Damnit! This was a great ending, but it follows suit with many Japanese movies with a stressful & heart-wrenching ending - a world in turmoil, Hagino going kamikaze, & Mari losing the one most dear to her while trying to negotiate peace with hostile creatures.

7:00 F-15 Eagles FTW!!! Seriously, wouldn't they just send in more Fighters than that now that the aliens have already planned their invasion? As well, wouldn't a mutual defense treaty come into play right about now? By the time the US Military are here to assist the JSDF against the invaders when they are no match for them? Or better off launch an ICBM at their spaceships when the military has the opportunity to do so?

Now I feel like I'm watching Independence Day again.

The anime is a prequel to the manga, yes. But the manga takes place 1000 years after the anime ends.

Hagino ejects Tsubael from the ship and rams Shibariel's ship as it is about to fire its main weapon, destroying both ships. Hagino dies while reciting her lines from the play and her name, and Mari silently asks her sacrifice to be a sign of hope to the whole planet. Thirty years in the future, a shuttle containing Michiko approaches an Arume ship on a peace mission, while Michiko states that everything will be fine

Also, fun fact- If theoretically another species did exist with a body composition almost identical to ours but white blood, they would not have pinkish skin like us. They would have creepy pastey white skin. =D
