First heard it in 77 on AT 40 at age 9, and thought it rocked. In 80 I heard, Your the biggest part of me many times, and was dumfounded by the fact it was the same band. Your the only woman sounded like This is it by Kenny Loggins, with that Michael McDonald touch. Did not hear How much I feel until after it was overplayed on the radio. Luckily in 2010, I found an immaculate 45 with the bygone 20th Century label of Magical Mystery Tour for 50 cents, and my daughter is hooked.
@TheTalkeetna1 Lucky! I'm a 21 year old AMbrosia fan and I never even knew they did this until now! It's so awesome. If your daughter like's this I'm betting she'd like the whole first album. Mama Frog and Drink of water are two of my favourite songs! Of course, the Jabberwocky is my favourite poem, so the instant I heard Mama Frog I was hooked on it, haha!
@TheTalkeetna1 Admittedly while I do like "How Much I Feel", listening to the first Ambrosia album sort of shows their evolution, going from a band produced by Alan Parsons for their first couple (when this was made) to more a Steely Dan/later Doobie Brothers-esque jazz-pop band by "Life Beyond LA" to...well, more a poppish band by "One-Eighty". Though I do admit: this cover is cool.
@Ataru320 In a way it is kind of a novelty to hear some of the more "poppy" songs of Ambrosia today even though they differ dramatically from their earlier prog rock. I can name a few songs that have that Michael McDonald type of sound to them, such as: Peg by Steely Dan, This is it by Loggins, and You belong to me by Carly Simon. Currently, I cannot think of the many others, but I know they are out there. Admittedly, I like "Your the only Woman" , oh yeah what about Steal Away by R. Dupree.
@TheTalkeetna1 The thing is, I really like/love the jazz/pop sound of the late 70s/early 80s that sort of crept in and took over between post-disco and pre-MTV. (for example, I really like a 1980 song from that era that didn't get as much airplay called "Take a Little Rhythm"...and yeah, "Steal Away" is awesome) It's just no one really talks of that music and that era...and I was more or less comparing it to the earlier Ambrosia sound.
@Ataru320 Take a Little Rhythm, by Ali Thompson is a great tune, I used to have that little A&M 45 record back in the summer of 80. Did you know that Ali Thompson was the brother of Supertramp's bassist? Hot Rod Hearts is great too. Used to also have the old Warner Bros single of Your the Only Woman, it was the buff label sans the California trees from the earlier days. I hear reruns of old AT 40s from Casey, type in Listen to American Top 40 the seventies/eighties.
@TheTalkeetna1 Been listening to the Casey 70s show for years, try not to miss an episode whenever it's on with how many hidden gems it has. Just recently started with the 80s but sadly it's harder for me to catch since there are many weeks I just am not interested...both in years and music in it. Probably I'm immediately listening if it's 1980 or '81...'82 to '85 is maybe...but '86 on...most likely not.
@Ataru320 I agree, 1987 and 1988 are the worst, I hear a song and I instantly close the window. Spring of 86 had a few, but I can take it or leave it. I am glad radio stations across the country are airing 1979, although they have to start @ #30 due to time constraints. Notwithstanding, Jan 78 to Oct 78, all the seventies are great, and Oct 78 to the fall of 83 generate interest for me. Cool period from Nov 78 to Jul 82 w/ that post disco to pre-real MTV. Early MTV, novelty for me.
@TheTalkeetna1 There are still a couple good songs that late in the 80s but I get you. Personally I sort of just love all the 70s, particularly when you hear how diverse the early 70s can be and how much is lost from the entire decade due to the super-select playlists of radio stations. But yeah: '78-'82/'83 is a great musical period and somewhat misunderstood due to not really fitting in anywhere with a lot of the music.
@Ataru320 Aside from Cowboy Star by Ambrosia, which never charted, I will you a partial list of gems I heard on AT 40 from the 70s. U-tube them and tell me what you think: Ecstasy by Ohio Players 1973, People Gotta Move by Gino Vannelli 1974, Venus and Mars Rock Show, Wings 1975, Slowdown, John Miles 1977, Such a Woman, Tycoon, 1979, Rolene, Moon Martin 1979, I still have dreams Richard Fury 1979, Savannah Nights, Tom Johnston 79/80, Carrie, Cliff Richard 79/80, Keep the Fire, Loggins 79/80.
@TheTalkeetna1 I know of the Wings song (heck found out about "Girls School" from another countdown) and a little of the Ohio Players (also found out about "Funky Worm" and "Skin Tight" from AT40), but need to search for the others. Thanks for the hints.
@Ataru320 Listen to AT 40 this wkd, it is from Oct 1979 is is part of that period in music that we liked from post disco to pre MTV, I do not know which 80s one is going on this weekend. Michael Jackson is playing now en route to the number one song for this period in 79, also Holdin on to yesterday by Ambrosia is good gem from 75, listen to Rotation by Herb Alpbert from 79, great tune too.
@TheTalkeetna1 I checked: it was 1985. According to the source I use, there are a few songs I really like from around then but mostly mainstream stuff like "Don't Lose My Number" by Phil Collins (one of the most hilarious videos he ever made...up with Genesis videos like "Jesus He Knows Me" and "Land of Confusion") Going to listen to '79 from the Baltimore feed which usually plays all the AT40 extras. (hoping they have "Rainbow Connection" by Jim Henson/Kermit...yes it was 40 that week :p)

Ah. The cover that got me on the journey to The Beatles. It was an epiphany. The summer of '84. Up to then I thought Lennon and McCartney were a pair of Victorian song writers of children songs! :/
The songs on this album have a great sound. Great covers.
However...
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (the movie) album, released about a year later featuring Frampton and the Bee Gees, contains many of the worst Beatle covers ever recorded. The whole album sucks. The movie sucked.
The only good thing about that movie I remember was when we left the theatre and found a big bag of quality dope someone must have accidentally dropped on the sidewalk.
@MisterEvasion Sure it sucked, but there were some really good covers as well. Aerosmith's Come Together for example, and Earth Wind & Fires Got to Get you Into My Life. But on the other end of the spectrum theres Steve Martin......
@Carthsting - When we made the discovery our thoughts were that God must have took pity on us for sitting through that Bee Gee film and refunded us with a happy circumstance.
Wow I bought 3 copies of the 45 I wore 2 of them out. It's not on any Ambrosia collection don't know why. It peaked at #39 in the spring of 1977 on Billboard.
awsome cover of this song. Early Ambrosia is so good. Love, love, love their first 2 albums!!!
