@angelhawk64 I remember the commentator on the BBC saying that the spray was reel. It was jets of water that were timed to spray when the whale graphics passed over them. It was truly fantastic to watch. It's amazing what technology can now do.
Aside from K.D. Lang singing, this few seconds was breathtaking. Unexpected brilliance and beauty. The spray looks so real. The delay until the crowd realizes what they are looking at, and then the roar of recognition.... truly fabulous.
Politically, definitely not proud of being Canadian...Geographically, and socially...fuck yea, we rule.....

I could be mistaken but I believe the whales were projected on the floor. The simulation of the blow holes was done from beneath the stage.
