Jake Shields is a great fighter. Lots of respect for the guy. He has some of the best Jujitsu in the UFC. However, on his feet is where he needs the most work by far. I think the one thing he needs to figure out is that he can't submit everyone.
Ellenberger is an has been legit, 25 w's! However Shields faced better competition and I think he was fine, head was down going for TD when he grabbed the official. His hand was up deflecting some of the punches to side of head. Not to forecast what could have happened, but afterward he seemed well aware and with it. I say it was a premature stoppage, he has shown he can come back. If he was in more trouble then he would have let go of the leg and went to his back as he did against hendo/daily
Paul Daley's grappling REALLY SUCKS and that's why he loses his fights. Just look at 3:32 he rolls in the wrong fucking direction to get out of the armbar -_-

Shields did fight a great fight against GSP, busted his septum, (all the blood from his nose) a cut lip and a swollen eye. While he looked fresh fresh and ready for five more rounds.
Jake Shields controlled Hendo most of that fight (even without ground elbows allowed in SF at the time). Henderson has been on a tear taking the LHW title from Calavante...now beating Fedor - so thats a big feather in Jakes cap. I know MMA math doesnt always work out, but basically a welter-mid weight beat some heavyweights. Also he beat Condit and Okami who are the next title contenders. Veggies do a body good! Hope Shields taps out that punk Fake Ellenburger - although he is really solid too

I have never seen as many gsp critics b4 the shields fight. Yes he may have played it safe but he was also facing (whom he felt) was his toughest fight date & was arguably so. C'mon give gsp a break he won the fight against Jake Shields who was on a 14-16 fight winstreak (not sure) & was intelligent enough to know his place & respect Shields ground game. Now, what made him look bad may have been the fact that Jake closed his eye on the stand-up. It's not bcuz he played it safe.

This was a one sided fight, Paul has beautiful boxing and Shields said so, but Shields landed four times as many strikes before finishing the fight. Frank doesn't like Jake as is well known and he says," ahh I give the first round to Shields"
Daley spent almost the whole round on his back eating punches as shields moved from side mount to full mount and back trying to lock a submission on him.
Shields looked pretty good against GSP too, winning two rounds with damage & aggression & looked fresh
I noticed how Jake Shields would "willingly" drop to the floor to grap Daley's ankles, when daley would commit to throwing a combination. GSP took Shields down once with 20 seconds in the round, Jake pounded his ribs while shifting his hips for a sweep, the bell. George followed him down later, Jake took his leg & GSP was forced to fight his way out.

Paul is incredible standing up using his Muay Thai, but MMA is all-rules fighting, with techniques and methods from almost every major martial art allowed. If Paul lost by submission, it's clearly because he was lacking in some other area of fighting.

@tanglestrangle The only reason that Jake took 2 rounds from GSP ( In 2 judges cards... the other judge scored GSP winning them all anyway) was because Jake poked GSP in the eye with his thumb and he couldnt see out of that eye for the rest of the fight. Not that he did it intentionally but thats the only reason y that fight became close at the end. I think Jake Shields was his best challenege but to say he made GSP look "bad" doesnt make sense. Maybe beatable would be more suitable.

Shields only won two rounds (48-47) but St Pierre lost more than rounds, he won't go down as the best of all time fighting like that.

Ellenberger is an has been legit, 25 w's! However Shields faced better competition and I think he was fine, head was down going for TD when he grabbed the official. His hand was up deflecting some of the punches to side of head. Not to forecast what could have happened, but afterward he seemed well aware and with it. I say it was a premature stoppage, he has shown he can come back. If he was in more trouble then he would have let go of the leg and went to his back as he did against hendo/daily

Henderson has been on a tear taking the LHW title from Calavante...now beating Fedor - so thats a big feather in Jakes cap. I know MMA math doesnt always work out, but basically a welter-mid weight beat some heavyweights. Also he beat Condit and Okami who are the next title contenders. Veggies do a body good! Hope Shields taps out that punk Fake Ellenburger - although he is really solid too

I have never seen as many gsp critics b4 the shields fight. Yes he may have played it safe but he was also facing (whom he felt) was his toughest fight date & was arguably so. C'mon give gsp a break he won the fight against Jake Shields who was on a 14-16 fight winstreak (not sure) & was intelligent enough to know his place & respect Shields ground game. This was a one sided fight, Paul has beautiful boxing and Shields said so, but Shields landed four times as many strikes before finishing the fight. Frank doesn't like Jake as is well known and he says," ahh I give the first round to Shields"
Daley spent almost the whole round on his back eating punches as shields moved from side mount to full mount and back trying to lock a submission on him.
Shields looked pretty good against GSP too, winning two rounds with damage & aggression & looked fresh

@removalmitt GSP fought overly safe & went from counter puncher the back up artist, his trainer said after the fight. "It was our game plan to stay as far away from Jake as possible in order to avoid the take down"
GSP took Shields down once with 20 seconds in the round, Jake pounded his ribs while shifting his hips for a sweep, the bell. George followed him down later, Jake took his leg & GSP was forced to fight his way out.
No one expected 48-47 & GSP taking all the damage in stand up.

Paul is incredible standing up using his Muay Thai, but MMA is all-rules fighting, with techniques and methods from almost every major martial art allowed. If Paul lost by submission, it's clearly because he was lacking in some other area of fighting.

@tanglestrangle The only reason that Jake took 2 rounds from GSP ( In 2 judges cards... the other judge scored GSP winning them all anyway) was because Jake poked GSP in the eye with his thumb and he couldnt see out of that eye for the rest of the fight. Not that he did it intentionally but thats the only reason y that fight became close at the end. I think Jake Shields was his best challenege but to say he made GSP look "bad" doesnt make sense. Maybe beatable would be more suitable.

Shields looked good against St Pierre, he banged him up & left him blooded, bruised & looking human.
Georges trainer said it was their game plan to stay away from Jake to avoid the being taken down. This left Shields as the aggressor and GSP looked afraid to engage. Smart to avoid Shields, but on the run is no way for a champion to fight .
Shields only won two rounds (48-47) but St Pierre lost more than rounds, he won't go down as the best of all time fighting like that.
