Thank you for making this video. I need to update my hair rountine. The winter is killing me. My hair is so dry. I am going to look into this. I need something new. Thanks again
Great idea to save money. I don't have either but I do have a hooded dryer and a hot steam humidifier. I'm going to try and see if this will get me some benefits. But I'll use the hot wet towel under plastic method first then remove and sit under the dryer with the open vaporizer steam....since mine won't probably be as steamy as your facial one...gotta try. Thanks for the idea.
I already have a hood dryer, but I would love to have a steamer as well. So instead of purchasing the hood steamer, I can just purchase the facial steamer and do it how you did. Great way to save money and space. Thank you.
@sugermeli -Great question! This method uses steam which is heat+moisture. The heat opens up the cuticle layer so the moisture and conditioner can penetrate deeper into the hair shaft. The result is hair with more moisture unlike when one uses direct heat that removes moisture.
@sugermeli steam is actually good for your hair. I have been using my Huetiful Hair Steamer a little over a month now on both my nine year old daughter's hair, who is transistioning and my own hair (I did a bc in July). I have gotten excellent results with it. I also purchased the attached facial steamer that can be used with the steamer as well. I think it is one of the best investments for natural as well as any other hair textures. I really love my steamer.
Do you need to have the hooded dryer or is there a way to steam the hair with just the facial steamer. I'm in a door and having a hooded dryer is against regulations but I would still like to be able to steam condition...any thoughts?
@ob2be -I've used this steamer on my hair without a hooded dryer. I did a short video called Pre-poo steam treatment where I would steam individual sections of my hair with a pre-shampoo treatment. That was how I was using it before this idea popped into my mind. Let me know if you have other questions!
@onlinebabeful - I got my facial steamer from a beauty supply store. You can find a similar one on Amazon. I posted a link in the video description box just under the video.
Does steaming your hair like that have real health and strength benefits versus a conditioing cap? I have a conditioning cap, and I regularly use it. How is using steam beneficial? How does your hair respond to the treatment oppose to any other form of treatments?
@MsGEMS1 -The steam gets pretty intense. After a while the hair begins to get heavy with the moisture from the water particles. With a steam cap you get the heat. With a steamer, you get the heat and the moisture all at once.
Awesome idea! I own a hooded dryer, but have no steamer! Darn! But I tried my first make shift home steam treatment last weekend! I had saturated my hair in my penetrating coconut oil treatment with a plastic cap; then covered the cap with a microwaved water saturated headwrap. It seemed to do the trick!
i think that is brilliant, super economical and effective on many fronts. hair and scalp health plus facial, talk about cutting down on time and money! would you tell me if that is warm or cool steam that is blasting? in your opinion what temperature steam is good for your hair follicles? all my best to you and happy spa-ing!!
@odedaj -The steam is warm. That way the cuticle layer can open up for the conditioning products. The steamer doesn't really have a temp setting but it can get too hot if the steam is shooting right at the scalp.
Great idea as a space saver; my steamer-{ I love it-luxurious treatment!} from SALONSRUS only cost me $100.00 with a discount. The facial steamer is around $80.00 with shipping, taxes but your idea does save space for anyone who already has a hooded dryer.
fabohair, this is a great idea! I have been pricing steamers (Whoa, they are EXPENSIVE!!) but until I get one, this is what I've been doing--and don't laugh..lol. While I'm moisturizing my hair, I put on a plastic cap. Then I microwave a clean damp washcloth for a few seconds and put the washcloth on top of the plastic cap. Then I get a 2nd plastic cap and put it over the first cap and the hot washcloth. It's NOTHING ilke a steam treatment, but it's not bad!
when i steam, i clip all of my hair up so i can really get the benefits of the deep condition. i have a steamer and i can really say it has benefited my hair to the fullest! you must be careful though, you have to up your protein because steam gives the hair extra moisture and too much moisture can lead to breakage! great video!!
Thank you . =)
