  • very nice man thank you !

  • Badass!!!! I wanna!!!!

  • nice job

  • Would sure love to be in that operating it, How about showing me in person.

  • @KissMyBackhoe I could probably arrange that if you asked nice.

  • great videos mate, keep going!

  • excellent video i have ran an excavator for alittle while even though im young haha but really good video

  • thanks very much for this video, it helped me in my new job.

  • What size machiene was that you were opereating? or can you remember.

  • @stopmotion200 This is a Caterpillar 385C LME with an 8yd bucket.

  • look easy

  • Thanks for the video! our mini hitachi has two pattern options but this is the one I always use!! Good to know what it is called.

  • thanks a lot, nice video

  • muy buen video, exelente explicacion gracias

  • i am worked on exavator

  • I am really interested in working with this type of equipment, I have for years but no one has pointed me in where to go,can you help me in pointing me in the right direction as far as what i need to do and may be the best way to get a job for beginners, thank you it would help a lot. Brent.

  • @brentsmith1988 Well some states now require an operator card, you'll have to do some tests to get that. I always say the best way to learn is to get on as a labourer and slowly learn how things are done and start doing easy jobs with the machine. Another option is union halls do provide training, but there's pros and cons to union.

  • thanks mate... helped a lot

    ben

  • you man are a genius, great video, real easy to follow you on what your sayin.

Not like to other ones with stupid and long intros

  • cool dude thanks for that!

  • nice video and demostation.

  • nice video and demostation

  • Wat are the buttons on the top of the left joystick if you don't mind me asking???

  • @Jordan27Wilson Horn is bottom right, top right is idle control (up/down). The slider isn't used for anything. Right stick the bottom button is also for idle and the other two are not used. If you were running shears the left slider would be for rotate and the right would be for open/close.

  • Taht pttern is known as SAE the other most commonly used is BHL (in north america)

  • @HomebrewCigarsmoker Also known as their more commonly used names "cat" aka "standard" or "deere".

  • good video, thanks

  • grazie ottimo video per principianti come me!!!!

  • stick = dipper?

  • I've been running underground loading equipment for 20 years. Tomorrow morning I will be starting my surface training on a Cat Excavator. I hope I like it.

  • wanna be a operator

  • i luv this thanx alot ..

  • kool

  • kool

  • hey, nice vid. can you make a video on how to refuel an excavator?

  • @ern707 a video on how to refuel an excavator????

    1. take fuel cap off

    2. put fuel in

    3. put fuel cap back on

    lol

  • @MrCoryjohnson1 depends on if has a wiggins nozzle lol

  • Good video.

When working with these machines, one needs to be very careful.

  • very good video

  • Thank you for posting this video. It is clear and concise, and might only be improved a bit by showing more of the boom and stick when operating.

  • @007TruthSeeker If you change the camera angle you lose view of the joysticks =/

  • @vantagetes Use two cameras and go pip

  • @brejso That would be another $700 in gear and a couple hours in editing time to synchronize and render, a lot of effort for very little gain over what I already have.

I did think about it though! =D

  • @vantagetes I think a cell's camera would do the trick :)

  • @vantagetes - Heck, you won't spend a little more money & spend a little more time for your viewing audience? We pay a lot of money for getting to view your videos. We want a little more for our money & you are worried about a few dollars & time? I may just decide to quit watching you & take my business elsewhere. LOL - Thanks for what you do. - After giving it some more thought, Your videos are worth every penny it cost me. - Thanks again for the time you spend posting videos ! ! GREAT WORK ! !

  • @specialks1953 - You may have been being satirical, but what cost? I'm seeing this for free.

  • @firepow24 - Yes, it was a joke. - As you know it does not cost to watch YouTube. My point is that it is easy for us viewers to request better views and better quality videos because it won't come out of our pockets. - At the end I did thank him for the time he spends posting videos.

  • that machine is so smooth and quick nice video

  • is the best

  • I love mi machine

  • Your if that you are a teacher, regards from Work Mining Industry, Trujillo Perù

  • good video. Makes me wish I could play with one of these. :)

  • Great video!

  • This is going on my favourite list!

  • Very nicely explained! I've been wanting to get on an excavator but have just missed the chances! Definatly a great reference for anybody who wants to learn! Thanks for posting!

  • great videos, iv been looking becoming a heavy eqipment operator and this video is a great inside view on how these machines work. Thanks broseph

  • exelent thanks

  • nice job . i love excavators

  • very good thanks

  • mate you have the best job :) when i was a kid i was obsessed with excavators

  • nice vid and a great channel for excavator fans like me ;D

but i have one question: for what are these 2 footpedals to the right of the main pedals? or is this just a ledge for your feet? ^^

  • @Quasicasihasi There is one footrest on either side of the travel pedals. The "third" pedal on the far right is a straight travel pedal which controls both tracks forwards or back. Great for Mass Excavators when you are constantly tracking backwards while loading trucks.

  • Thank you sir for this video.. I have no experience whatsoever with this heavy equipment but I am going to attend a 1 month training. I thought an excavator is among the most versatile and interesting heavy machinery out there.

  • Excellent vid. quick question. how do the controls on a cat feel in comparison to other brands?

  • They vary from model to model even in the same brand. I am a big fan of the short fat sticks cat uses in their new hoes vs the old style john deere sticks that are skinny and super long, end up hitting my knees when I curl the bucket!

  • How do you change the different joystick control modes. do you have to config all the hydraulics or just flick a switch ?

  • You can get aftermarket pattern selectors where it's as easy as flipping a switch, otherwise you have to swap hoses (or wires) around.

  • I Love this Can you post more tutorials this is the most informative Video out there. Thanks

  • Check out my channel I have a couple on dozers and most of my videos I try to explain what I'm doing (and why) as I do it. I have a couple 657 videos showing the controls but they won't be up for a little while.

  • No certification in Calgary, eh? Is 17 too young to learn? (Yes I'm in Calgary)

  • Never too young (or old) to learn!

  • I'm a laborer that has been given the chance to learn some oporating at work. I foung this to be a good refresher, I had the dip arm and boom controls confused.

  • @dsparentsr Be careful, there is another joystick pattern where the stick (dipper) and boom ARE backwards from what you see in the video, typically seen on backhoes and some john deere hoes.

  • man isnt it hard to operate the bucket with left and right movments i would get confused

but great video absolutely 5 stars

  • is 48 yearsold to old to start a new carrer as an excavater operater

  • Nope not at all, although the younger generation with video games (great hand eye coordination building tool) have the edge.

  • i guess it depends on the area really, but do operators make a good living operating heavy equipment such as tis excavtor your running in this video? im leaving for ATS heavy equipment school in little more then a week and im just making sure its a good choice. Thanks Bud

  • I make exceptionally good wages doing what I do. Most places will pay you fairly well however it's important to remember that most of this type of work is fairly seasonal so you may be without work for 3-4 months!

  • where are you located at that its seasonal? Down here in Southeren Delaware, they run equipment all year around.Did you have certification upon going into operator?

  • Calgary, Alberta. It was -20* the last two nights. No need for certification here.

  • I love these videos where guys show you how to work the controls.

    5 stars - Thanks

  • i was 17 the first time i had a go the boss let me load scrap into skips on a dinner time, took me for ever to load one bin, now 7 years on im teaching a labourer and he is doing quite well too

  • nice im trying to get back on machines but i cant get any work operating do you know of anywhere that is hiring.

  • Not this time of year! Dirt work tends to be fairly seasonal.

  • Halifax, what about you?

  • Antigonish myself.

  • you make it look so easy, how long did it take you to learn how to use the controls?

  • When this was made, two years. I also had two years operating forestry (a lot fine control boom work) previous to that.

  • nice i am also from NS and nice video

  • Where abouts?

  • Very informative, thanks!

  • nice video

  • It controls both tracks at once, great for if you are constantly backing up in a straight line while digging.

  • oh ok sorry about that

  • fstwrtr what kind of excavtor do you have ?? and lally0011 lay of him ok what did he do to you nothing and i bet he is a better excavator operator than you and you know some people have never driven an excavator before so sorry no one is as good as you maby we should make you god or something if your so good and operating an excavtor

  • It's alright dude he was just messing around. We're cool.

  • I need to learn how to run one of those things.. I have a 12X16 X 10 foot deep hole I gotta dig, and I gotta get rid of the dirt..

  • I love your videos!!! Its too bad that someone always has to whine about a video, and put someone down. If you watch it but dont like it, move on. Keep posting the vids!

  • Can't keep everyone happy all the time =p Will do friend.

  • You should try to always work over your idlers and because of this you have a pretty good idea of which way your tracks are all the time. Otherwise a quick peek down at your tracks before you move lets you know (if you can see the motors you're backwards).

  • ah yeah...the motors are on the inside....yeah I never thought of that! very cool...thanks!

  • That's right, you wont be able to see the idlers but you can definately see the motors. If you cant see anything you know you're forward.

  • what u tryin to be a smart ass teachin us how to run excavators, bitch we do this everyday faggot and we didn't go to college silly little white boy we learned ourselves and run our own business so fuck off goldylocks.

  • Why did you click on the video then? Apparently you didn't go to primary either where you should have learned some manners.

Anytime you think you can do it better than me feel free to post up a video.

  • listen u runniin this on machine on hard penn any one can do that , try runnin it in the peat moss on pads you and your college skills combined u won't even last 1 hour before u get stuck and and sink it we would have to come and rescue u done it all the time with u college boys. u guys stay on the hard stuff while we tackle the softest ground that b.c. has to offer land clearing and grading. oh and by the way i'm a high school grad fool.

  • How many times did you fail english before they pushed you through? I've been in lots of swamps with a 385C and 850D, it's really not rocket science.

  • sure u have faggot. come suck my fuckin dick u fuckin little shit. if i ever see u fuckin bitch i'm a knock u out fuckin hlllbilly hobo.

  • I find it amusing that you can't even use proper grammar and you are calling ME a hillbilly. Except you spelled it wrong. I'll be thinking of you when I get in my new foreman truck on Monday morning! =)

  • You need to relax, this is the internet. It doesn't really matter. Go drink a beer and enjoy your weekend already.

  • Allright bro sorry about harsh language, it's just me being an idiot and starting shit with other people. Enjoy your weekend too and tell me how that new truck drives. You are a pretty smooth operator and i hope all goes well for you. Take care.

  • No worries, thanks for the compliment. Ever think about making some videos yourself? I'd be interested in seeing you work with those mats, we don't use them very much over here.

  • Sure i will post some videos, i'm from b.c. we use them quite often here, anyways where you from?

  • NS, but all these videos are from Calgary, I've been here 3 1/2 years now. Kinda cool running all this big gear, back home it's all little stuff.

  • hey I got a question for ya? how do you remember what you are facing so when you go to move you move in the right direction and not in reverse? Is there something indicate your direction or do you just remember?

  • Cool, I see how it's done now, it's not as complicated as I thought it would be.

    Great videos by the way.

  • could you do a loading vid of that 385c lme 0r the 385cl powerstripe to a trailer

  • now i learned how too drive :P Tnx :)

  • So is your job a heavy equipment operator?

  • Sure is!

  • Ok then, Did you go through any college/extra schooling for heavy equipment and how long have you been in the workforce as one?

  • Yes I took a course through Nova Scotia Community College and just started my 6th year running heavy equipment. I also grew up around farm machinery so I think that also gave me a bit of a head start.

  • i see that extra pedal for straight tracking even in my 315

  • we had 2 385bs one electric and one hydraulic...same hours on them,i ran both of them and the hydraulic would bury the electric...the rpms were both the same too

  • B's aren't the fastest creatures in the words, but I see your point. Doesn't mean the controls were to blame though.

  • im not the biggest fan of those electric over levers...give me direct hydraulic anyday

  • Unless your AC doesn't work, then electric is a huge benifit over having hydraulic lines running through your seat *wink*

  • true lol but you cant get the speed with electric over the way you can with hydraulic

  • How do you figure that?

  • im pretty sure you can, i've had no problems with eletric levers.

  • Same like here in europe

  • You guys and your hydraulics and joysticks. Lets throw you on a cable machine or a friction machine and see how you do. Id like to put my insley dragline up against a backhoe or trackhoe at same RPM and dipper size and see who wins. maybe we'll swich out even and you run the drag and I get the joysticks. ha ha Great video.

  • stay on your ugly old dragline lol i like the cabs on nice new hoes anyday

  • I think I just will... I would lke to try my hands at a trackhoe just to see what I can do. Ill work my way up from the begining from friction to this stuff.

  • I'm not entirely sure I would call Gradalls and excavator. Although they do excavate, they are pretty much in a class all their own.

  • what is the pedal to the far right for?

  • That's an accessory (factory) which is why I didn't include it. In the 385C LME it's to control both tracks at once. This is useful as you are usually bulking out piles (straight line) so you can just use that pedal to move straight forwards or backwards. On other machines sometimes it's for a thumb and sometimes for a hammer.

  • oh okay would make sense on the 385 the pieline company i worked for last year had there 200 derre thumbs and hammers set up on the foot pedal i really liked that setup

  • Yeah like I said I didn't include it because it's subject to what application you're using the machine for (or may not be there at all), versus the controls I showed are standard for every machine.

  • and i like the fact you mentioned not to get in the habbit with useing your hands to travel i always used my feet

  • Thanks for that. I always wanted to know how the controls worked.

  • Thank you! I always wanted to know how to handle the sticks. Great video.

    Greetings from Switzerland

  • so, will you get your 385 back?

  • vantagetes = excavapedia

  • very good! are the different patterns just inverted? reversed?

  • On a "John Deere" setup the stick is on the right control and the boom is on the left. There are a bunch of other crazy ones but "Cat" and "John Deere" are the two main patterns.

  • ah ok thank you, I am starting the heavy equipement school soon :) do you have any more vids floating around!

  • Just threw up an old scraper one I've had kicking around for a while now.

  • YAY! great to see u uploading again! hope to c more!

    BTW how was your trip?

  • you back at wrk?

  • Not quite, I found this and a scraper one hiding on my hard drive.

  • nice vid bud....now lets see that scraper one.....i wanna see whos a better scraperhand....you or burnout!

  • That video is gonna dissapoint, its a 651 stripping topsole and dumping in a pile. I gave him a bunch of pointers when he was trying to run that 27G so you do the math on that one *wink*
