when i was playing game and watch games and then i upgraded to an nes. oh my god, the feeling was simply amazing at the time! I remember boring a game from my 2nd grade classmate called "Metal Gear" I couldn't get anywhere before the dogs killed me and i swore that it was the worst game ever and dull. lol.
The first few ones like Donkey Kong, Mario Bros and Excitebike weren't NES exclusive titles and they were never famous for their NES releases. They're all arcade games. :P
Be honest, has anyone ever beat Battle Toads or Castle Vania without the Game Genie? I beat Battle Toads with the Game Genie, fucking hard! Castle Vania, couldn't beat with the Game Genie. Don't know how to fight the grim reaper in that game.
@LedWilde funny u ask about those games bc it reminds me of those certain games that it seemed no one ever beat... like kid icarus or metroid. there were more but it always seemed like rather than a way to beat these games there seemed to be a dead end that no one could get past
@Taxi502 Metroid is way beatable too. You just have to know/find the secret passage ways. You fight Mother Brain and then you enter a door and have to escape before the planet explodes. You have to jump up on a seriers of small ledges before time runs out. The ending of Metroid, Samus take off "his" helmet and you see that Samus is a girl. Then there's some speech about peace in space or something. Then the credits. Actually the game has more than one slightly altered ending depending on stuff.
I wasn't a fan of Ninja Gaiden either. I'd play it once in a while but wasn't into it really. I don't know if this game helped define Nintendo but I say it will anyway: Wizards and Warriors. It seemed to be popular anyway.
@Taxi502 No, not true! I beat Wizards and Warriors lots of times. No Game Genie no codes. Now, it's been a few years since I played it but the last guy is a pink wizard who teleports a lot in different locations to try to attack you. It takes place in a dark cave like area. The ending, don't quite remember but it's nothing too fancy. You free the girl and then the credits come up is what I remember. Maybe something else minor in between? Something flashy happens? Beatable game though, I promise.
@LedWilde haha no doubt. i remember there being this one level where i could never reach where i needed to go because the boots of levitation didnt get u high enough. i dont really remember tho because its been 15 years since i played it
@Taxi502 Been a long time for me as well. Don't remember it too well these days but maybe it would come back to me. I might know what level you're talking about.
@nothinghappens1, AGREED! BATMAN by Sunsoft is one the hottest titles ever for the NES, I just picked up a second boxed copy about 2 months ago. Everything was epic about that game....MUSIC, GRAPHICS, GAMEPLAY, REPLAY VALUE, FUN FACTOR, DIFFICULTY, WEAPONS...and oh...DID I MENTION IT'S MUSIC? LEGENDARY TITLE!
Is it really humanly possible to HATE Ninja Gaiden?! Wow, that's shocking! I couldn't beat that game for the life of me, but yet I'll play it again and again and again.
Lots of people have commented about games that are not on the list.
But, of course.
There are so many games that made the NES what it is that merely listing 20 games does not do the system any kind of justice
There are TONS of games that the list left off, so whatever games that aren't on it isn't the fault of "applemctom" because there's just so many to choose from to begin with.
@nothinghappens1 As good as Batman was, in most conversations about the NES, Batman doesn't really come up. Quite frankly, neither does Final Fantasy, as groundbreaking as that was, I can't really say that's one of the games that defined the NES. That along with Metal Gear and Bubble Bobble.
@StarSaber7 Is more like a personal opinion. For me, batman was one of those games that had everything: great graphics, superb control, a kick ass music and hard as hell. Well i guess i like that "outcast" kind of games haha. Cheers man!
yeh it got towards the end of the vid and im thinking hang on ,, wheres the turtles and simpsons series.. those two series sold allot of games in america for the nes....but yeh nce compilation,, did u record the footage urself?
I agree with you. That was awesome. The first one wasn't that good, and I also liked the 3rd one. The biggest surprise to me that didn't make the list is RAMPAGE! That game is just so much fun even though it's really long.
Again, though it's one person's opinion!! Games that define a system are probably going to be games that a person likes a lot. I might put Micro Machines instead of Kirby, but someone else might say that game stunk (Micro) so badly. During Nes days, I never heard Kirby.
8 bits are enough to be happy. I don't want to sound like a bum, but most nowadays games have absolutely no charm compared to this :(.
