Umm actually samarachelle i think alex is younger then him...but im not sure, and they werent friends when they were on starsearch, in an interview, they say that they were sitting a couple seats across from eachother on AI and alex's dad was like isnt that the kid who was on star search with you? and yeah they became friends, and yeah they had 'school' on set together, thats prob why theyre good friends, being younger then the rest...they kinda befriended eachother =)
