is a small car. The Astra is a family car. The Astra is bigger. Race a 1.6 100 Fiesta and a 1.8 120 Astra. They will accelerate evenly. Now make it a 1.7 120 Fiesta and a 1.8 120 Astra. Thats why the Pumas faster! I think Ford owners need to go to motor college and learn about vehicle physics. because the Puma isn't an Astra rival, its a corsa rival so get your facts right thicko, ps Astra did very well against the Puma.
