thanks for making this video because I came across pro ana and pro mia videos yesterday for the first time and I couldn't figure out if they were being sarcastic or if it was real. Its the most horrible thing I ve seen, any one who has a disorder doesn't want it, and definitely does not want others to suffer from it too. ....what is wrong with people trying to convert people to these disorders, they should be inspiring others on how to get through there disorder instead of mocking it.
dude seriously!!! I just came across a pro-ana channel today and I was like dude this is shit. because I've been dealing with an eating disorder for a while. I looked at the channel and was like this is shit!!
I have a friend battling this. She is doing pretty good but still doesn't leave the house much or eat like "normal" nor does she have much for friends and it's so flipping hard for her/anyone with any disorder for that matter.
they dont know what any of them are, just because im skinny everyone thinks im anorexic but even though they know i eat they still confront me and say what are you anorexic you need to eat and all this stuff and i just say do you even know what anorexia is well its not me okay?
i cant get it through anyones head that im not anorexic it sucks
well in the begining i looked at thinspos but now i dont i have anorexia with bulimic tendencies and hell no am i pro-ana hat horrible why would anyone want this hell....great video
I agree about the pro ana.. but i am a healthy weight, and i suffer from an eating disorder, you were stereotyping there, i think without meaning to about the size of girls with EDs. The vast majority of people with EDs are a normal weight or slightly underweight. Many are even overweight. Just thought id point it out.. xxx
good video hun, but i was wondering about your views on bulimia and pro-ana. both myself and my best friend suffer from bulimia, except she says that looking at pro-ana support sites ie the thinspiration are helping her b/p less. im not sure i agree though, but what do you think?
I think that it could very well help her. After I recovered from anorexia I had a short stay with bulimia. I looked at eating disorder site not necessarily pro ana though and talking to other girls helped me overall recover for good. I saw how they acted and how some girls really were bad off and others were just wannanorexics SHe might be getting a prospective that will help her. Just watch out though bc she might fall hard on the ana side of eds which is not at all better than the purging side
You're totally right... about everything !!! but we need to feel less alone into our disease... Pro ana should be seen as anorexics that are not ready to let the disease go away yet... You are really hook to the disease... I go to a forum (a french forum -course au corps d'enfant-), and we all have anorexia or anorexia-bulimia.
My Aunt had an eating disorder, in the beginning she used motivational pictures of other women, it was a crash diet, but over time it developed into an eating disorder, her theropist told her that some cases of eating disorders can be triggered by using idols because eventually you get so disgusted that you don't even want to eat. I do get what you're saying though, you make good points.
i know wht you mean!! the actual disorder is horrible...especially after you know you're sick but you can't allow yourself to go back into your safe routine.....and ha instead of being really popular or whatever for being thin it's really the opposite you completely isolate yourself from your friends and family, right at the time you need them most. im sure im not providing any shocking revelations but oh my God the whole 'trend' with cutesy bracelets is *hideous*
i have never understood eating dissorders if people think they look overweight they dont eat to look more slim but then they look discustingly thin so in the end they look worse than when they started i really have never understood that?
it actually took a lot of work for me to start eating regularly because my stomach wasn't used to it and i actually got sick after eating sometimes. but now i'm healthy, and every once in a while if i get sad i start to slip back, but i don't let myself. this is why i think pro ana is so sickening.. girls who torture their bodies to be skinny just need to use that effort to eat healthy amounts of the right kinds of foods and exercise.
Fantastic video! 5 stars. I totally agree that 'real' anorexia nervosa is NOT something you 'try' to have. It happens without trying. It certainly did for me. I think the real difference between (e.g.) 'true' anorexia and 'wannarexia' is that true anorexia is an illness from which you cannot readily change - at least without very severe panic and even suicidal thoughts. The fear of eating more and exercising less for me was so great that I thought my only alternative was death....
A therapist told me that I've had ana since I was 3. Some people dont understand & some do. Yes I do want 2 b thin. Yes I fit the symptoms even b4 I became pro ana before I even knew what pro ana was. Ive had ana 4 24 year now. I know Im huge & Ill b huge & I stay home because Im 2 disgusting 4 any1 2 see. I didnt chose 2 have this but I can continue 2 want this. Answer yourself this 1 ? How far along was the internet 24 years ago? She should know what shes talking about b4 she says anything.
I don't take anyone that uses the word "ana" when they're talking about anorexia seriously, sorry.
I don't think you really listened to what I was saying. There were not obsessive groups of girls trying to catch eating disorders throught online communities 24 years ago, and I never said there were, so I don't understand what you're getting at.
There's a difference between having an ED and not being pro-recovery, and being a pro-ana moron. I'm talking about the pro-ana morons.
okay so i get what your saying and all and its great about the pro ana shit, but the thinspo...the REAL girl thinspo, basically other friends with ed's are for people like me with reall ed's to help us not feel alone. its conforting for us to see that there other girls out there who are like them. the pro ana thinspo is alot different though. anywayssss...
You hit the nail on the head..."People DO NOT understand what an eating disorder really is." Pro-Ana people are "sick", but not in the same way. Trying to eat...ya. Sorry, I don't need photo's to motivate me.
You are sooo right! Pro ana girls so need to look at this. Real eating disorders, it's in the brain and they never want to eat. Pro ana want to eat so they stare at skinny girls until they don't want to eat. Wanting anorexia is like wanting cancer.
In my opinion, no. I definitely understand where you're coming from, seeing as you say you're bulimic. I think bulimia and anorexia are one in the same, they just manifest themselves in different way, so I think it's almost a natural envy to have.
As long as you're not praying to ~*~goddess ana~*~, I wouldn't personally consider you a Wannarexic.
I think it's quite sad (not to mention misguided!) that a lot of young girls actually think anorexia is a lifestyle and not a disorder because like you say, it's really disrespectful and horrible for the people who actually have eating disorders. Anyway sorry for writing such a long message and I hope that made some sense!
(part 7) But hey you know what, if you still want to be "Ana" (and this is NOT directed at those people who already are but are just ambivalent about recovery, it's for the "wannarexics") then fine, knock yourself out...you're either completely in denial, a bloody idiot or both!
(Part 6)...and I have permanent muscle damage, which makes my muscles spasm and contract in ways they're not supposed to; leaving me with chronic pain and oftentimes difficulty with basic movement (like walking or getting up from a seated position). And believe me I consider myself one of the LUCKY ones, because I KNOW there are people out there who have FAR worse permanent health issues because of their Eating Disorders than I do.
(part 5) Not to mention some of the PERMANENT damage that can happen to you, thanks to "Ana". My digestive system no longer works properly...I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Delayed Gastric Emptying which causes colic pain, bloating, embarassing wind problems, alternating constipation/diarrhea, nausea and lethargy. As I mentioned before I have lost some of my teeth and now wear a partial denture (teeth don't grow back)...
(part 4)...(hey at one point my eyebrows started falling out, now THAT was a good look..NOT!), having your skin dry and crack and peel and break out in horrid sores and rashes, being covered in bruises, having your arms and legs looking all mottled and purple like your dead, turning a horrid shade of yellow because your liver starts to shut down, being dizzy and sick and cold and miserable and in pain almost all the damn time! Oh yeah Anorexia Nervosa makes you SOOOO beautiful *sarcasm*
(part 3) And for any "Wannarexics" who might be reading this and think that not eating and "going Ana" will make them "thin and beautiful". I've got news for you, it might make you thin, but Anorexia AINT gonna you beautiful...not by a LONG shot!. Unless of course you consider losing some of your teeth and having to wear a partial denture (happened to me) beautiful, or having your hair fall out in handfuls to the point where you have bald patches showing through on your scalp...
(part 2)Being Anorexic does not make you "strong" or "powerful" or "insert whatever other Pro Ana lie here". Not eating for me does not take any strength or willpower whatsoever, I have Anorexia Nervosa it's just what I do, it's easy for me, it's part of my illness. What does take strength is pushing past the disease and actually eating. Eating 3 meals a day for me takes WAY more strength than starving myself.
I couldn't agree with you more! I have struggled with Anorexia Nervosa and an Eating Disorder in general for almost 28 years (since the age of 8). I do NOT need "thinspo" and "triggers" to make me not want to eat. As a matter of fact I DO want to eat, my illness just makes it very difficult for me to do so without a LOT of mental effort on my part.
I'm totally w/ you on the whole pro-ana thing being absolutely disgusting, but I disagree with with assuming that people with "eating disorders" (a broad term) don't want to eat all the time. plus, there are people w/ EDs who look healthy, are at average weights, etc. It doesn't make them any less disordered. I can understand where you're coming from, but I think you made a few too many generalizations and assumptions and disregarded diagnostic criteria for EDs.
When I said the "don't want to eat all the time" thing I thought it was inferred that I was talking about anorexia, because I was.
I know that people with EDs come in all shapes and sizes. I never said that everyone with an eating disorder was skinny, but the fact is that diagnostically, people with anorexia have a BMI of <17.5, and I think most people would agree that that is thin, which is what I meant when I said whatever it was about "healthy/average" girls not actually being anorexic.
Also, I'd like to know what you mean when you say that I "disregarded" the diagnostic criteria for EDs. I am very aware of the diagnostic criteria for eating disorders, which is part of the reason I made this; I don't think it's right for girls that do not meet the criteria for anorexia nervosa to pretend they're OMG ANA~*~.
