I would seriously like to know how posting a video of la bamba's original recording session where it's not even the song straight through affects' WMG's profits or intellectual rights. You know WMG, since you are a douchebag company that doesn't post this stuff for us, that's why we have to post it! It would be different if the company posted it but they don't!
YOU silly IDIOTS-after a time in excess of 25 years, shouldn't this go down as sort of a "fair use act" Item??? WMA, you are not doing yourselves any favors with this; in fact, you are figuratively shooting yourselves in the foot-kinda hard to attract new Ritchie Valens fans this way!!! You all are pathetic!
well considering copyright can't go over 25years wouldn't this have expired before any extensioned applied? Ownersihp in our country doesn't exist after copy write orginally because societies are based on the information spreading through it. it's not supposed to be owned indefinetely. they don't own it period.
This is causing great harm to Ritchies legacy how are younger generations in the future generation descover his music? they wont bee able to if WMG keeps on taking them down.
Fuck you WMG you are putting a legends legacy at risk and for what? just because you supposidly "own" the rights to it, all waht WMG cares about is money and themselves =(
Yeah.... Right... You'd think WMG had made ENOUGH MONEY off this Poor Guy's Legacy.... I'd bet they'd sell Chips of Black Marble off his Head Stone if they had the chance.!!
@walt7500 Walt, when it was here with sound, several posts suggested very rare. It is the actual session where it was put together. It's very stupid what WMG is doing. I agree with the copyright, but this music can't be bought in any music store! They just don't sell this kind of music. They just sell the "commercial" music.
WMG is shooting itself in the foot. Why doesn't it advertise its music on this site instead. There is so much music I wouldn't even know existed if it wasn't for Youtube.
its called an internet download manager. DL the videos you want from here as soon as you see it, and keep them for when commie pricks such as these take and don't give back. I will upload this song as soon as I can to Rapidshare. Till then, there's keepvid . com.
Get them while they're hot, fyi it's .flv format and you need either VLC player or FLV player unless you convert it to Mpeg.
'Commie pricks'..? I think you'll find it's 'capitalist breadheads' who pull these vids... 'Commies' as you call them would be distributing these for free. They don't believe in gratuitously lining the pockets of one person at the expense of another...
I think Ritchies family should get the rights to this DEMO, and be able to market it to further promote him and any foundations that were started in his name.!!!!!!This is Ritchies WORK and HIS FAMILY SHOULD BE COMPESATED NOT WMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a nice video ... I love the lyrics on 2:30 also on 3:40 and 5:70 LoL..... The companys take fool of you.... SHEEEEEPSS... Lol... when you will wake up... ? But its not here.... it is in general !!! You let your rights be taken everywhere... From your boss that should pay you the money you agreed to your mother that invades your private place..... YOU FOOLS. They take advange of your permissivness.... HERE..ENJOY LA BAMBA FOR DEAF PEOPLE
Eh.. Warner Music Groups stocks are plunging... can you blame them trying to make a buck? Screw that, this is music. Should be free to enjoy. Corporate America go to hell.
With the anniversary of the death of Valens, Richardson and Holly just 2 days away, I thought this video was worth a re-visit. To learn that it has been removed due to alleged copyright infringement is more than disappointing--it's grievous. You'd think anyone with sensibility would have left the damned thing on here for at least the next several days. I have to wonder if the new Administration has already let its corporate lawyer dogs loose! If so, the 'honeymoon' is, indeed, over.
While i don't actually think this is a better copy of the song then the actual final product i do think that the mixing in of the vocals maybe why it sounds clearer? I have this on CD and love it but i admit i do hear a diff but dont think its cause of foul play. Thanks for the upload!
Or, if you have parents who grew up in the 50's, they will verify his talents and that he actually played it in the studio. There was no overdubbing back then.
This recording is incredible... However, I have been playing the actual record in my office all damn day and I find it quite peculiar how this recording sounds better then the actual recording???? I have many years experience in the music business working with top producers like Bruce Dickinson and I having trouble believing this! That can't be my Ritchie!!! Ritchie!
It sounds better because it's from the master tape. If you have been in the music business a long time you should know these masters are copied immediately and protectedlike gold after that. It should sound pristine because it was in storage, untouched for decades.
hey look, Mr mb7668, if we wanted your input, we would've asked for it. Who are to question OTMP's music business experience? OTMP is the biggest and baddest musical genious in all of Clarksville, Indiana. Not only is he tight with Bruce Dickinson, but he once dated John Cougar's best friend's, niece's, cousin. What are your credentials? Yea, that's what I thought! I'm going to need you to go ahead and stop commenting on other's comments, until you can pony up some proper credentials. Thanks.
Maybe I know something more about how records were made back in 1958 than he does??
First generation copies were immediately made of master tapes. Disc dubs were made from first generation copies, and records pressed from disc dubs. Master tapes were always protected like gold. Anyone who is questioning the authenticity of this master because it sounds too good is not informed.
hey look, my friend , who a big shot in the music industry, listen and listen and listen to this, and then listen to actual song and back and forth he go. And after much thought, and back and forth deliberation, taking bass sound, reverb sound, string intonations and deicbal levels, he only got one ting to say. He say, 'THAT'S MY RICHIE!!!'
I play guitar and i am not a lead player, BUT, i could easily play this solo, it's simple enuf, so i have no problem believing that Ritchie did this lead even if he was not yet accomplished. That's my 2 cents. Thanks for this! Priceless! The movie just ran here on TV. I always sob at the ending. What a loss. Peace.
I started out trying to disprove it was Ritchie on the lead, but after listening to this studio take a number of times, where it is undusputed his guitar follows Hall's opening,and hearing his other guitar work on early demo's, he sounds like he has the chops to pull it off; anyway, fun to conjecture on all of this;
Except if you go to the Youtube video "Ritchie Valens performs La Bamba Live", the solo is omitted. That could be evidence that Ritchie did not play it in the studio, either, and it was an overdub by Hall.
Just received the cd that this is on, "the lost tapes"; the liner notes are dated April, 1992; there are four studio La Bamba tracks, including the one posted here; this is no fake. Rene Hall is usually credited with the solo, but it is obvious Riche did it, as Hall was on the baritone, and is prominent throughout; by the way, Earl Palmer died recently, may he rest in peace with the other greats.
Rene Hall is heard on the opening notes playing the Danelectro guitar and continue with that distinctive baseline throught the song. If he also plays the solo on lead guitar it had to have been overdubbed, which is possible, of course. He certainly was a lot more accomplished than Ritchie - a very experienced session musician in his forties when this was done. The person who would know for sure would be Bob Keane.
this is very much real, it is from the fairly recently released cd, The Ritchie Valens Story [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED], track 8. La Bamba (Gold Star Recording Session)
cool you can believe what you want but dont post something that aint true or authentic, i hear steel drums, i hear multiple mics being used (when at that time most bands surrounded 1 mic when recording or playing live)and it sounds too clean, no hiss, no pops and instruments are in clarity...pretty good recording but i'm not convinced this is 1958 technology or actual ritchie valens recordings...
i've been doing music for years, i have a trained ear to pick out instruments, there are steel drums in there!i know there is...you can believe what you want to believe but i dont believe this is actually a 1958 recording...just because its been sitting in a vault means nothing, tapes deteriorate over time...why do u think they re-master old recordings, you bring me "ANY" professional recording artist in 1958 your choice and lets compare until then i will never believe to be "ACTUAL" recordings
IT SOUNDS TO CLEAN TO BE 1958 TECHNOLOGY! but the best part is if you listen closely there are keyboards playing steel drums???? the first keyboard wasn't produced until the 1970's??? explain that!!!
i would'nt believe anything you buy on Amazon is authentic...
There aren't any keyboards playing steel drums. I don't know what you think you're hearing, but this is the lineup on La Bamba per Bob Keane, Ritchie's manager: Buddy Clark, string bass; Ernie Freeman, piano; Carol Kaye, rhythm guitar; Rene Hall, Danelectro guitar (a six string bass which you hear immediately in the intro; Earl Palmer, drums; Ritchie Valens, vocals, guitar. This is definitely authentic, as you even hear someone say "Rene", referring to the guitarist.
i'm not convinced that this is the real deal...this is not 1958 tecnology! listen to "I Love Lucy" episodes(which came out around this time), Desi used the best Mics and Film to capture and preserve the show for the long run, why do you think Lucy still runs with clarity today than any other show made in that time? my point is the best lucy show preserved and re-mastered doesnt sound as clean as this recording...
These are from master tapes that sat in storage untouched for decades. They should sound clean. You're trying to compare them to old Lucy films that have run forever on TV?
this aint no recording in 1958...there's no hiss and the bass sounds to clear to be 1958 technology...i've been recording music for 17 years....i dont remember hearing steel drums keyboards in 1958 recordings...these guys suck anyways, i think ritchie would know how to start the song...
This is one of the most important and historically significant sequences ever posted to Youtube. It's a privilege to be able to witness this process "in the raw". Truely, history being made. Thank you so much for posting. If you can post any additional info about the history of this recording and how it came to be here, I'd be very grateful to read it. A classic in the "making", literally.
"La Bamba" is a folk song whose origins can be traced to the Mexican state of Veracruz over 300 years ago!!! (<----fuck). It is best known from a 1958 adaptation by Ritchie Valens, a top 40 hit in the the U.S. charts and one of early rock and roll's best-known songs.
Don't put it up if you can't play it. what kind of shit is that?

While i don't actually think this is a better copy of the song then the actual final product i do think that the mixing in of the vocals maybe why it sounds clearer? I have this on CD and love it but i admit i do hear a diff but dont think its cause of foul play. Thanks for the upload!

Those producers need to shut up and let him play.

Or, if you have parents who grew up in the 50's, they will verify his talents and that he actually played it in the studio. There was no overdubbing back then.
jannywhoohoo 3 years ago 2
Yes, there was overdubbing back then. They were using 3-track machines in 1958.

Ritchie!
OTMP 3 years ago
OTMP: Maybe you are just wishing for more cowbell, per the request of Bruce Dickinson. :O)
jannywhoohoo 3 years ago
It sounds better because it's from the master tape. If you have been in the music business a long time you should know these masters are copied immediately and protectedlike gold after that. It should sound pristine because it was in storage, untouched for decades.
mb7668 3 years ago 3
hey look, Mr mb7668, if we wanted your input, we would've asked for it.

Peace.
ZANTEDESH 3 years ago
I started out trying to disprove it was Ritchie on the lead, but after listening to this studio take a number of times, where it is undusputed his guitar follows Hall's opening,and hearing his other guitar work on early demo's, he sounds like he has the chops to pull it off; anyway, fun to conjecture on all of this;
bayouman1952 3 years ago
Except if you go to the Youtube video "Ritchie Valens performs La Bamba Live", the solo is omitted. That could be evidence that Ritchie did not play it in the studio, either, and it was an overdub by Hall.
mb7668 3 years ago
Just received the cd that this is on, "the lost tapes"; the liner notes are dated April, 1992; there are four studio La Bamba tracks, including the one posted here; this is no fake. Rene Hall is usually credited with the solo, but it is obvious Riche did it, as Hall was on the baritone, and is prominent throughout; by the way, Earl Palmer died recently, may he rest in peace with the other greats.
bayouman1952 3 years ago 4
Rene Hall is heard on the opening notes playing the Danelectro guitar and continue with that distinctive baseline throught the song. If he also plays the solo on lead guitar it had to have been overdubbed, which is possible, of course. He certainly was a lot more accomplished than Ritchie - a very experienced session musician in his forties when this was done. The person who would know for sure would be Bob Keane.

Amazing. History in the making. I recognized that danelectro bass guitar, which you can also hear in his other song, "We belong together".

cool you can believe what you want but dont post something that aint true or authentic, i hear steel drums, i hear multiple mics being used (when at that time most bands surrounded 1 mic when recording or playing live)and it sounds too clean, no hiss, no pops and instruments are in clarity...pretty good recording but i'm not convinced this is 1958 technology or actual ritchie valens recordings...
dont believe it people!
31funk 3 years ago
NO STEEL DRUMS!! That is a PIANO!!! This is real.
mb7668 3 years ago 2
i've been doing music for years, i have a trained ear to pick out instruments, there are steel drums in there!i know there is...you can believe what you want to believe but i dont believe this is actually a 1958 recording...just because its been sitting in a vault means nothing, tapes deteriorate over time...why do u think they re-master old recordings, you bring me "ANY" professional recording artist in 1958 your choice and lets compare until then i will never believe to be "ACTUAL" recordings
31funk 3 years ago
IT SOUNDS TO CLEAN TO BE 1958 TECHNOLOGY! but the best part is if you listen closely there are keyboards playing steel drums???? the first keyboard wasn't produced until the 1970's??? explain that!!!
i would'nt believe anything you buy on Amazon is authentic...
31funk 3 years ago

31funk 3 years ago
These are from master tapes that sat in storage untouched for decades. They should sound clean. You're trying to compare them to old Lucy films that have run forever on TV?
mb7668 3 years ago
what kind of amp was he using in this ........sounds like a lot of reverb didnt think the bassman had reverb if thats what it is..anyone ??

this aint no recording in 1958...there's no hiss and the bass sounds to clear to be 1958 technology...i've been recording music for 17 years....i dont remember hearing steel drums keyboards in 1958 recordings...these guys suck anyways, i think ritchie would know how to start the song...

So La Bamba was written BEFORE Twist and Shout?! Wow, that's major! GO RITCHIE!
