Reading a chart in concert key I see (or rather, hear lol). Do you know it in the original? Although it is important to play things in different keys, it is also important to learn tunes in their "original" keys AND actually be able to solo on the changes in that key. Cuz if you can't do it in the original, then it can't be expected that you can do it in other keysl. You have a strong sound! That can be hard to attain, just refine it a little.Oh, and transcribe a jazz great! It will help OODLES!
Kid, don't listen to what any of the critics on here say. There is a time and place for criticism, and well, by posting your video on here, you got a little taste of it. Keep playing. Keep practicing. Keep listening. Get a good teacher. You're on the right track.
ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhhha .... omg dude ... u just made coltrane die again use the f.ing chords and learn to play the head right and in tune
I see you are very keen to play such a complex piece,wich is good but you can't really play a blues scale over giant steps, I would start learning chord changes and start with a slower Easyer piece with a 2 5 1 chord progression but well done for trying
Hey the kid is trying, give him credit for that....and the damn tenor is almost as big as he is, which says something about his committment. In ten years he'll make you eat your words.
What's the point of having the sheet music in front of you if you obviously aren't reading it?
The chord changes of Giant Steps are the most important and distinctive part of the song, maybe you should start with something easier to improve your improvisational skills before trying to play such a difficult piece.
you know, there are letters above the bar called chord changes, you may want to look into that so you dont sound like some kid who doesnt know how to play chord changes
Just cause Bov didn't transpose the key from the real book i doesn't mean everyone can give him shit about it. hes way better then that now and back then he was really still really good for his age. Sooo. anyone who doesn't want to comment something good don't comment anything all. it can really damage someones character.
don't let anybody tell you that you suck or you have wrong notes or you're in the wrong key because sax player can play anything in any key and it might sound wierd but it's right.......
good job and ...............KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!!!!!!!
I think i just heard ONE blues scale played over the entire Giant Steps tune.... one of the more harmonically complex tunes that exist.... plain wierded me out...
asiantenorsax.. Do you also realize he's in a different key so he can play it with the same melody and not jumping octives? In case you haven't noticed.. Giant Steps goes to a high G. Which is altissimo range. YOU fail.
Why in God's name would I find a "score" for it? I assume you mean a transcription, of which I have transcribed this myself. If you are meaning Coltrane's SOLO goes up to high G, then fine, but clearly this young-sax-player is not playing Coltranes solo.
Rather, he is playing the head. The humorous thing here, is that you probably looked at some transposed transcription for Alto sax, which WOULD go up to "g" in the melody.
I'm guessing he's looking at a C book because hes playing it a whole step lower than what it's supposed to be. Sorry i don't know what you mean "goes up to high G".
btw giant steps starts on a Bb tenor's G#....ur in the wrong key
~~~asiantenorsax
And then, TenorSaxDogVideos outraged, rude comment:
"Do you also realize he's in a different key so he can play it with the same melody and not jumping octives? In case you haven't noticed.. Giant Steps goes to a high G. Which is altissimo range. YOU fail."
This is where I replied.
Maybe YOU should get facts straight, or maybe none of us should care?
I couldn't care less anymore - and my initial comment was to someone on here who was being a jerk to some guy posting a mere comment about the key.Then TnrSxDg came out in a fit of rage against the key-dude , I agreed with the latter, so posted that cmnt. NOTHING that I said was ever to this 11 year old saxophonist - who is doing a great job by the way, and congrats to him! Anyhow - you guys still are reading what I said out of context. keep up the music!
Nice try, but you gotta earn your stripes first.
In what planet did Giant Steps go to a high g!? John Coltrane's recording must be wrong...
AustinBrister 3 years ago
Find a score for it. The original went up to a high concert F (high G)
TenorSaxDogVideos 3 years ago
steagle1017 3 years ago
Dear Austin Brister:
This kid played it up to a high Ab, which he played sharp. You should probably double check before you attack the 11 year olds in the future :)
Also there's no alto sax part involved. He's just playing a concert chart on tenor, so the whole thing is down a whole step.
