Amazingly, I breezed through this battle because I somehow unlocked the Lucky 7s trick in the middle of it. You weren't kidding, Final Fantasy 7 really DOES make it easy to get ridiculously powerful!
It doesn't take that long to get 4x-Cut. If you go to THAT room in the Northern Cave, you can get 3 mastered Double Cuts (and a bunch of Counter=Mimes if you're so inclined) in way under the time it takes to get KOTR.
you should equip Apocalypse to Cloud and Scimitar to Cid. They have Triple Growth and fight Magic Pot and Movers in the Northern Crater. They give 3000 - 5000 AP. That's my advice. :)

the final attack materia is very useful. combine it with the phoenix summoning materia. when you die the character will summon the phoenix which then revives all down allies.
@MrMK109 Hey wait.. can you actually use Life with Final Attack? It's Final ATTACK, so does it attack the enemies with Life? I haven't got Final Attack yet, so I don't know about that.
LOL if the game designers didn't want us to get the Special Battle early or fight Ultimate Weapon early (after defeating Diamond Weapon in Disc 2) then they should have made it so that we have to wait until Disc 3 lol
@drkcrstl Watch Episode 108 of HC's walkthrough. You can learn it from Ultimate Weapon, and yeah you can also learn it from Sephiroth's Second form if you decide to wait that long.
I have 4x cut...it is rediculously strong especially when your clouds lvl 80 from trying to get master materia with triple growth weapons then realizing your way overpowered and doesn't matter. and when you have the ultima weapon with full life. i deal about 40,000 damage per turn its really game breaking. and faster then kor.
Maybe this is just my thoughts...but i think the special battle should consist of all the bost battles in the game(minus emerald weapon, and ruby weapon)...but yes i think ultimate weapon, safer sephiroth, bizarro sephiroth, all the jenovas and the actual sephiroth(like the final battle in the game but he should have more HP)
Actually, that only breaks the game if you leveled up Phoenix or have a Master Summon materia equipped at the same time to remove the summon limit. Even then, MP cost is still a factor.
Now, suppose you used the HP/MP swapping materia along with that combination or a Final Attack + Life2 combination. Why, you'd be immortal! (Although your Limit Break would probably remain empty forevermore...)
Indeed you can. I've used it with Bahamut ZERO a number of times. All the boredom of watching Knights of the Round's summon animation for the sixteenth time, with only a quarter of the brokenness! HUZZAH!

No, you're good to go. I don't even think you have to have the Ultima Weapon or W-Summon equipped, and I don't think you have to have used the Omnislash "potion" used on Cloud. I think you just have to have all obtained all of those things.
You ask me, the easiest way to get a ribbon is to have Yuffie with the Conformer use Morph on a certain knife wielding monster in the final dungeon, seeing as the Conformer will override Morph's reduced damage effect. Yeah, cheap.

Its handy, but sometimes can be ridiculously powerful... if you have a mastered Phoenix Materia linked to a mastered Final Attack materia (and you keep your MP up), then you pretty much will have five "do-overs" so to speak, not counting the start of the battle.
Reloading savestates until he gets a non-detrimentally annoying penalty because the battle square is gay. But he has a Ribbon anyway so it doesn't matter, it's just so he doesn't have to use ethers to restore MP or what-have-you. With his set up you could basically just put a rock on the X button and go make dinner, come back and you'd win.
I love your materia and gear set ups. Reminds me of the absurd one I used to have where Yuffie countered with Ultima 8 times if she got hit. ;x

HCBailly, has this ever happened to you during your battle-square times? I grinding for Omnislash and W-Summon, and a few times already, the slot only has 1 option (Like all 3 is Weapon Break or Command Materia break) and give no chance of variety. It's happen to me numerous of times and always screws me over. Is this a glitch or Squares way of telling you to get out of the battle square?
This has probably been posted by other people already, but Final Attack-Phoenix is a useful combo. Unless you just don't die, then its a waste of slots.

You know, for some reason I've never managed to successfully emulate a PSX FF game. FFVII wouldn't show the FMV graphics at all. FFVIII wouldn't download from any of the sites I tried to get it from. And FFIX crashed when you board the airship at Dali. And (with the exception of FFVIII) this happened even when I used the discs :/

In the Mega Man Battle Network and Star Force games auras work pretty much like that--they render you invincible unless the enemy deals an amount of damage over what the aura protects you from, and anything under won't do any harm to you whatsoever. Unfortunately, the second-last boss of both Battle Network 2 and Battle Network 3 uses this, which is a pain in the ass.
you know, you can get quadruple cut pretty easily in the crater, in that weird pool area with the bouncing red ball thingies, the tonberries, and the especially the magic pots
In terms of pure physical defense, Ziedrich has the most, but that really doesn't mean much late game. At this point, since magic defense is bugged, magic evade is the most important stat to consider, which the Mystile has the most.
you actually can use quadra magic with summons, I think u need it to be upgraded at least twice, I just went in the crater and used the Apocalypse and the javelin i think it is to get it up quick, also if u master it it does magic 8x

If one were to use Big guard (Haste/MBarrier/Barrier) then immediately after use Regen, does that blunt the regeneration rate of Regen? I could have sworn that it did....
If you aren't sure, then I would give it a shot (since my PS1 isn't working currently :P) and it may slightly alter how you go through FF7 again :)
I ain't sure what you're trying to ask there, but being in Haste makes Regen recover your HP more quickly, though it will wear off sooner.
A round of Regen always lasts as long as it would take to fill your HP up from 1 to full, ignoring damage. This means that if you're on 1 HP, your maximum is 1000, and you take 100 damage along the way, you'll ultimately get 900 HP back.

Quardra works with Bahamut Zero, as does the knights of the round, I've used both on my old save file, I've never tried any of the other summons though, and I actually never used my quadra magic, with any normal magic lol, I just though oooo power and went right to the summons.
Where do I get shadow flare on disc 2 ? I thought it was only available in the north cave... also, how do I equip catastrophe on barret ? What do I need ?
If you choose to go after Ultimate Weapon, you can get it from him. I think Shadow Flare, like 80% of the attacks FF7 in general, is extremely overpowered.
For Catastrophe, you have to have learn all his other limit breaks before "equipping" it.
As for Shadow Flare, you can learn it from Dragon Zombie in The Crater or Ultima Weapon. Also you can learn it from the last boss, but it's basically useless then.
So, now you have death counter like a lot of the bosses in this game. hey, what happens if you use it with a metaria that has multiple moves like Enimy skill? how does it decide wich to use?
I remember doing the special battle at the battle square, but I don't remember grinding out all those battle points..and of the special battles, I only remember going up against Proud Clod..
I distinctly remember getting Final Attack, though..and yes, it is a literal lifesaver when equipped correctly.
I didn't use regen all that much in FF6; all I usually needed was lots of Cure3 (either from casters or Gau raging Magic Pot) or White Wind when I needed something that would go through Wall.
The spell you describe actually exists in FFXI- it's called Dread Spikes, and functions as a drain effect so naturally doesn't work on undead. But it does exactly what you said, any time you take damage it immediately drains that amount from the enemy, so the only way to kill you is to deal more than your current HP. It'll wear off after draining a specific amount though.
you should check out the overflow video It actually shows one of the weapons being defeated in one character turn you'll go OMG cause the damage is so high it glitches

Proud Clod must have even more HP than the final boss, if it could survive gratuitous Double Cuts AND an Omnislash.
Safer Sephiroth would have taken about a third of the time to kill.

Actually, Quadra Magic is compatible with almost all of the Summons, except for KotR. Even Bahamut ZERO is compatible.

You know, for some reason I've never managed to successfully emulate a PSX FF game. FFVII wouldn't show the FMV graphics at all. FFVIII wouldn't download from any of the sites I tried to get it from. And FFIX crashed when you board the airship at Dali. And (with the exception of FFVIII) this happened even when I used the discs :/

Actually, I thought that you could quadra magic some summons like bahamut-zero...you just can't do it with KOtR 'cuz of the high mp isn't it? Maybe i'm wrong but that's what i thought -- haven't played ff7 in years

In the Mega Man Battle Network and Star Force games auras work pretty much like that--they render you invincible unless the enemy deals an amount of damage over what the aura protects you from, and anything under won't do any harm to you whatsoever. Unfortunately, the second-last boss of both Battle Network 2 and Battle Network 3 uses this, which is a pain in the ass.

Actually... iirc that 9999 dmg attack is actually dependent on how much materia you have equipped.
So you have to fight him with less than 9 materia pieces equipped (depending on your HP of course.)

Haha yeah I was always annoyed by that attack -- air tam storm right? Deals 1111 damage per materia you got equipped.

you know, you can get quadruple cut pretty easily in the crater, in that weird pool area with the bouncing red ball thingies, the tonberries, and the especially the magic pots

The best armor has to be Ziedrich in terms of defense.
You can steal 2-3 of them from the Turk fights later on in the game.

In terms of pure physical defense, Ziedrich has the most, but that really doesn't mean much late game. At this point, since magic defense is bugged, magic evade is the most important stat to consider, which the Mystile has the most.

you actually can use quadra magic with summons, I think u need it to be upgraded at least twice, I just went in the crater and used the Apocalypse and the javelin i think it is to get it up quick, also if u master it it does magic 8x

I always did Final Attack Phoenix so I didnt have to waste a turn bringing someone back to life only to have them killed again in the next turn

I do have a question for the most awesome HC.....or to anyone that can answer.
If one were to use Big guard (Haste/MBarrier/Barrier) then immediately after use Regen, does that blunt the regeneration rate of Regen? I could have sworn that it did....
If you aren't sure, then I would give it a shot (since my PS1 isn't working currently :P) and it may slightly alter how you go through FF7 again :)

I ain't sure what you're trying to ask there, but being in Haste makes Regen recover your HP more quickly, though it will wear off sooner.
A round of Regen always lasts as long as it would take to fill your HP up from 1 to full, ignoring damage. This means that if you're on 1 HP, your maximum is 1000, and you take 100 damage along the way, you'll ultimately get 900 HP back.

I've noticed that if I cast an Mbarrier (or Big Guard) THEN a Regen, my HP regenerates at a MUCH slower rate.
Give it a try, I could be right, or I could be wrong. I just wanted someone to verify, since i no longer own FF7. Stolen from me it was :(.

Nope, MBarrier doesn't reduce Regen's effect.

Quardra works with Bahamut Zero, as does the knights of the round, I've used both on my old save file, I've never tried any of the other summons though, and I actually never used my quadra magic, with any normal magic lol, I just though oooo power and went right to the summons.

Since you had so many empty materia slots on Cloud you should fill them with hp plus materia so your Power Level goes OVER 9000!

Where do I get shadow flare on disc 2 ? I thought it was only available in the north cave... also, how do I equip catastrophe on barret ? What do I need ?

If you choose to go after Ultimate Weapon, you can get it from him. I think Shadow Flare, like 80% of the attacks FF7 in general, is extremely overpowered.

For Catastrophe, you have to have learn all his other limit breaks before "equipping" it.
As for Shadow Flare, you can learn it from Dragon Zombie in The Crater or Ultima Weapon. Also you can learn it from the last boss, but it's basically useless then.

So, now you have death counter like a lot of the bosses in this game. hey, what happens if you use it with a metaria that has multiple moves like Enimy skill? how does it decide wich to use?

I remember doing the special battle at the battle square, but I don't remember grinding out all those battle points..and of the special battles, I only remember going up against Proud Clod..
I distinctly remember getting Final Attack, though..and yes, it is a literal lifesaver when equipped correctly.
I didn't use regen all that much in FF6; all I usually needed was lots of Cure3 (either from casters or Gau raging Magic Pot) or White Wind when I needed something that would go through Wall.

The spell you describe actually exists in FFXI- it's called Dread Spikes, and functions as a drain effect so naturally doesn't work on undead. But it does exactly what you said, any time you take damage it immediately drains that amount from the enemy, so the only way to kill you is to deal more than your current HP. It'll wear off after draining a specific amount though.

I never got these fights. With my sucky set up and all it was too much of a work just to get Omnislash.
But that Final Attck sure is tempting, and with Phoenix linked to it... oh baby.
