  • Say what? Nice Mr. Blakey :-)

What is the name of the second song that plays after Little Richards Tutti Fruitti? His video on youtube. I need to know the name of that song.

    thanks

  • Little Richard...??

I do not know that song which you say.

What is the reason that must know that song?

Also, how is this song connected to that??

    ...Otaku3

  • god, this is delicious !!

  • SKILLS.

  • No matter how many times I listen to this, I always ask the same question; how the fuck does Lee make those sounds come out of his horn? That's some black magic, man.

  • Masterpiece....

  • wait does this hav anything to do with charles mingus' moanin'? it doesn't sound very much like it.

  • Charles Mingus' tune is completely different compositions with the same name.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • the only reason i listen to this video is because of the tune and that nice ass trumpet solo. i love the beginning and how the sax player uses a bit of his solo at the end of it. Lee morgan is really good i love him

  • eh estubo deveras genial de principio a fin

  • The intro and outro sound so much like So What by Miles Davis and this came out a year earlier.

  • Just got the CD

  • Hey, isn't this song from GTA IV?

  • @Tman9966 yeah it's off jnr. try listening to 'moanin' nostalgia in times square by charles mingus. it's real nice.

  • @Tman9966

yeah.. but its been out just a LITTLE bit longer than the game.. lol.

  • 2:40 The cheesiest and best lick in the whole planet

  • Haha - I've only just twiggged that Blakey played the drums, I always thought he did the piano bit :) Anyway, it's a fabulous piece of jazz at its hottest.

  • Golson is so smooth

  • one of the first jazz songs i ever learned..back wen i was in the 9th grade..of course that was 12 years ago... ever heard this played wit a trombone and alto sax?? now that was some shit

  • i'm 16 and have been playing drums for 12 years (not exaggerating). Art Blakey is my fucking idol :D

  • i come to this video a lot. just wondering, why do you censor comments?

  • Do you think the YouTube team censors all comments?

No, it censors only the unacceptable comment in my authority which posted a video on here.

    ...Otaku3

  • Lee Morgan blew one of the hippest trumpet solos that I ever heard on this song. My god.

  • i definitely heard this in grand theft auto 4

  • funny thing is im 14 i play the drums and i have a poster of him on my wall he is the most insperational person in the music industry along with billy joel, john lennon, etc.

  • @xSiLeNCedHd Art Blakey is more important to music than both of those put together.

  • @xSiLeNCedHd Shut the fuck up about your age, you're not impressing anyone

  • mohitl1985,

Because your comment had nothing to do with this song, I deleted it.

    60otaku3

  • @60otaku3 It was about music in general .. And such a masterpiece reminded me of John Coltrane's quote on jazz and music !

  • jmc17bp,

Because your comment included an unrelated specific link, I deleted it and also blocked your account.

  • I cannot agree to your comment.

There is no accounting for tastes.

    ...Otaku3

  • good value

  • Like in the Bible, (no disrespect)..."When I was I child."..I heard this type of music on vinyl all the time. "Now that I'm grown", I ran out and got every soul shaking song like this on CD, "ripped" them all, so I can fill my head with the comforts of True Sound .

    This is damn righteous!

  • best song, me & my jazz band played this you can check out the video on my page (y)

  • Smooth. Excellent, especially with Mr. Morgan on the trumpet.nice how he changes his sound. Overall, this is a very enjoyable recording

  • How can anyone dislike this? Do they not have any taste in music at all?

  • There is no accounting for tastes.

Please do not mind bad ratings.

    ...Otaku3

  • @FatherTime89 they probably have beans in their ears

  • I love you on this, Lee, R.I.P., bro', you're still alive and your playing is forever immortal, as are all of your grooving brothers...

  • there are some videos like this one which i really do not get why some people press the "don't like" button. seriously i don't understand...! lol...

  • I think there is that button for protest and mute resistance to me or the video.

  • @RockImKaff24 Fellow musicians, or pets?

  • @RockImKaff24 good die. this song is perfect.

  • His playing was perfect.

  • Anyone know where i can find the sheet music for this song?

  • On the Internet, please find on "Jazz Messengers Moanin' Sheet Music" in a search box.

    ...Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @isofakingownu I can get it for you if you can wait until the start of september,it's in my music folder at school

  • @isofakingownu learn it by ear and transcribe it

  • @isofakingownu unless you're trying to find an arrangement for an orchestra or something, I would just try to figure it out :-)

  • @isofakingownu just learn it by ear

  • OMG, I'm the 1000th like

  • This recording is just so unbelievably fucking hip; I can't even stand it. It just grooves so hard I feel like I'm going to fall over if I'm not careful.

  • @jgysland Blue Note

  • @MrWildcountry Um, yes? What are you getting at?

  • @jgysland Conte Candoli

  • Did you come here from the 1940s or something?

  • Omg. We're playing this song in my jazz band and I have the tenor part. *dies

  • so god :D addictive

  • Bobby Timmons is so underrated

  • Around 6:00 ... thats probably the coolest thing ever.

  • @MrLlamaPro Cannonball Adderly 6tet with spontaineous combustion,on Youtube in 2 parts

  • Another essential listen for jazz neophytes. Lots of 'triple tongueing' from Lee Morgan here. Incidentally, 'neophyte' is a word that 'as of this writing', you'll only ever see on the backs of jazz LPs (which real hipsters call 'liner notes'). Benny Golson puts in a nice performance here too.

  • LOL at the Clifford (Jordu) quote @ 2:40.

  • Most modern musicians aren't a patch on these guys. Most jazz songs were based on jams that were recorded. How many scales must you need to know before being able to play like this?

I've been playing guitar for 7 years and I hardly know any scales by heart.

    Immense

  • @Porkscratching

Personally I would say all majors, relative minors, harmonic and melodic minors. Then also you should know all your pentatonics, and a whole bunch of pentatonic patterns. Maybe your whole tone scales, I personally don't use then a whole bunch. For Pentatonics I would look at a book by Gerry Burgonzi Called "Pentatonics". And if you're playing guitar the thing you should really be working on is voicings, and knowing every single chord you can.

  • @LowAophone Thanks mate. Yes I am a guitarist, and I know the standard chords (A-G, minor and major) and a few variations. I know the pentatonics and part of the A minor harmonic scale, other than that very little. I'm completely self taught so I probably know a few more without realising it. I've written a few songs and find it easy to come up with melodies, though my improv isn't the best as I don't know a lot of theory.

Thanks for the tips, I'm a long way off but I'd love to be able to this.

  • So Freakin HOT!!!

  • The sexiest fuckin beat ever

  • i love these tune!!!!!so inlove wd it

  • How can people dislike this? The transition from Morgan's solo to Golson's makes this one of my favorite recordings. Gets me everytime.

  • @dan81685

AW YEAH THAT'S IT! feels so GOOD!!

  • @dan81685 Me Too.

  • @60otaku3 I can't tell if you are being sarcastic..... I meant crazy as in the solos were awesome and mind-blowing.... How could anybody criticize the Jazz Messengers?

  • Hoffletrof456-san,

I seem to have misunderstood the real intention in your comment.

    I am sorry...

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @FreshhNukkuh lmao

  • smoooooooth

  • What playlist is it?

And is it connected with this tune??

    ...Otaku3

  • @60otaku3 it's an Art Blakey playlist. Just enter it in the search bar and scroll down. There's at least 3 different ones! A lot of great music. Thank god for youtube, or we couldn't witness this treasure.

  • Thank you for replying, mathewjetdeleon-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • epic :D

  • Haha Nobody can quite compare to Lee Morgan.

  • Good stuff dude!

  • Heavenly.

  • i am such a fan of lee morgan

  • When jazz was PURE!!!!!!!

  • This is the way to do it! Nice choice!

  • Lee Morgan is a fucking beast.

  • Finally, I've found it. Been looking for this song ever since I saw it used in a commercial for JAL.

  • IncredibleEverything,

If you hate this, please do not comment here.

Such a comment is very unpleasant.

    60otaku3

  • 6 people don't know what is music.

this is what we call Music!!

  • @60otaku3 u japanese ? me too!! thnx 4 upload man! i LOVE this song

  • You're welcome, 41599kt-san!!

    Yes, I am a native-born Japanese.

By the way, can you read/write Japanese-languages?

Please comment in Japanese some other time if you can do that.

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @zimmytherock - I have this one the original vinyl I just was laughing at your post directed at six lost souls - that is so funny what do you think they were expecting to hear? Elevator music? Too Much – BTW as far I know this is a Bobby Timmons composition I did not see that in the notes just a little trivia, on a much covered and loved tune. @ 60otaku3 - oldie and goodie, Thanks for the post

  • @zimmytherock can't you just enjoy the tune, without being smug?

  • @zimmytherock you can dislike something and still think it's music -____-

  • Right I'm new to jazz and this is jsut to check. This peice isn't related to the one of the same name by Charles Mingus, or is it?

  • @allovernow100 No, it's a completely different piece i believe

  • This is entirely different from the tune of the same name by Charles Mingus.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @allovernow100 both entirely different but both classics in their own right.

  • just Amazing!

  • shit man, look at art blakey's face, whatta anger,he looks like he's about the beat up some customer in where he's playin' :D,anyway it was good song from GTA 4,when Pegorino was going for deal with Pavano,it was this song was playing in the car, outstanding :D

  • Bobby Timmons' solo really swings!

  • @MrLlamaPro Another great one from this same era was made by Art Blakey's old bandmate, Horace Silver, and it's called "Song for my Father." It's a bit more low-tempo than this, but still a must-hear. Also, it's hard to go wrong with anything by Charles Mingus or Dexter Gordon. Good luck!

  • @MrLlamaPro

    Yes.

Lee Morgan "The Sidewinder"; Horace Silver "Cape Verdean Blues"; Joe Henderson "Page One"; to start . . .

  • Lets be clear: This piece was written by 'Timmons' NOT Blakey.

  • I suggest several live recordings in Paris recorded after this album to you.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • oh my...i love this jazz song!!!!!!!Better than all the crap out there today...is there anyway i can find a cd of this

  • This song is simply one of my all time favorites, I have different covers of this song by roughly 15 different musicians and bands, and everyone is different. Such is Jazz

  • Anybody a fan of country blues? (Like Son House?) I'm trying to find some old country blues. I am also trying to find some great jazz drum pieces so I can learn to play some. If anybody has some suggestions, gladly appreciate it. Thanks! (to 60otaku3: Thanks for posting the song!!)

  • You're welcome, oak3cbc2-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)/

  • @oak3cbc2 Hi, its not jazz but the drum piece to 'dancing with the devil' by Cozy Powell might interest you. Lots of intricate little techniques

  • love moanin' one of my absolute favs, and everything Art ever did yeah!

  • Its a shame kids today dont know what go music is . im 48 years an the music today is WACK!!!! as the kids say

  • This is great music! I have a wide array of eclectic (in my opinion) music that I love: blues, soul, funk, DnB, classical (Mussorgsky to Debussy) and increasing varieties of House. But it is some time since I've listened to Jazz, and this reminds me what I've been mising.

Strangely... the Japanese symbols above make me feel slightly sad...it's clear to me that '60otaku3' has great taste - but I'm unable to understand his/her comments. I wish there was just one language. :(

  • phealy02-san,

I am so glad for your having accepted my taste in music.

But I am disappointed that you were not able to understand my comment.
